"SURE. THE MOMENT I FIND SOMETHING I WANT TO BE, I'LL BE SURE TO COME TO YOU." Shinonome, a Tsukumogami, runs the spirit realm's only bookstore with his daughter, Kaori, who happens to be a different species entirely. Now, the spirit and human father-daughter pair are faced with decisions that will change the course of their lives forever. Prepare to laugh, cry, and go through a rollercoaster of emotions with the conclusion of this heartwarming tale of the spirit realm!
Kaori and Shinoname stand at a turning point in their lives and they have to make some hard choices in the process. To help, Shinoname finally tells his own story, where he comes from and what his dreams are. The mermaid meat seller is tentatively involved, and as a result we do get his own tragic story (even though he himself does not see it as such).
As in previous volumes, the book gives some great imagery of the world Kaori lives in, solid character development well told, focussing more on the characters that matter to the series and as in the previous volumes the themes of family (and it importance), fatherhood and mortality. All in all, a great ending to series even if we still get a v7 with short stories (at least according to the author in the afterword).
I discovered this series seeing the cover of the first novel staring at me from the shelf of a favorite bookstore after reading the title, seeing the cover and reading the back cover synopsis, I fell in love with that book and it just grew as I read it and as the series came out.
Now here we are at vol 6 and it's the end or close to it as the next is a set of short stories to close the series out. And I can't help but cry, cry that it's over, cry that it was such a good book and series, cry at the events of the story which will cry if you love these characters. I will miss the haunted bookstore and all the characters that dwell inside it.
A fitting conclusion to the series. Actually, it's not the conclusion, there is short story collection, and tells the characters actions after the ending. It's a time of change, the bookstore is getting ready to change hands and Kaori has to learn how to manage the store, while Shinonome tries to finish his life's work.
I loved this series, it made me cry a few times, and laugh often. The final volume gives it a great ending, and a fitting conclusion. I will have to check out the author's other works.
Wow...what an ending to a beautiful story. I found this series by accident, because I'm drawn to stories about libraries and bookstores and I recently started pursuing Graphic Novels. this popped up because there is also a Manga version. I opted for the non manga version because I wanted to experience this authors writing in more detail. I am so glad I did. It has surpassed my expectations in so many ways. I've been spreading my wings and venturing into books by new authors (new to me) and different types of story telling. The Haunted Bookstore series was just lovely!
Oh my heart, you will definitely cry with this conclusion. It says get ready to laugh in the synopsis, and yes, there are some funny moments, but I mostly cried happy and sad tears. I loved it! I also can't wait for the collection of short stories to come out in the English translation, at least, I hope it will come out in the English translation. I really want more from this world.
I’ll admit that I only started this series because of the beautiful covers. I didn’t think i would enjoy it this much. it has some flaws, but there are so many other things i like about it.
the backstories are very complex and the characters are so likable and relatable. Definitely a good read, especially if you like literature, Japanese myths, and love stories of all kinds.
