I had the opportunity to be an ARC Reader for this book so thank you Trish!

I got hooked on her books when the Ichor series was on Wattpad! So I knew when I saw a new series I had to read it.

I will warn you this book isn't a hero falling for the villain type rather both Eilidth and Vyktor are villains and all the other characters in this book. This book has enemies to lovers, arranged royal marriage, and supernatural beings vs humans. This is the first book in the series so it does have quite an ending and I can't wait to read the next book!

Please check the trigger warnings at the beginning of the book because it does have some dark stuff some readers might not be comfortable with!

I received an ARC of this book, and I’m so glad that I did! This book has all of my favorite things in it: steamy spice, supernaturals, and royalty! The badass Phoenix warrior Princess gives major Tori Vega vibes (iykyk) and the hunky, human Prince is equal parts bloodthirsty and horny. They are both unapologetically immoral and don’t pretend to be heroes. This book is full of villains, so steer clear if you are looking for golden retriever boys or damsels in distress. You will find none of that here! What you will find is dark romance, a slow burn romance, and enemies to lovers.

I was given the chance to have an ARC of this book and thoroughly enjoyed the read! This was a very quick read, and I don’t mean that in a bad way, I simply mean it wasn’t clouded with word fillers and it was also very entertaining. The story itself is interesting simply because of the fact that the characters this story follows are all what most would consider on the villainous side of things. From the very beginning it’s clear how much hatred and rage these characters have for one another. There are some more classic tropes in it as well, but overall I think it was well done and different enough to be intriguing. Please check all trigger warnings before reading!

Things I loved:

- I loved the fact that the characters were more on the dark and twisty side of things instead of the usual/classic hero vs villain kind of stories.

- The shift in perspectives done throughout the book gave depth to the characters and we’re easy enough to follow that you weren’t lost wondering whose perspective was whose as you read.

- The fantasy element and world building done in the book. There is still so much to be explored, but in the short span of one book you learn a good deal about the world and it’s pertinent history.

- I love the queer representation in this book! It may not have been a major focus, but the moments weren’t lost on me as they discussed queer/queer coded characters. Gweneth with her choice of pants rather than a dress and her short hair style noted as being more manly. Riz discussing his potential trans identity with Eilidh. Let’s not forget the body positivity with Eilidh’s character as she described her body when in the bedroom with Vyktor! This is the kind of representation, no matter how small, that I love to see in books!

Things I didn’t love:

- I feel like the whole book was such a big build up to this fight with Crayton but it ended just as they set off. I’m aware this is just the first in the series so the story will continue on, but I guess I just wanted more from the ending.

- It felt like we didn’t get to explore a lot into what exactly the phoenixes are/are capable of. We got a taste at the end when Eilidh finally gets her revenge on Yannis, but I know there’s more depth to her power that I’m dying to see unleashed.

- It almost felt like there was so much reference to the rape and torture that Eilidh went through, which I understand is vital to her story and motivations, but it almost felt like too much. At a certain point we understood just how horrid things were for her in the prison and we got to see her get revenge on the ones responsible, but the constant referencing to it seemed almost unnecessary at a point because it didn’t provide to the story as a whole at times. This could very well just be me, and of course each person is different when reading such sensitive topics, but I wanted to be honest with my thoughts

Overall this was a great opportunity I was given with this ARC and I thoroughly enjoyed the read! I can’t wait to see what the rest of the series has to offer!

I received this as an ARC and thank you!

I read this in one sitting. As soon as I read "All my characters are villainous, and none of them are redeemable", this book was speaking to me. I gave it 4 stars because I enjoyed reading it and would read it again, would recommend it, and will continue the series.

The banter between several of the characters is fun and engaging. The story picks up right away and keeps moving at a steady pace throughout. The dynamic between the siblings is toxic, they all know it, and they all act like everything is fine - it'll be fun to see how that works for them.

Riz is the most prominent supporting character and his banter, charm, and attitude are everything! He's my favorite character so far so fingers crossed he stays relevant throughout the series.

FMC and MMC develop an interesting relationship, some of the behavior isn't what you'd expect from MMC at first, but the touch her and unalive vibes are top shelf. (Who doesn't love that personality trait)

It ended on what I would define as a semi-cliff hanger. I'm excited to learn more about the other kingdoms, see the character dynamic continue to develop, and read more of the story.

I would say on a scale of 1-5, spice is a 2.

Firstly, I want to say a big thank you to Trish for letting me read an arc. Also, check your triggers before reading.

My god Trish did it yet again. Every single book I read of hers is just beyond words incredible! Her writing style is so captivating and her ability to create these fantastic characters and storylines is just otherworldly.

Eilidh is such an awesome main character. The way she speaks to Mison cracks me up. Her convo about corn destroyed me with laughter.

Eilidh is hilarious, strong, fun and dangerous. In fact, all the characters are dangerous and exciting. I understand Trish saying no character is redeemable. I absolutely loved that!!

There are a lot of graphic scenes regarding torture, s€x and more. They were so wild. I loved the creativity behind these scenes.

That ending!!! My god I need the next book immediately. It really leaves you needing more.

This is one of those books that I wish I could read again for the first time. One of those books I could see myself rereading again and again. It’s outstanding!!!

I’ve read Trish D.W.‘s Ichor series and I knew this book would be a sharp departure from that and it absolutely was. THE VERSATILITY. I thought this book was incredibly compelling and an absolute page turner. It’s clear that this book is setting the stage for the rest of the series but the world building was done in such a masterful and subtle way that it didn’t feel like those series where the first book is all world building and no plot.

I know all of these characters are villains and irredeemable but oh man did I keep hoping for some redemption. I’m just a sucker I guess. Even though the characters are bad people/ beings, they are so compelling and interesting.

Where the Ichor series lacks spice and steamy scenes, this book has in spades. (I personally don’t like spice as much as most but I know it will absolutely be a crowd pleaser).

I am excited to learn more about this world and maybe what is happening to the parents who made the deal at the beginning of the book???

NOTE: check trigger warnings (they’re, helpfully, listed at the beginning of the book)

I’m so happy to have received an ARC of this book! A true enemies to lovers! I loved everything about this book! Check your trigger warnings our FMC went though some awful things, and our MMC isn’t a morally gray villain he’s a straight up bad guy with a soft spot for her. This book was beautifully written and we love a plump FMC! I seriously cannot wait for the next book!!!! I am so so soooooo glad I was able to read this as an ARC! My first ever and it was an absolute hit! 100/10!

What a ride that was! I need more of this story ASAP. It was captivating at every turn, it left you wanting more, I couldn't put it down.

Eilidh went through some horrific things, no wonder she becomes as ruthless as she is.
Eilidh and Vyktor have some of the best back and fourth I have ever read, plus since they are enemies the hate spice was definitely there!
Also, the body representation was beautifully written in the story, who doesn't love a plus size queen!

I would 100% recommend, especially for my fantasy lovers!

Got an ARC of this book, overall I enjoyed the book. It was a quick read, I did wish it went a little longer than where it stopped. I wish it went a little more in-depth of the previous kingdoms and what they are capable of. I enjoyed the way the beginning was being told like a story so get to present time.

I need to know what Trish puts into her books because whatever it is, I am addicted. Yet another of her series I will obsess over.
This was a very fast-paced story with a feisty & strong FMC that has been through the unimaginable. The chemistry between Eilidh and Vyktor was undeniable and the spice was a nice touch but didn’t at all feel repetitive or drawn out, which I really appreciate.

I cannot wait to see what’s to come.

I was kindly given the opportunity to read an ARC copy of this book, so first I want to say thank you so much for the opportunity!

This book was a solid start to this series. If you’re looking for a book that has dark motives, even darker scenes, characters who are wholeheartedly the villains, and some spicy scenes as well, this one is for you.

It’s nice to see books coming forward that aren’t always moral. We always tend to find books where the good guy gets the girl, the characters do the “right” thing or in some way there’s some light in the end. This one is not it. While there are characters who do the right thing in the end, the right thing in this situation is not necessarily a moral choice either. I love that, it’s a breath of fresh air.

While the spice I would say is not at a 5🌶️ it’s still pretty good!

I think my only complaint about this book is that it could have been a little longer. We pretty much start off no further in the main storyline than we left off. Maybe a cliffhanger ending may have been an option here, or something to just further the main goal of the story a little bit.

But all in all, I think it was well written, Trish’s world building is always great and she paints a very easy picture. I will definitely read the next book in this series!

*I received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.*

I'm going to attempt to leave this spoiler free. Here we go...

Wow! I have read this author's first two books (in another ongoing series) and this is a HUGE departure from those.

1. Check your TWs. I do not have a lot of triggers but could see this being a difficult read for some. There are discussions of sexual assault, death of a child, forced imprisonment, detailed torture/murder, and more ...
- In my opinion, there is enough detail to engage the reader/make them care without being gratuitous. Nothing is mentioned for just shock factor and I think it's done well.

2. This isn't a happy story. Even the "protagonists" are not incredibly redeemable but I did still find myself rooting for them. I connected with the FMC even though, frankly, and through no fault of her own, she's not a "nice" person. There's a reason she is the way that she is but she's still not a true heroine (in the traditional sense). There's nothing compassionate or kind about her. She's pissed and is unapologetic in her pursuit of revenge.

3. The plot, light world building, and supernatural elements are there but this is definitely a character driven book (my favorite).

4. If you do not enjoy themes of feminism, this is not the book for you. To me, that was the underlying theme throughout with all of the characters. This looks like working through SA trauma, ideas of a woman's role, reclaiming their sexuality or identity, and more.

5. Riz is the best character in this book and you'll never convince me otherwise.

6. I knew that this book was shorter for the author but that cliff hanger...

Overall, it's incredibly well-written without feeling the pompous overuse of a thesaurus that I sometimes get with fantasy books. It's interesting and captivating. 188 pages that feel like 50. Super quick read with no filler. If it is on the page, it matters. Highly recommend.

I want more! Both in the sense of anticipation of the rest of the series and in my biggest upset with this book being it’s relatively short length. Reading this on my kindle I was not ready for the word ‘epilogue’ to cross that page, even if it did leave of us with some new information to sweeten the anticipation.

Going back to the beginning now; who doesn't love a book that starts out with trigger warning and a map. Trish states none of her characters to follow are redeemable, villionious the lot of them. The later part I can agree with. Almost all of the characters we meet have a vicious villainous vice; which all of my morally-grey loving girlies can get behind. Un-redeemable however I beg to disagree. Acts which should never be justified when balanced with equally unjustiable ones lead to a world of picking sides.

Speaking of choosing sides, Trish had me doing with in the first few chapters. Her way of introducing this world through a story within a story, without being cheesy, combined with the trickled and jumping person to person narration of initial character interaction had me internally screaming for Mison’s head and picking Eilidh’s as my likely favorite character. These opinions and who’s atrocities you find yourself on the side of, you’ll just have to read for yourself to decide.

As one last ending appreciation I want to shout out the body positive, natural descriptions, and lustful appreciation, of a plump realistic looking women included in this book

I received this book as an ARC reader. I have never read one of Trish's books before, but I can honestly say I will read them all now.

Some readers may definitely want to read the trigger warnings for this book. It has sex, gore, violence, killings, and mentions rape quite a bit. If those topics make you uncomfortable, this might not be the book for you.

I give the spicy scenes a 4/5. Though the scenes are great, I personally like even more description.

Eilidh and Vyktor's dynamic in this story is amazing! I couldn't get enough of their back and forth about how they would kill each other and others. I love that they are both "villains", but do not hide their hatred towards one another.

This was a semi-quick read for me. That's not a bad thing though. My attention span likes to jump around a lot, but Trish's story kept me engaged and wanting to know what else was going to happen.

I do hope there is more moments of friendship between Eilidh with Riz, Imogen, and Alvar.

The only thing I disliked was that there isn't more to read yet. It ends right before they finally go to battle. I cannot wait to read the rest of this series!

Amazing story Trish! Thank you for my ARC copy!

I had the opportunity to receive an ARC of “Crown of the Dying Embers”. This is my honest review.

The book begins with trigger warnings (props to the author for including those) and a prologue. I thoroughly enjoyed the prologue; sometimes these can fall flat for me, but the prologue of this book is very well written and set up in an interesting way.

Crown of the Dying Embers is a fast paced book focused on two characters: Vyktor and Eilidith. One the child of a conquered kingdom, the other the child of the conqueror. This complicates things when they’re forced into an arranged marriage. Despite their agreement, their hate and distrust of each other is evident and radiates off the pages.

I enjoyed the concept of both main characters being villains. The author states at the beginning of the book that the characters are all villains and are “not redeemable”, but I was still slightly disappointed that I didn’t like or connect with either character by the end of the book.

If you’re looking for a quick and easy read with villainous enemies to lovers, this is the book for you!

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

To begin, there are a lot of content warnings, so make sure you're ok with everything before you start. This is a very dark story, and while I didn't think anything was too dark, it can be a lot if you're not expecting it.

The story was a super quick read. The world building is primarily done as a father telling his children a story, which was a really nice way to ease us in without being a dense info dump. The whole book is pretty much setting up the rest of the series, so definitely go into this knowing that we're getting a look into the motivations of the characters and not a whole lot of action.

My favorite part of the story is Mison's death plotting whenever he's bored. When he brings Eilidh into his game and her deaths are a lot more elaborate, it's just hilarious.

Trish D.W is a new author to me, but I will definitely be finishing this series and checking out her other work.

This book was very intriguing to say the least. First off, it's written in 3rd person. Generally, I'm not a huge fan of 3rd person because I feel less connected to the characters. I did feel that way for this book BUT the development of the characters and the story building was good! I liked seeing how the story progressed and you get an introduction to what exactly is going to happen next.

It is the first in the series, and will be published later in March. It's definitely worth the read--you get a mix of spice and humor (honestly laughed out loud a couple of times during some of the scenes)

Fair warning, there is depictions of torture and sexual assault. Please check triggers when you read. The characters themselves are also not happy-go-lucky. This is a dark fantasy about vengeance and paybacks.

Holy smokes!! Trish this book is amazing!! The only reason I put this book down was because I had to work, but other than that I read any chance I could!

The banter, the threats, the characters!!! Ahhh!! Absolute perfection. My favorite characters will have to be Eilidh and Riz.
Riz is the type of person I want in my corner fighting with me and rooting for me!!

I absolutely love how I was able to see inside Vyktors mind as well as Eilidh, you can’t help but like him even when the rest of the family is unlikable lol. I can’t wait to see what happens next because that ending!!!!

If you love anything fantasy…mythical creatures, castles, kings and queens, talks of battle…then you will love this book. We follow Eilidh, a phoenix who has been imprisoned for 10 years by humans that sold their souls to a witch to rule kingdoms. She fights to survive in a world that doesn’t want her but keeps her imprisoned as a show of power.
It was an easy read for a fantasy nerd like myself and I can’t wait to see more of this story!

I had the pleasure of being an arc reader for this, and I was not disappointed! It's a fast read, fast paced, and dark. Please check the triggers. All the characters are morally dark, with the MCs maybe having a touch of gray. There's supernatural beings vs humans, enemies to lovers (complete with hate s*x), marriage alliance, and multiple povs. It's the first in a series, and I'm already excited to see how the story continues!

I received an ARC for this book and I was absolutely SHOCKED while reading. Please check your trigger warnings before continuing, it is not for a faint of heart. I love it though 😍 The FMC has the best back talk and feisty attitude that the MMC loves. This book is all about the enemies to lovers tension, the will they, won’t they in many aspects!

I really enjoyed this one, the only reason its not a 5 star is because its in 3rd person and it took me a while to realize who the main characters were because of it. (that's a me problem)

I had the opportunity to be an ARC reader for this book for my honest opinion.

This is the first book in the series.

There’s not many books that you’ll find where the human beats the supernatural but in the beginning that’s precisely what happens. Leaving one supernatural a captive and them her villains. Though one can only be a captive so long before they become a villain themselves, set on revenge.

She is the Phoenix Queen and he the human Prince. They need her, To save their land that’s on the verge of war. She needs him to be freed. Together they will strike a deal. A royal marriage of distrust and hate.

They will become temporarily allied until they no longer serve each others needs, and then the real battle begins.

With an ending like this one I’m Ecstatic to read the next!!

Another fantastic ARC that Trish DW sent to me! Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to review your work, it’s always such a fun time!

This book was one of the most unique fantasy stories I’ve ever read. I had such an awesome time getting to know the characters and the world. The only thing I wish is that it was longer so I had more time in the universe!! This just proves that Trish can do YA and Adult fantasy!! Cannot wait for the next book in the series!

This book is full of villains and none of them are redeemable. Despite his love for killing, I loved Vyktor. He is such book boyfriend material, even when he is threatening his Phoenix with killing her. I loved how this whole book was a transformation for the FMC. She died in the prisons and was reborn in her flames as a vengeful beautiful woman ready for war and survival. That ending has me so ready for book 2.

This book was such an easy, comfortable, mildly spicy book and i was not expecting any of it. I love going into arcs knowing almost nothing about the book so that I can have a real organic experience. I am dying to know what happens next. I wish the book was longer, but i loved the content. A really unique story that draws you in and really makes you feel what the characters are feeling. The epilogue made me even more hungry for the series.

I read this book as an arc and loved it from start to finish! Im completely blown away by the fact that it only took Trish 90 days to right this work of art! It is a little on the shorter side, but the writing quality was not affected at all by how quick it was written! The world building, characters, and plot were just so beautifully done that I just couldn't get enough! I will definitely be impatiently waiting for the next book to continue reading about Vyktor and Eilidh, as well as, (without giving any spoilers) what happens in their world next!
