The Sixth Demon #4

The Sixth Demon: Book Four

Rate this book
The Fae Queen and the ruler of the Demon Council can agree on one thing. They want a war to end all wars, and they'll flatten anyone who gets in their way.

They've already crushed the demon spymaster Nigellus, while angel Neveah Lane barely escaped into hiding with her lover's ragtag group of friends and allies. The three realms are in danger of collapsing into chaos as political tensions that have been simmering beneath the surface for centuries erupt into all-out conflict.

In many ways, Nigellus has always been a cold-blooded, manipulative, underhanded bastard. He's also loyal, courageous, self-sacrificing, and quite possibly the love of Neveah's cursed immortal life. With reality crumbling around them, can she and the others rescue him from the heart of the enemy's stronghold, and somehow stop the madness before it descends into unimaginable cataclysm?

Find out in the exciting conclusion to The Last Vampire saga!

USA Today bestselling author R. A. Steffan lives in New Mexico, where the sunsets paint the mountains purple, and roadrunners roam the desert endlessly in search of their coyote victims. When she’s not busy writing stories about people loving each other in all sorts of different and interesting ways, she can be found taking care of her small menagerie of critters.

A rebel to the core, she is currently sticking it to the man by illegally harvesting graywater from the kitchen and bathroom sinks to water trees outside. This fearless disregard for societal norms extends to her writing, as well. There, you will find polyamory along with straight, gay, bisexual, and non-gender conforming love of all flavors. You will also find families of choice, profound friendships, adventure, danger, and good triumphing over evil.

That, and sex. Lots of sex. Most of which is not the vanilla variety.

My review is written voluntarily after listening to the audio version of this book.

I finished listening to this book four days ago and since then have attempted to write my review several times but each time I've deleted it as it just gave too much away. So I'm going to attempt to write a non-spoiler review. Here goes:

Having devoured every word in all 17 books in The Last Vampire World, I can’t believe that this amazing series has come to an end. Fortunately, I have all 17 books in my audio library and will, I’m sure, listen to all of them again. The author continues to give us more insight into Nigellus and allows us to see his softer side, yes this Demon of Fate does have a softer side!

This final book picked up where Book 16 left off with that critically shocking cliffhanger. This series must be read or listened to in the order they were written to fully understand and enjoy the wonderful world the author has created for us. The world-building and descriptive writing make her books so wonderful to listen to, especially with the excellent narration of Gwendolyn Druyor who has done an outstanding job on almost all of Ms Stefan's books as you will find if you decide to listen that she has made these fascinating characters, so well drawn by the author, her own bringing them to life and making them seem so real.

As already said I don't want to give spoilers, this series has so many shocking surprises after all, and to tell you any of them in advance would totally destroy any chance you have of enjoying this wonderful book/series.

What I will say is this series has had me holding my breath, too many times to count since I first made the acquaintance of Ransley Thorpe in 2018. Nigellus has been a constant character throughout the whole series. Firstly through his soul bond with Ransley, then Zora and his wonderful ever-present human servant Edward and ultimately, Len Grayson the human necromancer. But he has formed lasting and meaningful relationships with almost everyone in this series, for a Demon he's surprisingly good!

On first meeting him, he was something of an enigma and during this series, I have enjoyed getting to know him better. I love his vulnerability and the connection he has formed with the angel Shemasiel aka Neneagh Lane, two more opposite characters you could not hope to meet and yet they are perfect for each other. Although I do admit that at times I wondered if they would both survive and achieve a future together.

Their story has been about their battle to defeat the Mad Fae Queen and free humanity, the Fae and the Demon realm from her clutches. To find out if or how they achieve this you will need to listen to or read this book for yourself because I'm not saying, what I will say is that this book brings a fitting end to a wonderful series.

I'm going to miss this world!

The end

Last book in this 17 book series (thought it was 18) anyway it was a wonderful journey loved the characters friendships it was 6 months ago I read the book before the last one but was easy to pick up again.lots happen in this series lots of twists and turns don't know who to trust then they end up being best friends.lots of romantic love interests within the Scooby gang.vampires are at war with fae again and so are the demons but not all fae are bad so a long out war is going from beginning of series to the end.
I wonder if there will be a Angel series and a cameo from the only Angel on earth? After all the angels only had a cameo in these series apart from one.

The mark down is because of all the open sex in previously books it felt misplaced and out of character for some it was much less in later books. (Thankfully) would of like more fun banter and humour then lust.
But saying that this series is a great read original storyline.

This series is about Ran the only last vampire but really the demon who bonded him to save his life is just as important and is in it more the Ran at the end personally I think it's about nigellus finding a way to end the war and using his noble friends who he can trust to help with that.(even if they didn't think of him as a friend) like I said a interesting storyline with complex characters after all most are over 700 years old.(should of been more funny moments)

☆☆☆☆☆ Satisfying ☆☆☆☆☆
That's the word that came to mind when I finished. Everything about this book is satisfying. The rescues, the power use, the wins, and the love

It's the type of book you find yourself rereading a page because something so cool or terrifying happened. You need to make sure you read that right.
Or you can see something is about to happen that you know you want to give all your attention to soaking in, so you double-check your surroundings and book reading shields to minimise disturbance 🧐

It's been a hell of a series, although I wished there were more spicy moments instead of 1 per book. It didn't take away from the story, so it's just my smutty self who craves more.

“...face was still an alarming shade of pale...” This reminded me of “Whiter shade of pale” from the song by Procol Harum. Easily sidetracked? Moi? Non.

Aren’t demons fallen angels? Why would their magic be different?

“Is there any further word on Typhon?” Nigellus gave a careless shrug. “He is recovering slowly from his injury, but he will be considerably weakened for some time.” How could Typhon survive with his heart in the Pacific ocean? Did someone retrieve it?

Well, this story wrapped up in a nice, neat package with a cherry on top. All of the main characters survived and will go on to live HEA.

An exciting and emotional finale to this series. As with all the books in the Last Vampire world, the plot is exciting and keeps the reader engaged throughout. Beautiful worldbuilding and as always deep and emotional characters that really do capture your heart. I will miss these guys and the whole series is a definite must for a future reread. I recommend to any fan of PNR books.
