If you like Science fiction romance, cinnamon roll male leads who don't realise how deadly they are, sassy and foul-mouthed female leads, tender romance, plot, danger, plenty of NSFW steamy romance, very alien peen, vampirism, with HEA and a hook into book two, then read Indentured Companion. Don't forget to claim your free short story at the end!

She has no other choice, but to go into the Indentured Servitude Centre, and seek out a contract to protect her Caste and her future. It's just one year of service, right? Her rights are protected by the ISC. Then she can start anew with the pay-out she will receive at the end. Enter the Dynast. A mysterious Korvis. His race has been exiled for over 100 years by the Theskian Empire for their...feeding habits. And now, Valerie is on the menu. Is the Dynast like the monsters displayed in horror films? Yah, but what colour were his eyes? Lilac? I'm joking, obviously because omg it was mentioned every 3 seconds. Jokes aside, the book wasn't bad. I liked that the MMC wasn't the typical alpha male and had a gentle personality. The writing was a little clunky and although the FMC was supposed to come off as tough and no-nonsense, she often came across as a bit of a Karen. Either way, it's an interesting premise and I'll likely read the next books in the series.
What got me to read this book was the blurb and I liked the cover. The story itself was good, but I think if I ever read about someone’s brown and especially lilac eye color, it will be too soon. There was A LOT of overuse when it came to descriptions and such. So much so that it became incredibly distracting, making it harder for me to read the story.
Our MMC wasn’t so much a cinnamon roll as just a kind and VERY emotional guy. I didn’t get cinnamon roll vibes until kind of at the very end.
The steamy scenes were okay- I definitely could have used some variation and I think förèplay would have been a good add on.
I think the author would benefit from going through the story and removing some stuff, it got boring in sections where the paragraphs were full of info and never ending. I think with some fine tuning this story could be really great.
I wasn't sure what to expect with this book, I had never read this author before, so I was going in blind. Honestly? I loved it. I'm usually into a big alpha hero with a take no prisoners type of attitude, but Vrajan was a total cinnamon roll that i just wanted to eat up. Valerie had me laughing at her interactions with Vrajan and others. This book hit all the right notes with me and I enjoyed it immensely. If you enjoy sweet alien vampires and the fierce women who love them, give it shot.
Solid plot, loved the characters, loved the worldbuilding, can't wait for more!
I really love that our MMC Vrajan, the big bad scary Korvis, is a shy, gentle cinnamon roll soul who is just Trying His Best (tm) to help his people and persevere in the face of serious discrimination. I like that Valerie, our human FMC, had her own life and personality and being with Vrajan didn't change any of that. Or at least, any changes were for the better!
A bit about the premise of the indentured servitude in this book, which I found really interesting. They seem genuinely set up more like short-term work contracts with some legal and economic benefits rather than an alternate name for economic slavery.
Indentured servants are apparently considered the economic backbone of intergalactic society. While there are indentured servants that serve as sex workers (something our FMC Val is initially scared about given her urgency severely limits her options), they are not remotely limited to that. They are widely used for a variety of jobs including ones you might imagine like manual labor, food service, and administration but there are more I wasn't expecting. It's made clear that one of the alien races heavily relies on indentured servants for childcare, for example.
Indentured servants also seem to be decently respected by the galaxy at large. One of the council members is livid about the hint of disrespect for indentured servants, stating that his mother is one. Another is very upset as she states that she met her husband when he was an indentured servant serving as staff. Valerie's own sister is hired on as an accountant, taking advantage of her accountant and financial background.
I'm really looking forward to more in this series. I have so many questions about the characters established in this book and look forward to learning more about the different races.
I also want to note that I've read Millie Lowelle before and regretted the amount of mistakes and editing needed because the story was so good. In this book, I don't know if the beta readers were better, the fact that she used beta readers, Millie improved, or what, but it felt like there were far fewer issues in this one! There were still lots of punctuation errors and a pet peeve of mine about not formatting character dialogue/action together properly but there were little to no spelling errors this time and overall it felt better prepared. So yay!
I'm ALSO pleased that, while there is a clear unanswered plot line that set the stage for book 2, this book didn't abruptly end mid-action in a devastating cliffhanger like Millie had the bad habit of doing in the Otherworldly Match series. Ya girl hates cliffhangers and this ending was decently tied up for Valerie and Vrajan! <3
Begins badly with one of my least favourite elements - alliteration of their names e.g. Vrajan and Valerie. But the plot was good, the H had special 'attributes' and I liked that he was very emotional. Good scifi fantasy romance.
I loved this book! Vragan is a cinnamon roll and oh so lovable but strong and fierce when needed. Val is his perfect complement. Waiting now for Val's sister in book 2.
I liked the book but there are so many misspellings, incorrect word choices, inconsistencies, and anachronisms it’s hard to stay focused on what’s happening sometimes. (Like I’m pretty sure a few hundred years in the future, no one will be firing up laptops. Also, no one can see you smiling at them when you’re wearing a full face veil.) The first few chapters are the worst with random switches between present and past tense and at least one switch from first to third person. A lot of people don’t mind these kinds of errors, but to me it’s just sloppy and undermines the overall story.
Magnificent shit-talking heroine, check. Mysterious 7’ tall sweetie, check. Real chemistry, check. Also? His anatomy is — no, no, I won’t spoil the surprise. Highly recommended.
DNF @ 11% Some of the worst writing I've ever encountered in a published novel. Awkwardly phrased. Stiff dialogue. Immature, inane 1st person narration. And verb tense switched throughout.
This book and the story itself has a lot of potential, specifically for people that love to read about the reverse grumpy/sunshine dynamic (me, I am one of them). However, it does need be polished. Maybe with the help of an editor and a proofreader because throughout the book some of the sentences just didn't flow, and it had some typos (Ex.: Chapter 38 Reuinited). To the point I had to read several times some of the sentences in order to decipher the message it was conveying.
I feel the beginning of the book needs to be work on, just a little more because it was just too much information out of the blue. Almost all descriptions, races, and names went right through my head. At the same time though, there's a lot of over-explanation that needs to be condensed and a repetitiveness where a thesaurus could help.
Pieces of dialogue/sentences that were redundant and could have use a little bit of more work:
"At first I put out an advert to advertise"
"I tasted her warm sweet taste"
In addition, a sentence suddenly changing from the first pov that we know from the very beginning, to a sentence from a third pov perspective around page 39 of the book (probably from a first draft):
"He folded his arms over his chest and nodded to her."
Lastly, some of these (I'm not sure what to call them):
“…” sometimes with exclamation and question marks. I think I have never read a book with these before but I'm not too sure. While I completely understand what it tries to deliver, I feel like a 'show don't tell' kind of approach would've worked better and give even more personality to the characters.
The spiciness could have used a little bit more of creativity and maybe even some foreplay here and there, but I wasn't too mad at it.
On the good side, I think the character's personalities and their relationship are the strongest appeal that this book has. While I didn't appreciate the FMC personality at the start, it was consistent from beginning to finish. I could even see myself reflected in her personality at times.
We could also see some character growth from both MC's which I love in any book, especially if some characters are difficult to like. We're human, (not you Dynast) we evolve and it's just really nice to see the differences between the MMC and the FMC that we got at the beginning versus how they became at the end.
I'll definitely read the sequel and I'm wishing nothing more than success to the next one.
The FMC was an awesome mix of strong, feisty, sassy, independent, intelligent, honest, empathetic, loyal and just real. Her reactions were realistic to her past and the situation she found herself in. Best of all, she wasn’t a whiny bitch to the MMC, and there weren’t any TSTL moments. (I really really hate bitchy, whiny, TSTL FMCs) I loved how she stepped in to confront others whenever she saw someone was being prejudiced against him and started supporting his role as Dynast in general. Her wonderful foul mouth fit her character and the situations she used that language in. I totally supported everything she said. I also loved how even as their relationship evolved her character only grew stronger as she became closer to the MMC, but the essence of her didn’t really change.
The MMC, yep the FMC was right, total cinnamon roll of a guy. Just the right touch of protective Alpha, without being an Alphahole. He really fits with a male you might find raised in a matriarchy—strong, tender when called for, and protective when needed. I like how their relationship progressed, and the descriptions of what the MMC looked like under the veil as well as the differences in anatomy and reproduction. It was just alien enough to drive home their differences. I loved how he fussed over her, mourned and raged and tried to keep it together when he thought her lost, and how as tough and independent as she was, she let him because she knew he liked doing so. I loved how he called her “My Queen”. It was reverent to the place he felt she was in his life and feelings. How he supported her and her dreams. He made for an awesome MMC. The author put forward an entertaining worthwhile read of a story. It ended on a HFN with hope for the future. We still have to find out what happened with her sister, but the MCs’ relationship and where it is going was discussed and settled. It was a good way to end this story and encourage you to read the next book. I hate cliffhangers, but this didn’t feel like that. It was a really good read.
Some clunky writing and too many infodumps, but the characters were appealing and the space opera setting was a lot of fun. Valerie's only hope for escaping her father's debts is signing up for a year of indentured servitude. Her sister signs up and is off to spend a year as a ship's accountant, while Valerie's offer is more unusual: spend a year as a walking bloodbank for a space vampire. Vrajan's species is the spooky boogyman of the galaxy but all they want now is an end to their exile so their people don't die off. (I do wonder how they evolved at all if they can't really feed off each other.)
Valerie is tough, curses like a sailor, and quick to anger. Vrajan is gentle, emotional, walks around veiled all the time, and weeps often. Together, they forge a new future for scary space vampires!
The heroine refers to the hero as "a cinnamon roll space Dracula". He is an alien race that requires blood to survive. She desperately needs money after her dad gambled everything away and bankrupted the family company where she works.
She signs up to feed the hero 3 times a day. They become friends first, then lovers. He is constantly making sure she eats properly, buys her new clothes, wants her to be happy with him.
The hero is an alien. So when he "finishes" he lays an un-fertilized egg inside her. His genitals also are a bit unusual but they both enjoy their intimate moments very much. There are steamy scenes.
The story also features the hero trying to get his species accepted in diplomatic channels and opening up trade. So there is some bigotry and protesters in the story.
So I read the sample and liked it so I bought it. I loved Valerie 's character but ... And correct me if I'm wrong . He was a sensitive female with a d*ck. When things got tough she got mad and kicked butt and he Cried, Sniffled and Teared up multiple times. Just say it's a female love story. I have no issues with lesbians, I do have an issue when you chicken out and put a d*ck on it. Shame, cause it would be been a good story if you'd spent more time developing his character instead of his sexuality . And as far as it goes...why did he stay hidden behind a chiffon robe/mask, yet other more hideous 2 faced and tentacled Aliens showed their faces?? I give 2 stars just for Valerie's character development, shame about his/hers.
This book started off great, but it just went on and on and on and didnt go anywhere until it picked up again around 75%.
Seriously needed a better editor to get rid of the constant duplication. And much as I love hot sexy times there were so many that I ended up skimming cos they were the same and ended up being boring.
Notwithstanding those two big issues I really enjoyed the plot esp the characterisation of vrajan, we're so used to alpha aliens and he wasn't - he cried, he was emotional, he was very different and that was refreshing as we don't get that that much nowadays.
With a good editor and more plot, more world building and less of the same sex scenes this book could easily be 4/5 stars.
Not giving a bad review cause it was horrible I was just not into how the writing was done…. Or style of writing. I felt like I was reading where the descriptions of the characters and the actions were mixed up. I felt like the male acted like the female and vice versa the other hole time. Even during and after sexual activity. I read blushing and giggling and excessive crying and more the feminine norm with mannerisms, was all the MMC. While the FMC was the one having to take male actions and emotions and mannerisms. It’s not my thing since I was constantly confused but this could be a normal for others and something.
1st time reading this author and I definitely would again. This book was far different than any others out there which immediately got my interest. The whole cinnamon roll thing I wasn't feeling cause to be honest he came across more like a scared wimp than a just a sweet guy- I didn't fully care for that as I like my guys to be more manly not cower and weep over someone thinking they're ugly. I see other reviewers saying he was a chick with a dick and you know what? that kinda fits - oops! but either way I liked the story and look forward to the next book in the series.
I was pleasantly surprised by how much I ended up enjoying this book. The MMC is a complete cinnamon roll. The FMC is sassy but tough, not afraid to stand up for her man. I really enjoyed this. I hope there are other stories of the bonding between feeding companions and their "space vampires". The spice was off the charts eventually and actually had a great plot! I highly recommend this book.
Has a lovely balance of being quite funny and entertaining but that edge of romance. The smut is smutting!!!! The author has a really engaging style of writing, quite witty and fresh. Really lovely Valerie and her lovely Korvis. It was really interesting to read about a character that is so scary looking but inside is absolute mush. It was a really enjoyable read.
I happened by this book by accident. I love books that are different and unique. This one had it all and I just loved it. I sure hope there will be more in this series. I also like that the female lead is strong and the male lead is so caring. Might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it was definitely mine 🥰
interesting plot and world with mediocre to poor execution. i cannot imagine how this book could have been edited even once with all the tense shifts (sometimes mid-sentence) and typos. also, maybe it’s a british thing, but this author ended way more sentences in question marks than seemed appropriate.
I really wanted to like this book. The storyline was pretty good and I liked the concept, although it went off the rails toward the end. The writing itself, though, was just so, so rough. This book needs a seriously good editor to save it from itself. Also, the FMC was not the most likable character - lots of monologuing.
I f’ing love this book!! This was a re-read for me. The romance between our two leads is so sweet. I’m a huge fan of Millie Lowelle’s books. I don’t understand why she isn’t more well known. Every book of her’s is a banger and always hits. Highly recommend!!
repeated phrases, confusion and list ticking…oh my
This book was just okay. This list ticking was annoying and soured the story. Also in the same chapter the words “in the meantime” was way too overused.
I loved this book! Valerie is the best heroine and I absolutely loved the Dynast. I have been wanting to read something different, this book knocked my expectations out of the park. I can’t wait for more to come!
The story had me hooked immediately. Valerie is so honest with her feelings. The nature of the Korvian race is so misunderstood. I enjoyed the romance and oh so spicy developments. I truly did not want the book to end.
This story was amazing! I loved the world building we've had so far in this book, and look forward to seeing more of it. I would have preferred a longer epilog, for when the FMC meets the MCs family. But over all amazing story!
I loved this book so much and can't wait for the next! Vraj is almost too nice, but he is just a perfect cinnamon roll. I desperately want to know what happens with Cassie and can't wait for more from this series!
