Sweet Tentacles

Rate this book
When you are running for your life, hopping from one galaxy to another, the last thing you want is to become a mail order bride.

Not me though.

Because why save yourself like a normal human when you can double your chance of getting killed by mating with the universe’s most notorious alien tentacle monster?

Yeah… I don’t make the best life decisions out here…

Except the “tentacle monster” turns out to be the opposite of what I think he is. He vows to protect me. He cuddles me to sleep. He takes such good care of me. And did I mention lots of cuddles?

My heart is melting for this sweet alien, but my brain warns me not to fall.

Not even if he cooks me the most delicious Earth food you could find in all the star sectors. *chomping*

There’s no time for love. A dark force is hunting me down, and if I’m not careful, I’ll not only blow my cover as mail order bride, but also endanger us all.

This book was just a miss for me. I
It was neither heavy in smutt nor in plot - so lack of both worlds 🥲🥲 imo - it was just meh, I kept hoping for a bit more plot developments, a twist or some very naughty scene the main characters keep thinking about…. But that just didn’t happen (medium steam, little actual sexy time some dirty thoughts, which left me pining for more)

I think the part I enjoyed most was actually the writing! It’s good, had a nice flow and I liked the chapter’s/book structure! so if you’re not too interested in a plot heavy book or looking for some hot 🥵 smutt, but do love a universally feared monster who’s actually a cute cuddley horny monster looking for someone to love - and a mc on the run but falling in love… then do give this book a go!!

And I do wanna say that there was some thought out into the plot! It’s not “empty” we have a mail order bride on the run -> who is she running from? will they find out she’s just on the run and not looking to mate for life? etc etc but also some smoll surprises which give the characters more personality! But all together it just wasn’t what I was hoping for when I picked it up. It didn’t feel complete.

I’m also sad because it DID have some great potential! What it lacked in plot developments/depth mentioned above could definitely have been evened out by great character development of the main characters orrrr the interesting cute and funny side characters we were introduced to!! So I do hope this book gets a sequel where we see more of those side characters 🫶🏼 I will be reading those for sure!

Fluffy arranged marriage

Both of these main characters were so afraid of hurting the other person 24/7. Sometimes it got a bit obnoxious, but it fit the background for both characters. Tessa had trauma coming out of her ears and he had an inhibitor that caused issues when he was upset. The title ended up being very appropriate.

Spice: 3.5/5

Triggers: violence, gore, murder

Why give him tentacles if he isn't even going to use them? 😒

Tessa (h) is fleeing for her life and signs up to be an alien mail order bride for one of the most feared aliens in the universe, a tentacled Ohd-kasach. She’s very quickly matched to Nem (H), a farmer who desperately wants a mate and family. Tessa finds that Nem is nothing like she thought he’d be – he only wants to care, cook and cuddle. She only intends to stay for the trial period and then be on her way, so she forces herself to put the brakes on her growing feelings for him. Lovely romance with a cinnamon roll alien who only wants to protect and care for the mate he’s dreamed of. Be careful what you stroke!

What’s a girl to do when you have a stalker that wants to kill you because you don’t want him and is everywhere you go even in your dreams well you go to a dating agency. Tessa is a human that is a dancer of Klinkin that performed under the name Butterfly with the Light Bugs Troupe and sometimes she danced with Keaton or stage name Firefly until he was killed by her stalker a Drelye alien who’s job is as a assassin and now she is on the run but always seem to find her which is why she is at a dating agency heading off earth to stay safe until after the trial and she knows exactly where she wants to go where he can never find her and she will be safe Euxik Four but not everyone is pleased with her choice because the Ohd-Kasache are a very dangerous Aliens but now with implants they can no longer hurt anybody. Nem is a Ohd-Kasache alien who are feared in the universe because of there ancestors who now along with his brothers Tar,Jun, Sol work and own a large plot of ocean and land to farm there Licon or like seaweed product who joined the dating agency to find mates and when Nem is matched everyone is so happy for him and are now waiting for her to arrive. Nem studied everything about Earth females and brought clothing and food and bedding for her and he hopes she likes it. When they meet for the first time Tessa is not sure what to make of Nem but he is sweet and gentle and wants to make her happy. When they arrive at his home she is shocked by ever he has done for her and when he calls her My Tessa she feels it’s wierd but heart warming but she needs to be careful because she is not staying after the 30days are up. When guest arrive there daughter posted a holo vid of Tessa and Nem dancing and it goes viral and now Drelye knows where she is and now she must flee. How does it all work out does the assassin find Tessa and if so can Nem keep her safe and will she want to stay with the man she has fallen in love with or not.

I have so many problems with this book I don’t even know where to begin.

First we start with Tessa. To me, it seems very unclear whether she is a criminal or hiding from someone. She mentions court. It takes too long to figure out that she is not a criminal and actually is hiding from a stalker. I thought this was a weird “I was forced to commit a crime out of desperation or someone making me do it and something traumatized me during it” kinda thing. So maybe I just didn’t interpret it right. Maybe that part is on me.

The part that really gets me though is how much apprehension Tessa has with Nem. She doesn’t share much about her life back at home, so for all we know she doesn’t have anyone she’s super attached to to go back to. So it makes her being hesitant annoying at the least.

Then she kinda switches her motive that she thinks that Nem can’t defend himself against the spider guy.

Essentially Tessa is just playing with Nem’s heart because she thinks he can’t defend himself, even though it’s emphasized very heavily that Nem’s species is insanely dangerous, scary, and requires an inhibitor to stop angry/negative/homicidal thoughts. I don’t recall the spider dude having to have an inhibitor? Sure they’re scary and they kill too, but not so bad that they’re legally obligated to be emotionally stunted.

Idk man, Tessa really rubbed me the wrong way. Why did it take until 84% for her to be transparent with him? It feels so gross. I feel bad for her situation but crushing sweet little Nem like that makes me not like her even more. How hard is it to be candid with him? Makes her very unlikable.

But you may say “you wouldn’t know cuz you’ve never been in the situation!”. Well, surprise surprise, I have dealt with something similar, and never once did it cross my mind to manipulate someone like that. She can see how much he wants a partner, how much he unconditionally loves her, and she knows how powerful his species is. Maybe the dangerousness of the spider guy wasn’t emphasized enough, but that is not on me.

Idk Tessa motivations really rubbed me the wrong way. I did not like her at all. I felt so bad for Nem the whole time and every time Tessa led him on it was another stab to my heart because Nem is precious. Just be transparent with him. It’s not hard. Why do you have to hide from him? It’s just simple communication, and instead you’re stomping on his lil squidy heart every time you lead him on.

I’ll say it: Nem deserved better.

Even though the ending was a good ending I can’t help but be crushed by this. What other things will she be “too scared” to tell Nem about? What else is she okay with lying about? Idk man I really do not like her at all. The way she went about doing this was really scummy.

So another thing I hated. I really hate when the characters hobbies are flaunted in your face because it feel like a poor attempt to make the character appear more special than they are. Again, this is a me thing. There was no allusion to the dancing before the scene on the beach, so it felt very jarring. Where did this dancing thing come from? Idk cuz it wasn’t really mentioned earlier.

So anyway, that bugged me. In addition to the whole iPad thing and dancing and social medias thing. It felt very TikTok-y and it kinda gave me the ick. I don’t want to think about TikTok dances and social media when reading. This was too on the nose and felt really weird.

Also, spicy scenes weren’t incredible, wish there was more to them, but Tessa was awful so maybe that was part of the problem. Like I said, Nem deserved better.

The climax was very short and quick and I think it could’ve benefitted from being longer.

And another thing. I resonate with Tessa’s paranoia about the video being posted, I get it. But at least include some sort of comment on the video, or else it feels like Tessa is overreacting. Because as far as we, the reader knows, she is. She even mentioned that she could be overreacting, so why not solidify that she’s not?

Another thing that makes the problem feel very disingenuous, she thinks that hiding for ONE MONTH is gonna drive away a stalker that murdered her friend. Yeah, okay. If you think so. Stalkers don’t just give up like that.

I could go into more detail about all the above things but I think everyone get the gist. This book was a huge let down. I had high hopes, because I’m a huge tentacle fan and I’m a little sore about the lack of tentacles in monster romance novels, so when something with, at it’s core, has an interesting concept and is such a let down like this, it hurts.

On the bright side Nem was adorable and his brothers were equally as entertaining. I enjoyed them, at least. Can we get more Nem and his brothers please? I’d read that if Tessa wasn’t in it.

sweet but…

Three stars for quite a few reasons. Review is vague and yet could be considered spoilers..

I don’t love or even like Tessa. She constantly says she knows she is hurting poor Nem, but that she is doing it to keep him from pain, to keep him safe, when his race is known for being deadly… she is just using him and I have no idea how she can even believe that a stalker who has chased her around the entire galaxy for three months will just give up looking for her after thirty days of being hidden.

Predictable, not realistic, and constantly repeating quite a few things.

Nem… you can’t help but feel sorry for the sweet guy and his species as a whole. The only redeeming thing about the story, honestly. And how can a galactic federation condone complete genocide if a male only species by not doing everything in their power to help relations between them and other female species? It is the whole reason for the ancestor’s behavior… to breed…

I absolutely loved this book! It was a such a sweet romance. Great world building and wonderful characters. Tessa was being stalked and terrorized by a fearsome Drelye. Desperate to escape, she signed up to be a bride in an alien mating program- for the most dangerous alien species to ever exist: the Ohd-kasaches who conquered whole planets and were practically invincible. The Federation finally fought back with a poisonous gas until they surrendered and signed a treaty. If she chose one of them for a mate, the Drelye surely wouldn't pursue her. And she had a month to back out. I completely fell in love with Nem. He may have looked frightening and very alien at first, but he was so sweet and kind and thoughtful. I have never wanted a couple's happy ending so quickly! I wish this book were longer! And I desperately hope for a sequel! 5 stars.

★ “The Drelye wouldn’t want to mess with me.” ★

—>>> Review Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars - A desperate application to be a bride in the intergalactic Euxik Four Mating Program positively matches Tessa to Nem, an Ohd-kasach, now rendered an all-male race, of which the previous generation of warriors were responsible for wreaking takeover havoc in the universe until they were defeated. They are currently dying out, isolated in a distant fringe sector, still feared by most. But if it means taking on a male of this species as a mate in order to stay safe, then Tessa has no choice - a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do. Great world-building, and hopefully, we will read Mem’s brothers’ stories as well sometime. Sweet and sexy sci-fi read!

I am reminded of the saying about being harmless as not the same as being deadly and choosing not to harm.

This book has some fun “7 Brides” vibes.

No arms, no hands… all tentacles. Why sperm and eggs? Self fertile? No details.

Also, gills? How he breaths on land is not identified and it bothered me.

Tessa wants to run and hide from her stalker. She joins a matchmaking service and picks the most dangerous and feared alien species she can think of. When she finally meets Nem; he's a big cinnamon roll and she hopes her stalker doesn't find them.
Pretty sweet and steamy
The tentacle monster (Nem) shown on the cover image should be obsidian and not purple.

Excellent

I wasn’t sure what this book would be like but I absolutely loved it ❤️. Both of the main characters were easily likable and relatable. Their characters as people were enticing as well. They had integrity, they were fun, surprising and exciting. I really enjoyed this read and will be looking for more books by this author.

Just a bit different.
The romance was definitely there. The hero, Nem was such a sweet and caring male. Tessa is a heroine on the run from a stalker. Even though she only plans to use the mail-order bride program as her latest hiding place, love finds her.

The one thing I question is how Nem has a sense of family on a planet of all males. His greatest wish is to have a family and yet they have no females and previously always took females to breed without concern for the females other than their breeding capacity. This was a passing concern though.
