The Last Neanderthal Clan: Raka of the Last Neanderthal Clan
For millennia, the Neanderthals dominated northern Europe's landscape, hunting, gathering and breeding. However, the arrival of the Cro-Magnon tribes presented the Neanderthals with a new and more powerful opponent – and their very survival was in jeopardy. The struggle for survival is reimagined in the fast-paced and fascinating historical novel The Last Neanderthal Clan.
Charlie Boring and his extensive knowledge and passion for prehistoric civilization will transport readers back to the cold climate of the Pleistocene period to witness the struggle for survival of the Last Neanderthal Clan.
The Neanderthals were an ancient human subspecies that lived in Eurasia and were thought to become extinct 40,000 years ago. While the exact cause of their demise is still debated, demographic factors, such as small population size, inbreeding and random mutations contributed to their extinction.
During this period the globe began to warm and glaciers began to melt after a long era of extreme cold tens of thousands of years ago. Rivers flood and mountain valleys are free from ice and Clans could travel to previously unknown locations. These two groups, Cro-Magnon, also known as northern clans, and Neanderthal, also known as southern clans, meet throughout the exploration. With a lengthy history of hunting and destroying other clans, the Nord Clan, a Cro-Magnon clan, is the most powerful clan. Carni, the Nord Clan's head, impregnates a female Neanderthal and abandons the mother and child. Carni leads the Nord Clan on a slave hunt for Neanderthals in the warmer southern lands. Raka, a Neanderthal/Cro-Magnon descendant, rises to lead the remnants of his Neanderthal tribe on a search for fresh hunting grounds and safety from the northern clans. Raka and his Clan must fight the cave bear, the woolly mammoth, the cave lion and the changing environment to ensure their survival.

believable characters
The story was written in a very easy to read way and the names for the animals and people were inventive and fun. Was distressed by the number of grammatical, spelling and punctuation errors in this book. It probably doesn’t matter to a lot of people but I found it very distracting.

As unique a "historical fiction" work that you'll ever read. Charlie Boring's, "The Last Neanderthal Clan" soundly reflect's the authors love and knowledge of prehistoric times. Right from the start, Boring informs the readers about the long lost period of time, and does it in a non-pedantic, easy to understand manner. Sets the stage in a brilliant way. Many historical fiction authors, painfully explain the background, overwhelming the reader, while others simply plunge in, leaving readers in the dark to figure out the context of what they're reading. Some may say that the book is overly mundane and repetitious, but I found the daily struggle for survival very interesting, as well as remarkably insightful for what daily life must have been for a Neanderthal clan living in this prehistoric era.
And yet, Boring manages to weave quite an interesting tale of love, family, tribal warfare and drama, all the while teaching us about what life must have been like. (Tribal warfare, hate and genocide seem all too relevant to our current world.) All in all, a pretty formidable accomplishment-teaching while entertaining us. I actually became quite engrossed with the characters, and at times, the novel actually turned into quite the page turner.
The one fault I have, and it's not a minor one, is the editing. It really needed to be tightened up. Some phrases are repetitive, words are misused and grammar isn't up to what it should be. All that being said, I noticed that this book has been translated into English,(although the author is from Texas???) and perhaps, some things were literally, "lost in translation." Nevertheless, an educating and entertaining read.

This novel is set in prehistoric times, and it intrigued me, as I haven't read many historical novels from this sort of time period.
The author's storytelling brought the characters to life, and after a while, I felt as though I, as the reader, was sort of observing the lives of Carni, Kardi and all of the other characters, from a distance. I found the storytelling simple but engaging, and it was an interesting read.

The Last Neanderthal Clan: Raka of the Last Neanderthal Clan is a historical novel and it focuses on the neanderdal culture and environment.
It is a very interesting read and allows the reader to learn a little bit more about the past, seeming very well-researched.
The characcters were also easy to follow making us resonate with their struggles and challenges.

This is a prehistoric time novel.
The war between a tribe and a new powerful one.
The author makes very believable characters.
Overall the book is good.
The narrative style of the book is written in daily logs.
So that we can see a lot of activities. Which is not necessary to the story but it's there to prove the point.

This is kinda daily log book. The book takes long back when there was an unnecessary fights between people. Here this is a story of a fight between two cultures, a tribe and a new dominating one. Good read but since it book is a daily log, little painful to go through repetative narrations. Overall good read.

It was a daily log. Skipped a lot of pages. The same daily chores were repeated. If you're old enough to remember the "See Dick, See Jane" books, the story line reminded me of them. I always have to finish a book and I couldn't wait for this one to be done and deleted.

Very interesting read. I loved the story and really hope there comes another book from this writer in this series. The writer obviously did thorough research into the Neanderthal's and it shows. Although it is not as much a history book as a very good novell!
Must read for everyone interested in the genre!
