I had read the second half of this series (“Sound Off!”) and it was fine, but now that I’ve read the complete tales it’s so much more fun.
The first arc is way better than “Sound Off!” And overall it’s really enjoyable. “Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” might be my favorite animated iteration of the Turtles so this is a good zany companion piece.
I was given this book by the publisher, IDW, in exchange for an honest review. I can't say that I was really a fan of this graphic novel. I was a big TMNT fan as a kid (as most people of my age are), and this just didn't feel like the classing TMNT to me. I am sure that is the point, to try to bring the ninja turtles to a new generation, but it clearly was not for me. I really hated the new designs for the turtles. I appreciated that they had more individuality than they did in the original comics, but they were just UGLY. Raphael looks like a straight up monster, which might be scary to some little ones. I'm glad that they left one turtle, Mikey, mostly alone design wise. I don't know if there is a cartoon version of this iteration of the ninja turtles, but it felt like a brightly colored, but ugly episodic Saturday morning cartoon.
This comic is based on the Nickelodeon series Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It is a compilation of the first five comics previously released and includes the three-part series Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Sound Off. The graphics are colorful and distinct. The writing is similar to that found on the tv series including the same amusing sense of humor. The adventures were true to the characters and fun to read. If you like the Rise series, you will definitely enjoy reading this compilation.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher IDW Publishing, for the temporary digital ARC that I read and gave my honest opinion of.
My taste is eclectic, but nobody can stop me. Mwuahahaha! Ahem. I've been doing graphic novel and web comic research since I've started collaborating with a friend and writing my own. This volume was a delightful addition, though it feels too isolated to stand as part of the series. Though lets be honest, most of Rise feels that way! Can someone please tell me what is going on!? Is this the start of my dive back into superhero comics? Maaaaybeee...!
This is a companion comic to the animated tv series Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, so if you have NOT watched it, this is probably not for you!!
That being said, this was such a fun series of short stories that I very much enjoyed! Nothing beats the tv show itself, but I will take any ROTTMNT content. Would love to see more comics like this!
It was fun to revisit this version of the fellas, and the book looks great. Bottom line, I don’t think the distinct type of humor from the show transplant well to comic book format. It loses something in the process.
Coming off of reading the Last Ronin and the Lost Years, I wanted to stay in the TMNT realm and knock out a few short stories to round out my reading year and this was just alright. Maybe if I had read this first before the Ronin series I'd have liked it more. Who knows.
Meh. As a “complete adventures” book this doesn’t work for me. Lots of holes in the story. I’ve never watched the show, so I was a bit lost at points. It was still fun though, and the art is good.
Mostly a re-read for me, but I'm glad that all the comics are collected in one edition and though I wish there was more, I'm glad it's out for anyone to enjoy.
A great collection of the comics that were already published but they promised a new comic "Hidden City" and checked every page, compared the books to this and there is no new comic. I love my turtle boys, the way they are all different species instead of one unspecified species, the different more complex personalities they give them, such Raph being more than an angry hothead, and Leo not being a worrywort overachiever. I haven't even gotten to see all of Season 2 before Nick paused it, and was really looking forward to this one last little bit more. Please, the new comic? What happened? I'm tired of getting gyped by Nick.
