“No female should suffer like that when she goes into a heat circle! If you’re worried about the gods’ scheme of using June to divide and conquer us, let her pick one of us, any of us. Decide, Ryder.”
“I’ll do it!” Ryder growls. “If any of you touches her, my dragon will break free and go berserk.”
The ruthless demigod dragon doesn’t believe I’m a storm chaser but deems me the reincarnation of some femme fatale who seduced his entire team and murdered his BF. Unfortunately for me, I look just like her.
While he hates me with a passion, he also burns for me.
I shouldn’t crave the fireworks whenever we’re together—it always ends in disaster. Especially after I learn the dark truth—the vengeful gods cursed him to endure endless hunt until he finds his fated mate and slays her.
I have one goal—to escape Ryder and the heat that makes me want him every second. Should I fail, I vow to bring Ryder to his knees he ruins me.
If you like a dominant, possessive, and damaged demigod dragon, tough nerdy heroine, panty-melting heat in action, and enemies-to-lovers trope, you’ll enjoy this series.
Meg Xuemei X is a USA Today and Amazon Charts bestselling author of paranormal and fantasy romance. She loves writing badass heroines and hot psycho alphaholes.
Not gonna lie, I think I picked this up because I was hungry and the guy on the cover reminded me of a chicken tender piece. Had he reminded me of a piña colada, it'd have been a literal thirst trap.
Jokes aside, I went into this with zero expectations, which is why it doesn't hurt a bit the fact that this let me down completely. I mean...it wasn't THAT bad and I've honestly read worse stuff lately, but the plot was really messy, the romance super cheesy and the writing very immature, repetitive and some lines really gave me secondhand embarrassment. I could totally see myself reading this book ironically and ironically tolerating it, but not more than that. Alas, I'm not in a silly mood, which means I don't regret putting this aside, especially because I'm also not even interested in seeing how this ends. I don't usually rate or add to my reading challenge books I DNF, but I'm m giving myself permission to do it with this one because I made it to 83% before giving up.
Wow. This book was addicting and HOT. I love June and applaud her not giving in to her circumstances. Although Ryder is a giant jerk he is so swoon worthy and I love the monologue with his dragon. Seriously can’t wait for the next installment!!
Wow! This is the start of a new series that is fabulous. It is a fast paced story that has humor and action all rolled into one. It will pull you in and doesn’t let go. June is feisty and caring all at the same time. I love her personality and her strength. Then we have Ryder who is arrogant and egotistical but yet you can’t help but love him all the same. I love the support characters as they add a great element to the story. This story is unique and original. The descriptions are vivid and detailed. The story starts right off with action and doesn’t stop. We explore a crazy world with June and we see so much in such a short time. I love Meg Xumei X’s writing as it is always one to pull you in. It is always extremely well written and developed. This one is no different. I was sad to see it end and as it ends in a major cliffhanger I excitedly wait for the next book in the series. This is absolutely a must read and honestly will not disappoint.
Do u know why I love ur books Meg? Because u create a powerful H n h everytime and Im hooked everytime😍 I cant wait for their next book Im so excited! I hope June become the badasss Queen and Ryder become the King of all Kings 🙏🏻
P/S: and that cover? So freakin hot!!!!! Its how I imagine Ryder will be...and I hope he will reunite w his family...
Delicious! That's the word that kept repeating in my mind as I read this. Until, that is, I got to the cliffhanger ending and started to giggle like a madman. I admit it. I have a sick fascination with cliffhangers. It's probably unhealthy, and I know it's an unpopular opinion, but I love them. This one was perfect. It came at the perfect spot in the story, and I'm craving the next book like an addict that needs a fix.
On to the story review. This may be one of the darker stories Meg has written, and I'm here for it. It has the flavor of Omegaverse, minus the knotting and the nesting, and pushes the envelope when it comes to Alpha-hole male. Ryder is infuriating, and I couldn't get enough of him. June is strong, determined, unafraid, independent, and a true heroine. I loved her instantly.
The story throws you into the steam in the first few pages, and the action and adventure quickly follow. Neither the people nor the situations are as they appear, and outside forces may have more control than it seems. Even though things unfold at a rapid pace, there are still a lot of unknowns at the end of the story. Ryder has a history that haunts him and impacts every relationship he has, and he keeps things deeply hidden. June, on the other hand, shouts out almost all of her thoughts, and it colors all of her interactions with the group. She has been thrust into an unknown and unbelievable situation, and her struggle to understand and accept are relateable. I love the rich world building and the complex characters, and I love not knowing how things are going to unfold. I love that this story connects to some of the previous series, even if they are just mentioned in passing. It can be read as a stand-alone series, but I highly recommend everything by this author. If you love magic, Gods, shifters, sassy heroines, daring heroes, and high heat, you won't be disappointed.
First in Series - does not end, story continues in next book. A really enjoyable audiobook which jumps right in and starts off quite steamy. An action packed and at times steamy story, which has the characters fighting for their lives trying to survive the brutal world they have all been banished to. The story is about June, a storm chaser who meets Ryder in the eye of the tornado that she gets caught up in. She is thrown into another world where she confronts beasts that want to kill her and is kidnapped by what she thinks are Vikings. Saved and taken to Ryder’s home she is treated as a slave and not trusted within the small group of supernaturals. They think the gods have plotted against them and sent her to their world to destroy them. There is undeniable lust, jealousy, denial, deception and fighting making this a very eventful story which made for easy listening. Looking forward to the next book for the completion of the story and also liked listening to the narrator. I was given a free audiobook copy of this story for my honest review.
Don’t know how this is rated so high on good reads
I tried to get into this book, but I just absolutely couldn’t for one. It was all over the place she had the wild hunt and then she had a vampire and werewolf, and a demigod and a phoenix and all these different characters then there are, these were these beasts and then you were going into portals and going to different worlds and then it’s such immature writing as far as the conversations between the main woman character and the main male character has the stuff they were talking about did not make sense. Did not tell you and do each other. I would absolutely not read this again because I was so far in depth I needed to finish this, so that I could not waste my time as not adding it to my read shelf. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.
I have read many of Meg's books and so far have enjoyed them all. This was no exception. I devoured this book. The world and character building were good, and I enjoyed the story. I did feel like the book was missing something, but that could just be something that ends up being tied up in book 2. I have also found that I'm not a huge fan of miscommunication tropes.
My heat rating is based on the amount of occurrence, the length of scenes, and how filthy/ unconventional. With the way this book began, I at first assumed it would have a high heat rating but was surprised by how wrong that assumption was. There are only 2 real scenes, but a lot of talk about anticipating. 1 was short, and 1 was of average/short length. 2 out of 5 🌶
I really enjoyed this one! First off I love dragons and other supes so this was exciting going in. The way this is written easily kept my interest. A human goes to another world and finds out her true purpose as well as all about supernaturals (That was the funniest scene ever!). This has an underlying dangourous element that we learn about while seeing a lot of action, suspense and sexy times.
The characters are very entertaining. While I like the main two my favorite ones are on the team. They blend well amd all have secrets. I really did like Ryders dragon. I mean Ryder was ok but very negative and wishy washy. He grew on me but his dragon is delightful.
Overall a good story but sadly it is not a conclusive one. I did listen to this on Audio. Victoria Mei is amazing as always.
Umm...I don't know how to feel. I am a bit hard pressed to believe that the all-powerful Marigold, her demigods, Loki and Tessa..could do nothing when their child was kidnapped and stayed kidnapped for two centuries. Either their power was grossly exaggerated in the past books ( which doesn't make me feel good ) or there is something else going on. But even still.... nothing and I mean NOTHING should have stopped them from storming Hera and the wild hunt with that power. Legendary living flame does not feel so legendary any more.
I guess I just have to read the next book to find out.
Crown of Thorns and Sins 1. A new author for me. This book is a fantastic read. Shifters, beasts, demons, demigods, gods and dragons oh my! It started off real crazy and hectic. But it just gets better and better as you read on. No spoilers from me. If you love an alphahole and women that take no ish but has this OMG WTF to them, then this is for you. High angst, smexy AF, hella drama, gritty action, lots of lies, secrets and twisty turns. Ends in a sort weird cliffhanger so onto the next book.
I just couldn’t finish the book. What is this?! I usually don’t even write reviews. I like to read them to see if I should read a book. But this book. I have read some bad books but this one is by far the worst. Her other books are so much better so i dont know where it went wrong here. The writing is so childish and immature. Don’t waste your time reading this. Unless you like every bad thing I mentioned.
What a great continuation of this series. I just purchased the next book, but stopped to leave a review. I really enjoy Meg’s books. The characters are well done. The world building is fantastic. The twists, turns, and drama are great, and never disappoint. The steam level is perfection. I love the humor and the way the stories suck me in and play on my emotions. I highly recommend this author and this series.
I love smut as much as anyone. I just could not really get behind the story, the characters, the weapons they used. The world seemed all over the place.
The protagonist seems whiny and stuck on "what mom always said" which I just found to be annoying.
Maybe the series picks up in the later books but I will not be reading the rest of the series.
When did Loki & Tessa's baby get kidnapped! Did I miss a prequel somewhere :( I loved this story. Meg knows how to grab your attention & keep it. The whitty banter & self monolog is perfection. It makes the book all the more interesting. I'm not sure how Ryder is going to dig himself out of the mess he is creating with his fated mate. He better learn to crawl, beg, & grovel. Him stomping on her heart is doing no good.
The story is addicting. But honestly all the hate and inability to communicate appropriately gets to be quite infuriating. And also how bipolar June is, from being able to jump monsters to cowering in fear to jumping monsters again. It just doesn’t seem realistic. That being said I will keep reading until i get so frustrated that, for my own emotional well being, that i’ll stop.
I am really lining this storyline I'm loving the secondary characters as well, a lot! June's denial is a bit irritating but hopefully she'll come around. Ryder is such an a$$ to her, hopefully we get somewhere in the next book with him lol Off to read the next one Woot!
Well, It had everything I expected from a dragon shifter romance. Male alphas. Possesivenes. Mating calls. Heat cycles. Pure enemies to lovers. Which I love the resolution afterwards. Steam is also nice. You wont regret reading this. Its also not that long, I wished it was though!
Crown of Thorns and Sins is book five in the series Underworld Bride Trials by author Meg Xuemei. Wow just wow. This review will be short and sweet since I have this burning need to grab the next book. Real quick I don’t like cliffhangers but wow. I’m not going to complain. This on is HOT AND BRUTAL AND HOT. Oh I said that already, ok laters. Enjoy!!
Noooo! Rider is now Ryder and has been stolen from Tessa and Loki and is now 2 centuries later he is stuck in the wild hunt and this Sara from Whistler type pops in but we know she’ll be stronger but right now she’s just too simple. And hearing he is the last of the line makes me sad because even in he womb he was asking his mom and dad for siblings.
I was absolutely a little confused at first. I love Ryder at first I felt so much was skipped but then learning he was taken.as a toddler an the gods roles I can't wait to see how it goes. His parents an him being so strong how did the gods get the upper hand ohhh I hope he stomps them
The god has abused Ryder since he was a child, and he was tired of playing their games. He knew they would use it against him if he showed any emotion. So he never allows himself to show his true self. He knows that all his loved ones are at risk, and he will not make it easy for his enemies to keep using him.
June is strong, opinionated, and stands up for herself. She has no idea of her true identity, and her life has been full of secrets. Her anger and frustration fly against Ryder, which is so much fun to read. I love that the dragon fights for her even when Ryder can't.
Ryder's story will have you at the edge of your seat and wanting more. I can't wait to see where the author takes this series.
The story was different, male characters were alright, and the world building unique. The conversations were not enjoyable and the main character unlikeable. I’m not interested enough to continue the series.
Loving this series so far meg always has brilliant characters and words full of lore I can't wait for June to finally transform and beat the crap out of Ryder then maybe sum hard core love making lol also that succubus is guilty of something bad I just feel it
Fascinating cross between dragon shifters and other paranormals, romance and hunger games. Love the mix of characters. Not thrilled with the ending ending, but you hooked me so I have to read the next book in series.
I love Ryder and the guys taking care of her (even if Ryder is a jerk). What better is that June is starting to come into her own. I’m hoping she’s a badass!
Fated mates, men, Demi Gods etc. always act like aholes. It must be their fear of acceptance, betrayal, love..that makes them act as they do. I think June will be their salvation! We shall see, won't we?
What an incredible start to a new series that completely blew me away. You are going to fall in love with Ryder and June. Guaranteed to keep your attention right from the start. Meg does it again.
