Rate this book
Have you ever wished you could be in two places at once?

Gia’s second trip into the fantasy portal of Literatia involves the murder of Dr. Manette, a key character from the classic book, A TALE OF TWO CITIES, by Charles Dickens. Gia’s goal is to untangle the knotted plot of the original novel and get herself and her partner, Matthew, back home. But her mission becomes even more complicated and critical when her mentor Cooper falls ill back in the real world.

Will old friends be able to provide the help Gia so desperately needs? Or will the villainous silverfish succeed in ruining this literary classic and furthering their evil plan?

I have to admit that the first book and I weren't the match made in heaven I had hoped we would be. The book felt a little rushed, the world building was all over the place and there was little time to actually get attached to the characters. However, the book was a quick read, I liked the concept and I really want to read the Alice in Wonderland book. So, when I needed a quick and short read today, this was the book that came to mind.

I knew better what to expect this time and therefore the book was exactly what I needed at the moment. Just like the first book it was a really quick read. And just like the first book I have never really read the source material. However, I felt a little less lost with the characters this time. Mostly because only a few characters were really important and those got proper introductions and played a large enough role to be remembered.

I also think the world building is starting to make more and more sense. In the first novel we were thrown into the world a little quickly and there was barely any time to explain things, but in this novel our heroine has time to ask a few questions and get some answers. I also really like that there was a little plot outside fixing the fictional novel and that the characters were actively working to reach that goal too.

I still have some issues with the romance. Especially because they still haven't really met each other as themselves and it seems as if their love was a little instant. However, I do like how the relationship between them works. They really respect each other, help each other and support each other. They communicate when possible and they just want what's best for the other. I can't wait to reunite with them in the next novel!

Book two of the Literatia series takes up where we left off with our protagonist Gia having lunch with her friend Connie. Gia is suddenly called away with the request that she returns to Smithmore Manor immediately. Once again there are evil forces trying to destroy one of the classics, A Tale of Two Cities, by Charles Dickens. Gia must return through the portal to Literatia where she must battle against evil and restore the manuscript to its original state. Gia as Lucie Manette, and Matthew as Charles Doray, along with their old friend Vidocq, are working as quickly as possible to solve the murder of Lucie’s father Dr. Manette. They seem to be thwarted on all sides as they rush against time to reset the manuscript. If they cannot solve the murder, the manuscript will be destroyed. Should that happen, not only will they lose their lives in Literatia, but they will also lose their lives back home as well.

A Tale of Two Enemies will draw you in from the beginning. I love Gia! She is smart with a bit of sass as she navigates through the book, adapting to the way of life in the 1700s. Being in Literatia is no easy task! I found myself turning page after page to see what was happening next with the characters. There were so many twists and turns throughout that held my attention, and events that totally threw me off! Wow! I especially like when Gia speaks to the reader with her thoughts on what’s going on, as her true personality shines through. The story flows seamlessly, and the banter between Gia, Matthew and Vidocq kept me smiling throughout, bringing a bit of lightness to the drama surrounding them. I enjoyed this book immensely! Ms. Leeson brought the era and characters to life, with her descriptions and endearing personalities. Once again, I can’t wait for the next book. This is a cozy, historical, fantasy mystery. I highly recommend this series.

I received this book as a gift. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

“I think you were sent to me by Heaven.”

Thrust into the middle of a Tale of Two Cities with Matthew and Vidocq Gia has more to worry about that Matthew...or Charles in the incarnation...losing his head to the gallows. Something is wrong with Matthew’s son in present day North Carolina and she’s desperate to find a way to send the man she’s fallen in love with back to the future at any cost. The more I read of the series the more I enjoy it. As an added bonus a link to a short Pooh-ish prequel is included at the end of the story. Enjoy!

2.5 stars, rounded up

This wasn't a bad book but didn't really hold my attention. It drove me nuts the amount of times the narrator said "Reader,___". It worked for book 1 since that was based on Jane Eyre, but it was irritating here (and felt like it was happening more than in the first book).
