My Alien Prince

Rate this book
Hunky green aliens aren’t what I signed up for…entirely.

After my fiancé left, I impulsively joined my sister on a spaceship for an Earth-sponsored trip to Xavia, a friendly, tropical planet with handsome, alien men.

Getting paid to vacation—was too good to be true. I woke up from stasis to find we’ve been dropped off to serve as wombs for the dying Xavian race.

The Xavians are just as surprised as we are and treat us with respect, despite their population crisis. Another alien race has decimated their kind, and almost all their women.

Until Earth returns for their payment, I’m hosted by the Xavian Prince, Drex. As promised, he’s devastatingly hunky, but I’m not jumping into a relationship as quickly as I jumped onto that ship. I’ve learned my lesson, no matter how the sparks start to fly.

Bursting with sexy aliens, steamy fantasy, and smart charm, Rotha Mates of Xavia is a galaxy of dreamy romance and fated happy endings. Dive in.

¿Solicité un ARC de un tipo azul con músculos solo porque me quería unir a la ola de personas leyendo sobre extraterrestres sexys y encantadores? Sí. ¿Me arrepiento?

Palabras suyas, no mías.

Yo no”
“Yo tampoco”

2 ⭐️ Wonderful premise, horrendous writing.

First of all, I want to say that I read this as an eARC provided by Net Galley, which I’m always so grateful for and excited. Getting Advanced Copies of books is one of my favourite things in the world – and hopefully that was what this was. A very early copy.

The premise here reminded me so much of Choosing Theo, which is my absolute favourite alien romance ever, and even though this definitely had the right vibe, the writing really brought this book down. It felt like a rough first draft. There were repeated paragraphs where only two or three words changed, with grammar and spelling mistakes everywhere... Even to the point where the author gets the names of the FMC and the FMC’s sister confused. I’m going to leave some instances of the mistakes that made this book really not work for me, because I think it’s a clearer way to express my thoughts.

Chapter 12: “He crouched down by the bedside so that his head was by my crouch.”
This one was honestly just funny. I literally laugh out loud, because the spelling mistakes were everywhere, but this one’s trying to be hot and… well… the word crotch is not particularly appealing to begin with, but crouch is just funny. Especially since the word is used literally in the same sentence correctly. In general, the vernacular used during the steamy scenes was kind of strange, and the word 'trunk' is used way too often.

Chapter 22: “I wished we had done this much earlier, before we had lost so many people, but at least we had it now. It was a wonderful gift Sara had given us. I would be forever grateful for them and for her.”
Drex here is talking about the female protagonist - the one taking the photos that are here being praised - which is Katy, not her sister Sara.

Chapter 27: “She hadn’t said so, but that seemed to be here goal.”
So yeah, just mistakes like ‘here’ instead of ‘her’ - and maybe one wouldn't matter, but I feel like there was at least one like this in every chapter.

I truly hope this book gets a revision with a decent editor on board, because my recommendation right now would be to not purchase or waste your time reading this one.

Katy and her sister Sara get on a space ship for what they think will be a nice vacation. Katy will get paid for taking photographs of the alien planet and her debt from the wedding that didn't happen will be paid for. They are put into statis for the journey but once they arrive they find out that their government lied to them and they are there to help repopulate the alien species in exchange for some metals that are on the planet.

The aliens are shocked that the human government would lie to the women but make sure that they know that they will be treated well and are under no obligation to mate with anyone. The aliens are very good hosts. But another alien race, are a species everyone has to hide from because they can fly and will kidnap anyone outside. Though it's not really said what happens to them once they are taken, I was under the impression that they are killed and eaten.

Drex is the alien prince and Katy is being hosted by him in his home. She is adamant that as soon as the ship comes back, she is leaving but the longer she and Drex are around each other, the more she starts to feel something for him. Drex already has feelings for her but is the perfect gentleman until she makes a move and lets him know that she wants more.

The sex scenes were spicy! Oh my goodness, the author made these alien men, very alien and I liked it. But there is a bit of a miscommunication or not enough communication between them and they almost don't get their happy ending. Katy's sister finds herself mated to Vance, her alien host and they are very happy together so she doesn't want her sister to leave when the ship comes back for their payment of the alien metal.

I really liked this story, I love the alien men and how gracious and nice they were. I would definitely recommend this if you like alien worlds and alien romance.

Disclosure: I was give this book for free via NetGalley but all thoughts and opinions are my own.

This started out really promising but the writing took away from that.

Katy was left before she even made it down the aisle. Having to deal with the financials on her own, debt doesn’t begin to cover what she’s in. When her sister convinced her to go to space fora year, she’s all in. Drex, Xavian Prince, is looking forward to his men having women of their own to add to their dying race. It’s just too bad Earth didn’t tell the women what they were in for.

Loved the plot! Even the connection between Katy and Drex is so sweet, even though she denies it. I felt all the emotions with Drex - he is such a sweetheart.

That said, I feel like if this was revised, it would be amazing! There were a few parts where names were mixed up which made it confusing.

*I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review with my honest opinion.*

We love a good alien smut novel! I want to start out by saying I love reading smut, I even enjoy cringey smut. For My alien prince, the story was good, the slow burn was great, the sex scenes... were not my favorite. Some of the description words were so weird that it completely pulled me out of the moment and made me roll my eyes. "He explored and stroked my taste buds" like what?

Other than the jarring words in a few of the sex scenes, I really did like this book. I will likely continue and can't wait to see how the planet and government relations play out.

Thanks netgalley for the arc.

I think this concept was absolutely promising and I was quite excited to start it but unfortunately, this story did not hold up.

I understand that I received an ARC and at this point, I am not even looking at the spelling mistakes and errors.

The writing was very poor and immature and it needs serious rounds of editing. I love a good alien romance and I was expecting a lot from this book.

If you liked Ice Planet Barbarians, then I think you'll like this book!

Katy's fiancé never showed for their wedding and it was near impossible for her to go back to work as a wedding photographer after. She's down and out, financially and emotionally. Until her sister, Sara, starts the process to apply for an Earth-sponsored year cultural exchange on planet Xavia. Katy couldn't let her go alone so across the galaxies they go. Upon arrival, the women are informed that they're being dropped on this planet to help repopulate the dying Xavian people. After being duped by the government, Katy doesn't easily trust the men on Xavia even though she's wildly attracted to her host, Prince Drex. But what will happen when she's in close proximity to Prince Drex all day, every day?

I really enjoyed this book! It's a quick & fun read with some interesting alien anatomy 👀 It's told in dual POV between Katy & Drex, which makes it interesting to see his side of their interactions. However, after some scenes in one character's POV, it would switch to the other character's POV & completely re-tell the scene with their own thoughts / feelings. This made some of the book very repetitive. Also, the ending seemed rushed compared to the rest of the book. Overall, I really enjoyed the storyline and I'm interested to see where the series goes from here!

Thank you to NetGalley and Reverie Harwood for allowing me to read an early copy in exchange for an honest review.

3.75 🌟.

An engaging Alien romance with depth and wonderful characters.

I enjoyed the story and Drex was a sweet and considerate hero. I also liked his devotion to Katy.

Katy was headstrong and impulsive. Even though I liked her, I thought she was a bit impulsive at dangerous situations and didn’t like her two actions.

This one was really hot with Alien appendages *wink*.
But at times I thought certain scenes needed a little more polish.
Overall and ok read with low angst.

Recommended and safe.

I received an advance review copy and I’m leaving this review voluntarily.

This writing was just so stilted and awkward. The world building was interesting and engaging, and the characters had potential, but I kept being thrown out of the story by the writing.

Spice: 4/5

Triggers: jilted bride, repeated references to genocide parent death (off page), semi-abduction (bait and switch), abduction and implied death of side character, pregnancy

***SPOILERS***

Rating: ⭐⭐

Cover: ★★

Recommended: Dunno... Maybe?

Katy + Drex

✓ Alien (H)/ Human (h)
✓ Prince (H)/ Photographer (h)
✓ h Left at the Alter
✓ Push/ Pull
✓ No OP Drama
✓ Dual POV
✓ HEA (with Epilogue)

Thoughts:

- Katy. Her whining about 'needing to see my sister' in every fudging paragraph was so annoying. I mean gosh, your sister did not whine to see you like at all. Whenever she and Drex made love, she always left the room after she was done with him. Like wtf? Insecurities I get. But if the roles were reversed, she would definitely whine about feeling cheap and used. Ugh. Not to mention she was still hung up on her ex leaving her at the alter even around 67% or more of the book. She almost died because she thought she was a sorry excuse for a human being immune to anything🙄. She was stupid enough to go and complain knowing and seeing the dangerous creatures of the planet. Not once. Twice. I wanted to strangle her. She was so unreasonable that it was frustrating just reading about it. Mind you, she only got balls after meeting Drex🙄I did not like Katy as a person or her personality. I despise her, to be honest. Don't ask why. It started with the smallest things about her that turned into a bigger annoying thing. I forgot to mention the way she talked about rotha (mate) when her sister found hers, was making it seem so cheap and not the pure & beautiful relationship it was supposed to represent. And what's worse was that she wasn't ignorant about it. Like her sister found her mate meaning she would be a baby-making machine. What the hell is wrong with her? I also felt like she did not feel as strongly for Drex as he felt for her.

- Drex. Whatever he was, he was not an alpha male. He seemed too vulnerable and weak-minded to be an alien prince and leader. I would've liked someone more strong, grumpy, confident, and not weepy. Anyway, he was an okay character. At least I do not despise him.

- Too much unnecessary details for my liking. Unnecessary prolonging. Way too many monologues rather than actual conversations. Constantly being told instead of showing, was not enjoyable.

- When I started this book I had different expectations. I am disappointed. I wanted to enjoy it. I did. But just...couldn't? I skipped. Because some of the stuff was either too boring or too annoying. I did not want to force myself.

- I think the way Vence and Sara described in this book, I would've liked their story more. They seem to have more hot chemistry and are up my alley.

So, yeah. It was a frustrating read. Apparently, I forgot the little fact that DNF was an option. Please keep in mind, this is my opinion. My taste may be different from yours.

Well, where do I sign up for a Xavian vacation?
Katy's life becomes a mess when her fiancé leaves her before the wedding and she finds herself in debt. Being a wedding photographer makes it difficult for her to work through this mess. She joins her sister on a trip to Xavia, where they discover they must serve as wombs for the Xavian race. Despite the population crisis, the Xavians treat them with respect.
The story of Katy and Drex is amazing. Katy brings emotional baggage from her past and has trouble trusting others, but Drex is sweet and understanding of her situation, and he is ready to let her go even though she is his mate. The author does an outstanding job of blending a great plot, spicy elements, and well-developed characters.
If you enjoyed 'Ice Planet Barbarians,' you should read this book.

Before I explain anything… overall, I was happy with the story and got sucked in enough to finish it within a few days. I’d love to read part 2 and see where this story goes, or even meet other couples! I’ll explain my low rating, but wanted to be clear that there are really good parts to this book that are worth a read! 💕

What I Loved:
📸 right off the bat the FMC is very intelligent and seems to see things that other people can’t. Her inner dialogue made me realize things even I wouldn’t have noticed & I loved that.
📸 the FMC was determined to pull her own weight & take care of her sister, and that remained true though out the entire story.
📸 the MMC was very relatable but still managed to be a leader and try to put his people first. There was something about Drex that you couldn’t help but love, and instantly rooted for him.
📸 the background story of the people on this planet was so interesting. I want to read more simply to find out how they survive and triumph! I would’ve LOVED to see more of the characters that were talked about but we never got to meet. I think it would’ve added some more diversity in the plot line and helped the FMC fall in love with the planet.
📸 Lastly, the spicy scenes. They were scorching & very sexy! I love monster romance bc you never know what you’re going to get when the MMC takes off his pants or shows off his tongue and we are NOT disappointed when it comes to Drex 🥵

What I didn’t like:
👽 The biggest issue i had with this book boils down to writing. The inner dialogue felt like a giant ramble for both characters + many typos. This of course could be fixed with a good editor or some extra beta reading!
👽 some of the word choices during the spicy scenes made me physically cringe. Cavern, curtains, crotch, & trunk. I’ll let you figure out what the author was referring to with these words 🙃
👽 although I loved Drex in general, his dialogue felt too feminine & Juvenal. Obviously it’s an alien planet and the author can choose however they want their characters to be, but it was hard to envision this as an alien planet when everyone talked like they were in their freshman year at college and not running a kingdom in a far away galaxy lol.
👽there wasn’t any real sexual tension between these two. They kinda just eventually got together & THEN it was scorching hot.

I received a copy of eARC for my honest opinion.

Would you travel to an alien plant to relax and unwind because wow it looks like a tropical resort, oh and even better you will be getting paid to go on this vacation as well. On top of getting paid, you get to stay there for about 1 year. Heck However, once you get there you find out that the government has made an agreement with the aliens, women to help populate their plant in exchange for precious metals and you had no clue about it. What would you do? Go along with it, fight and make your life “living hell” for the remaining time there?

I really enjoyed this book, and I can’t wait to read more from this author. I thought the plot was well done, the characters were well-written, and the world building was done amazingly. The smut in this book was well done, and wow all I have to say magic does happen in threes. If you want to find out more you will have to read this book, I won’t spoil anything for you.

With the characters, I found that Katy’s story was really sad, and I was able to connect with her. There were times that I thought she was being a little repetitive. She does have a lot of character development though and I am happy to see how she turned a scary moment into something amazing for herself.

Drex is such a sweetheart through and through. I loved how he handled the women after he found out that our government lied to them, helped them to understand they would not be forced into anything at all. Even knowing that this program wouldn’t work for his people without having a chance for future generations. For being a prince, he had a lot on his shoulders but never once took it out on anyone.

I thought the world that was built, even its scary creatures, was so beautiful. Even knowing the dangers on that Xavia I would love to go see that place, but only this beautiful place the author made. I mean who wouldn’t want to see some hot/sexy men and the things those men can do.. DANG! If you love or like spice in your books, then this fantasy/sci-fi is a book you should read. I would rate the spice 3.5-4

I recommend this book to anyone who likes spice, fantasy/sci-fi, fated mates (called rotha bond), romance, sexy alien men and some action.

I want to thank NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for the opportunity to review this book.

You can find this review of My Alien Prince on my blog, Heart's Content!

Received an Advanced Reader’s Copy from the author/publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!

I remember when this genre first released, it was both a shock and a hit. I remember reading maybe one or two books in Ruby Dixon’s Ice Planet Barbarian series. They were all quick, joy reads but the series never stuck with me. I think I struggle sometimes with similar arc, but different stories kind of books. For someone that loves familiar patterns, I don’t know what my deal is. I honestly requested for/decided to read this book on a whim.

Anyway, circling back to MAP, the set up is a liiiiiiittttttllllllleeee like IPB. Honestly, it would be hard not to be similar given that it’s about aliens and human interaction. However, it has its own very unique stage and plot and differences. One thing that Reverie Harwood really excelled in was making the reader feel strangeness of things. I think most authors, readers, all of us focus on the similarities. We want to see things we know and understand and can digest because it doesn’t mess with our experience. But Harwood really challenges that a little, which makes sense given that it was a whole other world, species and livelihood.

I think the most special thing about this story is its heart. There’s a lot of heart in Harwood’s writing and that’s really what kept me going throughout. The book has a sweet tenor to it throughout and I loved how the people of Xavia were so respectful and kind. The set up of the book was a lot more serious than I would’ve imagined. I won’t lie, I had a flash back to this scary movie I watched as a kid which had a grotesque creature in it. *shudders*

Definitely check trigger warnings before entering.

Typically I’m never concerned with the number of typos a book has, but this particular version did have a lot of misspells, misplaced character names etc. However, a few days ago the author sent out to a mail requesting everyone who hadn’t yet read the book to download the updated version. I was almost sad I had finished reading MAP by then. I don’t really let my rating be influenced by typos, the only reason I mentioned it is because I love that the author is re-looking at her work, reworking it, making it better before putting it out there.

Three/three and a half stars! Happy reading! This book is absolutely free for KU subscribers!

First of all, when I received this book and I started reading it mmm it just wasn't compelling to me, though the writing is good, the idea of this group of women sent to "Xavia" to help repopulate their planet was good... but somehow I couldn't get invested in the story, I didn't like the female lead character (or her sister), and the male lead wasn't much better.
I did try to finish it after getting a revised version, I don't enjoy DNFing books to be honest, so I finished it today yay!
Happy reading everyone!

Only not a 5-star review because the drama can be solved way earlier with just talking lol I love the concept though. I'm definitely going to read the next one to see where this goes!

I am usually a sucker for an alien romance.

However something about this left me unsatisfied.

I struggled to warm to the heroine. She came across as a bit cold and judgmental at times.

At the start of the book she is left practically at the alter and it is her younger sister who pretty much sorts it all out and supports the heroine for a year - yet the heroine seems to think her sister is almost a child - thinking that when the sister applied to go to the alien planet she should have "nipped it in the bud" and "refused to let her apply at all."

She also seems to judge the sister - thinking that the government probably had not even had to lie to the sister about the real reason they were being sent to Xavia as the sister would be totally on board with alien sex, she always got "close fast to her boyfriends" and this little titbit when thinking about her sister "One planet or another, it was all the same. Good sex was good sex. Honestly I was a little annoyed. Our government had dropped us off to have sex with these men, and my sister's promiscuity made her seem complicit."

Then she runs away - knowing that there are evil flying monsters about, not having an idea where she is going leading to the hero having to save her and pretty much offer himself up as a sacrifice for her to get away - and when the hero nervously asks if she is going to run away again she thinks "Good. He should be nervous. I'm not his and he should wonder what I'm going to do because I'm my own person" - like OK love, but this guy was willing to sacrifice himself for you when he had known you for a couple of hours, despite him being the Prince and Leader of his people, a people who are dying and need all the leadership and hope they can get. She of course runs away a second time closer to the end of the book and has to be saved again by the hero.

The Hero was ok - but he felt at times a bit juvenile almost and loved a bit of self-flagellation.

All in it was an ok read- I found myself skimming towards the end as it was a bit repetitive. But I think when I read an alien romance I prefer the hero to be a bit more alpha warrior/space pirate-y like, or a "me tarzan you jane" situation - which probably says a lot more about me than this book!

Tropes: Miscommunication, Alien Romance, Forced Proximity, Fated Mates

FMC Katy and her sister agreed to go on a US government funded cultural exchange to an alien planet. So they are put into stasis with a bunch of other women and unceremoniously dropped off where they find out via a video that they aren't there for cultural exchange but rather as wombs for the aliens who are suffering a population crisis in exchange for a rare metal that Earth needs. Also, the ship won't be back for a year so good luck. Enter Drex, the prince of the Xavians who, due to a sudden attack by yet another alien race has to grab Katy and bring her back to his underground home without being able to explain things.

This book has an interesting premise, which seems completely within the realm of what a government would do, which causes trust issues for the women and Xavians involved. There's a big focus on consent and the Xavian race actually seems more "humane" than most humans in how they treat the betrayed women after realizing they were misled. I did want to just snap at Katie for being stuck mentally on needing to get back to Earth and also at both characters for not being direct with each other throughout the months they end up spending together. The miscommunication trope is fully utilized in this book.

As for the spice, there was a lot of it and it was very explicit. I would actually say some of it was tooooo detailed and needed some different vocabulary. There was also 2 chapters that featured a pretty long scene, with the first chapter being from Katy's POV that covered the entire scene, from start to finish. Then the next chapter was the entire scene again but from Drex's POV. I think those chapters in particular should've been combined and just been alternating POVs throughout to have the flow be better.

Overall, it is a spicy, fun read that just needs a bit more editing to get a higher rating. I enjoyed the premise and Drex is a consent king. I recommend this for fans of IPB & other alien romances, especially if the miscommunication trope is a fave.

I received early access to this book through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
This story follows Katy who has been left at the alter on her wedding day with no explanation from her fiancé. After a year of working to recover from her broken heart and trying to piece her life back together, she joins her sister, Sara, on an 18 month getaway to the planet Xavian. Upon arrival, they discover the circumstances of their trip were not all revealed to them and Katy has to deal with that while still healing and trying to adjust to being on a new planet. She finds herself living with Drex, the Xavian prince, who is struggling in his new role in leading his people and having confidence in his abilities to lead them.
I really enjoyed this book. The characters were likable and had good distinguishable personalities. I especially loved Drex and Vance, his close friend and advisor. The premise of the story was also somewhat different from other alien romances that I have read, which usually involve humans who were kidnapped from Earth.
The reason for only a three star rating is because it could really benefit from another round or two of editing and proofreading. There are quite a lot of instances of wrong word usage (her instead of him, had instead of hadn't, and switching Katy's & Sara's names), repeated lines or paragraphs (where the wording was changed but the previous edit was left in), as well as some switching from past to present tense. It wasn't enough to make me stop reading, but often brought me out of the story. If these problems were fixed, it would get a solid 4 stars.

*I was very kindly sent this in exchange for an honest review via Netgalley*

My first Sci-Fi Romance of the 2023! It was pretty enjoyable, decent characters, a really nice world, good mix of cultures, etc. I did feel that it lacked slightly in the plot outwith their romance department, there was the opposing species as there usually is in this genre but I didn't feel like much progress was made in that, or there wasn't really a moment where that all came to a head. Everything definitely revolved around the romance...which isn't a bad thing but just meant it lost a bit of the spark for me.
One thing I did ADORE about this book was the Xavians as a race. This author really took the phrase best things come in three's seriously, three tongues...three *other* parts of their anatomy...
It was amazing! It made the sex super fun, different, and so much experimentation with the differences between the humans and the Xavians. It really off-set the mild lack of exterior plot to have such a well developed alien race and their cultures.
There was defintely a HEFTY amount of miscommunication in this book...which isn't usually for me and did start to annoy me near the end, but overall not too bad.
Overall a solid 3 star. If you are an alien porn addict like myself then definitely check this out, just for how unique their species was and the creativeness of the author, but if you're not really into the genre I'd probably start out with something a bit more humanoid before venturing here.

I delved into My Alien Prince looking for a good escape story. Fortunately, I did find that. Unfortunately, the storyline wasn't quite as strong as I hoped for.

Katy is persuaded by her sister, Sara to visit another planet on a goodwill mission. There is a financial incentive for people to agree to go since it's a one year commitment and Katy needs the money so she agrees. When they get there, the situation isn't at all what they expected. Apparently, they are expected to stay with hosts on the planet with the hope that they will form a connection and choose to stay. Ultimately, the goal is for them to procreate as the planet has lost a great deal of its female population and is in danger of extinction due to another alien race which invaded and has been attacking them.

Katy is matched up with the Prince, Drex. She's determined that she'll eventually return to Earth, so she tries to keep her feelings on lock-down. Of course, Sara is all in and immediately falls for the alien she is matched with. Drex, Katy's match is considerate and determined to not pressure her in any way. As time progresses, their chemistry takes over and brings them together.

I think this book had great promise. Unfortunately, somewhere along the way, it lost steam. I did like the finish and felt like it gave the reader a solid and happy resolution. I think it just felt sluggish in the middle.

Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC. I voluntarily chose to read and review it and the opinions contained within are my own.

My Alien Prince is a light-hearted alien romance which adheres to multiple classic tropes while still giving them a fresh spin. Katy travels to the planet, Xavia, with her sister in an attempt to restart her life after being left at the altar. When they arrive, she is dismayed to discover they’re actually a shipment of essentially breeding stock, rather than the cultural exchange she was led to believe. Drax, the leader of the Xavians, is dismayed by the human government’s duplicity. He had hoped to facilitate potential matings between the species to help stave off extinction, but was not looking for love for himself. When the fated rotha bond forms between Drax and Katy, Drax struggles to distance himself so that Katy maintains her autotomy and can potentially return home to Earth.

Unlike many fated mates tropes, the rotha bond is a gradual thing. I particularly liked the gradual build and how the character’s mental states and emotional acceptance was necessary for different stages of the bond. It allowed for a more believable relationship to develop. That being said, the speed at which the two main characters jumped into bed together given their strong reasons for not engaging in a relationship was a bit difficult to believe.

Overall an enjoyable fluffy romp of a romance about choosing yourself and love.

Drex is the prince of his people and he has reached out across the stars in a bid to bring hope to his people. They are dying out as their females are being preyed upon. The only chance now is to find a comaptible species and hope that the women will travel to Xavia and in time form matebonds with his people. What he was not expecting was that those in charge on Earth would lie to the women and leave them entirely unprepared when they were deposited on his planet not even aware of why they were actually there! Katy was all ready to get married when her groom decided not to. Her sister Sara has tried to get her out of her shell since then but failed up until she tells her that she, Sara, is taking off to go to Xavia for a year. Katy being the big sister has no intention of letting her go for that long so she reluctantly agrees to go with her. I have to say that while I did like Katy, there were times when for an intelligent woman she really didn't react that way. She came across as petulant, childish and a little holier-than-thou and it made me really frustrated with her. She wanted things her way but then when it not longer suited her sudden she didn't like it. I totally understand being hurt however to then treat everyone as though they were automatically lying to her, trying to get something out of her or just distrustful was a bit much. Well for me anyway.

First, I’m always grateful to have the opportunity to read an eARC copy through NetGalley. I give this 3.5 stars. This was a short, fun and steamy story. I like it, and it was like a paladar cleanser after some heavy books that I just finished before reading this ARC. There were some orthographic mistakes , but overall the premise was good, it kept me interested and I finished this in 2 days. I love short chapters. I enjoy the slow burn at first, and then their passion and time together. It wasn’t heavy, and I like how she was interested in everything evolving Drex and like to help with what she can at the moment. Drex was so sweet since the beginning. He just want for her to be easygoing, confortable and after all the misinformation that Katy have about going there he was just trying his best to make her feel secure.

What I don’t enjoy that much was that it had to many details about her sister Sara and her couple Vance. I doesn’t leave what her relationship with him it will be if there is going to be a book about her. Like right now I know every important detail about them, and their easiness in their relationship since the begging. Too many details about them, it doesn’t leave me intrigued about them.

Thank you to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.

The book starts off with our FMC, Katy, being left at the altar. Her impulsive sister decides to take part in a government sponsored cultural exchange trip to an alien planet and Katy tags along to get over being jilted and keep her sister out of too much trouble. The trip turns out to be less of a cultural exchange and more of a "our race has been decimated and we need to breed females to keep our race alive" trip. Conflict ensues.

Generally, I really enjoyed this book. The premise was interesting. The way characters interacted with each other was believable and with just enough conflict to make a good story. And it doesn't hurt that the sex scenes and alien anatomy were :fire:.

This book has so many tropes that I love: fated mates, forced proximity, not-quite-enemies-to-lovers. It also tackles some heavier topics around the purpose of government, how to trust when your trust has been broken before, the need for a purpose and something meaningful to do.

While all of that is great, this book would have benefitted from another round of editing. I'm not someone who generally notices the quality of writing but there were enough grammar and spelling mistakes and use of the absolutely wrong word that it took me out of the story a few times.

This won't be the most amazing book you've ever read but if you are in to alien fated mates, I would give this one a go as long as you can read past the grammar oddities.

Let me start off by saying:

THIS was the weirdest peen I’ve ever come across.

It was so weird, so monstrous, that it was borderline horrifying? Which was so much fun 🤣 Apparently there’s a 69 themed novella with this author’s newsletter and..😳 I’d read it.

If I had known that the most bonkers alien peen of all time was coming down the plot pipeline, I probably would’ve had a better reading experience. This is a book you read for the bizarre steam (think: every hole is a goal 😆), not for the sci-fi world building.

Most of the book was good. Our alien hero was a cinnamon roll (the sweet, over-thinking kind), our human heroine had a decent head on her shoulders, and we had some cute fated mates goodness.

But sometimes the way things were phrased was.. a choice, there was some repetitiveness, a few plot holes, and meh world building. I’m just going to chalk all that up to this being an independent debut author’s ARC and it won’t stop me from continuing on in this series.

In fact, I’d highly recommend this to someone going into it for the right reasons, aka bonkers peen.
