Dungeon Synth: The Rebirth of the Legend

Rate this book
The first book on this unique and fascinating genre of music (excluding the Mortiis book, also available in the store), this is an exploration of this unique and fascinating music form and culture. Originally birthed, almost by accident, from the black metal genre in the 1990s, dungeon synth has not not only returned, but exploded, in recent years, with a legion of new musicians picking up the torch. Featuring detailed interviews with many of the key figures, the book explores what separates dungeon synth from other forms of dark ambient, as well as its past, present and possible future.

Very good oversight of the Dungeon Synth genre. The author has a very clear enthusiasm for the subject, and this gives the book a lot of spirit.

The illustrations and the artwork provided are beautiful, as is the presentation as a whole.

I like how the interviews cover a great spectrum of the subject, and the vibe is friendly throughout.

Credit to the author for interviewing an artist, as the artwork is a key factor in the cult status of Dungeon Synth. It was also great to read some insight from a record label owner.

What really comes through is the passion and enthusiasm for this style of music.

A good read for those curious about the origins of Dungeon synth.

Oh wow. Since reading this book I have been researching bands, I have found so many awesome sounds and bands! This is a true gem of a book! Ruslan has done a fantastic job tracking down the protagonists. Of course I was happy about the lengthy interview with håvard, but I wasn't expecting such a great mass of music I can discover! Wonderful. Ruslans questions are interesting and witty. He creates a great atmosphere. The accompanying pictures and illustrations make this also a feast for the eyes and a great display of art. Loved this so much, can't wait to explore more in the dungeon 🖤

A welcome, useful and enjoyable little text on this (re-)emerging genre. I was surprised not to see Secret Stairways mentioned at the end given his impact, but I'm sure everyone thinks someone was missed out in genre overviews.

Also, really sad to think how the war has come between guys like Galdur and Ruslan since these interviews were made.

This collection of short and interesting interviews is highly recommended to Dungeon Synth fans!
It can also be a good way to discover this genre if you like ambient music with a strong heroic fantasy vibe.

A very DIY book about a very DIY genre. If you are interested in the genre, this is interesting, but I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone else.
