Dark Moon #1

Alpha Nocturne's Contracted Mate: The Second Chance Mate

Rate this book
"Fuck, Ada…"

"Brad... oh, fuck... deeper... harder!" Ada's shrill voice begged between breathy moans.

The banging of the headboard against the wall intensified as Ann froze.

No... it couldn't be!

She took a deep breath and nudged the door a little more. Her chest felt like it would explode as she held her breath whilst the crack widened.

When it revealed her sister lying underneath Ann's husband-to-be, her hands flew to her mouth to stifle the gasp of horror as her heart shattered instantly.

As Brad roared his release inside her sister, Ada turned her head towards the door with a smirk.

An icy chill descended over Ann as if a bucket of ice water had been thrown over her and she stood and stared, her eyes wide and mouth slightly open in disbelief.

Ada lifted her hand and waved in Ada's direction with a smug smile plastered on her face as Brad collapsed on top of her, kissing her neck tenderly.

Is there anything you can do if your mate had sex with your sister?

I read the books advertised on Facebook and Booktok so you don’t have to.

The main premise is that Ann catches her fated mate, Brad, balls deep in her step-sister, Ava, the night before their wedding. Heartbroken, she is drowning her sorrows in a bar and stumbles across Adam, an alpha in need of a wife. She agrees to a marriage of convenience lasting 5 years.

I read a free epub version of this book and don’t know if the author found an editor, but wow does she need one. At one point her main character, Ann, picked up an E and became Anne. I also found several typos, malaprops, and even a stray question mark. I think we’ve read enough shifter books to understand the class structure with Alpha at the top, but there is a poorly developed political system here that doesn’t make a lot of sense. Is the king more than just a figurehead or business leader? Does Nocturne owe fealty to Veritas? Why do Ann and Adam refer to each other as Alpha and Princess after they marry? That’s totally weird, right, when he asked her to call him Adam? Why does the author insist on imposing a weird purity culture on their society, especially since Adam was as delicate as brain surgery with a sledgehammer her first time. (He slammed his huge cock in and hit her cervix, y’all. Ouch.) And if Brad was able to feel her orgasm through the mate bond, why wasn’t Ann able to feel him having sex with her whackadoodle step-sister? What is Ava’s motivation for mate stealing and why doesn’t she have a wolf? How does one get a wolf? So many questions.

I get that Ann is protective of Adam and doesn’t want to accept the mate mark for a short-term contractual marriage of convenience (in case his fated mate shows up), but apparently they’re planning to go to a daemon realm for a mystical mark-faking ceremony, which seems really unlikely, really risky, and wholly unnecessary. Give the girl a hickey and move on, brother.

The most infuriating thing, though, is that the author just stops at chapter 50. She hit some arbitrary word count and put a cover on it. I feel like I read a third draft of someone’s Word Pad fan fic and am a little salty about it. There are at least four more of these books to slog through. My advice is to not get invested.

Look it's an okay story but the author relies heavily on telling vs showing and the conversations were rather robotic.

I didn't love the characters and I think its because they all felt superficial.

The smut was probably the better part of entire story.
The other issue is that there were spelling errors and typos and using the wrong name in parts
For the price of all 3 books which is actually one book I would want to not find Ava in place of Ada.

Inconsistent

A lot of typographical and continuation errors. One minute, she avoids the marking in case their true mates come along, then suddenly markings don't work unless it is with a true mate?

Good but unfinished

Entertaining but had to give only 3 stars after hearing it's not finished (as in a normal story arch) even after two books.

Cliffhanger

Alpha Nocturne’s Contracted Mate is a second chance paranormal romance. A great introduction to The Dark Moon series by A. E. Randell. Even though I enjoyed reading this book, I don’t plan on continuing with the series. I don’t like to read short fast paced quick reads that ends with a cliffhanger for the next couple of books in the series. All the drama, twist, and turns will make you either love reading this or hate it. I gave three stars because it read like a synopsis and I don’t plan on buying the next book in the series. I like the characters but not the plot or ending.

A lot of typos. I was happy to find the book in the kindle store. But was not happy to find she not only didn’t finish the book but ended it right in the middle of a thought/ sentence basically. Most of the chapters are like that too it’s ridiculous. Aside from that I felt the characters were lacking and just superficial. I was constantly correcting the errors throughout this book. Not something I like doing especially after paying 5.99 for it. I will not be purchasing the other books in this series because personally I feel it should have been just one book entirely. It needs more. More details, more character development and structure. Not worth the price that it is.

surprised

This was actually a great read, I’m so glad I was able to buy the book instead of buying a ton of coins to keep reading chapters. I have found quite a few rare gems on those particular websites but couldn’t finished them because the price. Getting ready to purchase the second installment to find out what happens next. I hope the second book it just as fire as this one. And I love the main characters, great chemistry.

It's not a complete book.

This book is not a stand alone book. It just ends in the middle. It's a good start to a book but when you buy a book you expect a complete story or even a story that has a conclusion to at least some of the issues with some left hanging in order to leave an opening for a sequel. Not this book though it literally is just stops in the middle. Maybe not even the middle.

Overall, the story plot and idea is interesting, however, the execution of the character development for the FMC was poor. Ann is annoying, really stupid, and puts herself into stupid situations that EVERYONE around her warns her against, yet she ALWAYS decides to do the thing that either(falsely) incriminates her or risks her mental and physical well-being. Her thought process is frustrating and stupid, and her personality is insufferable.

Pretty Good

Pretty good story. Started reading it on a Facebook ad then got directed to web novel app. Decided to check goodreads to see if it was available on Kindle or Google and found it on Amazon.

Has some editing errors but nothing to bad. Storyline was good although I felt like some things could've been explored more.

Ends on a cliffhanger.

Great start!

I started this novel on FB. I didn’t want to download the recommended app because I refused to use them. So I googled and found it on Amazon. I love the plot and characters and can’t wait to start on the book in the series.

It works!

Wont lie I laughed out loud more n once! It's a typical shifter story, horny wolves, magik, supernatural, hocus pocus with some humor stirred in for the final touch. It works! I read it in a sitting and writing a review at 3:51am 🤣

Great Story Line but too short

Great Story Line but too short, it didn’t need to cut into another book so quickly. The grammar mistakes and lack of editing is noticeable but I was able to get past it. I’ll be getting the next book.

Alpha's and Princess's Contractual Marriage

I am thoroughly enjoying this series. I love the dynamics between Princess Ann and Alpha Nocturne. I also love Lexi, Ann's best friend, who is a pistol. Love the story.

Great Book

Couldn't put the book down. I am going to have to read the whole series now. Hoping that they truly are second chance mate's and everything works out. I know I am a hopeless romantic and need that happy ending.

Good Read…to short

Liked the story line and the characters were interesting. However, it was short, I wish they would finish this part of their story in one book. Don’t know if I will purchase book two. Would definitely read it if it was longer or on kindle unlimited.

Thanks for putting your story on . Love these characters except 3 of them. I am sure you will be able to guess after reading the book. So get the books and leave your reviews. I wish these were on Kindle Unlimited

Fairly good story, poorly executed

The storyline is pretty good, but the lack of punctuation (or incorrect punctuation), and so many typos, makes this a pretty rough read. The sex scenes are also really stupid, and unnecessarily crass, but I'll probably read the rest of the books.

Intriguing Storyline

I enjoyed the world set up and characters. Keeping some secrets hidden adds to the mystery of their pasts. Only thing that could be improved is proper editing of spelling or sentence structure. Example being sometimes the genders would be swaped.

Tantalizing

I like how the characters shaped up, specifically the good ones . It’s shirt and to the point with not too much description but just enough to paint the picture. I can’t wait to see Ada , he mom and dad being disseminated.
