The Hidden Power

Rate this book
To realise fully how much of our present daily life consists in symbols is to find the answer to the old, old question, What is Truth ? and in the degree in which we begin to recognise this we begin to approach Truth. The realisation of Truth consists in the ability to translate symbols, whether natural or conventional, into their equivalents; and the root of all the errors of mankind consists in the inability to do this, and in maintaining that the symbol has nothing behind it. The great duty incumbent on all who have attained to this knowledge is to impress upon their fellow men that there is an inner side to things, and that until this inner side is known, the things themselves are not known.

Thomas Troward was a judge in British-administered India, where he made a personal study of the teachings of Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism. This is one of the most in-depth texts on the subject matter of thought-creation and spiritual vibration of the Law of Attraction, and so much more. Unlike many authors who momentarily mention the effects of 'negative thinking', Troward goes into great detail about the inverted use of spiritual manifestation and transmutation for evil design. The saying, 'curses come home to roost' applies. He discourses on the many schools of thought and arcane teachings that are misrepresenting truth and misguiding others to abuse the powers of thought creation. Incidentally, he also expounds on how to deflect the negative thought vibrations of others to become as a powerful shield against any and all evil influence that may seek to have hypnotic affect on the soul. In addition to giving the most detailed account that I've read thus far on the differences of these uses and abuses of power, he comes from a strong Christian perspective without the overbearing falseness exhibited by many who claim to teach the most basic elements of truth via the scope of Christian understanding. Truth is truth, and the words of Troward carry its essence with clarity and beautiful language.
Troward also discourses on the mentality duality VS unity and how we are brought up by society to function under duality rather than unity, thus the divisions that exist among humanity. 5 stars.

Excellent Classic Read

Over 120 years in publication, Troward was one of the first in New Thought writing. It is interesting to note the convergence between the Hidden Power and the old and new Testaments. Something I believe decoupled as New Age developed into a separate reality over the last century. I enjoyed the read.

This book ecplains on how the universe is connected within you aswel it goes abstract but you learn that the energy and the magnetism on what you think becomes what you are the polarity within creates what you are after.

It’s a deeper understanding on how we produce energy within the universe hoe important it is to think positive and have that affirmation within.

I have enjoyed parts like this:

This innermost of all is absolute Spirit. It is Life as yet not differentiated into any specific mode; it is the universal Life which pervades all things and is at the heart of all appearances. (p.7).

Thomas Troward's writings are very challenging and thought provoking. Some of the things he says have been said by others, but the way in which he says them is totally unique. In speaking of the Universal Spirit, he states in the chapter on "Completeness" that "it is this part of our "self" that we so often leave out". He further says that "we have only to draw on that part of ourselves which is infinite to carry out any intention we may form in our individual consciousness". All of his books are worth reading and are quite enlightening. I was particularly impressed with the underlying devoutness of Troward in his references to the scriptures and to God and Christ. He does not throw away the sacred and true inorder to present the new, he tries to show that in many ways they are not only similar to new thought but in some cases the foundation upon which so much of the new is grounded. In his section on "Fragments" there is a reference to Father, Son,and Spirit, and the words of Jesus saying "I am come that they might have life and have it more abundantly" His point being we all are striving for a greater realization of life and a higher sense of it.
