CGS New York Rescue #1

Discovering Tyler

Rate this book
Tyler is a hardworking rescue firefighter with the FDNY. He’s battled through war and walls of flames, but he’s never contended with a woman’s heart. Until Madison. All bets are off when he sees her again at a Veteran’s gala. It doesn’t matter that she’s the opposite of every other woman he’s been attracted to because she is his. When he helps her through a panic attack and she returns the favor by staying with him, he thinks he’s got her. But he wakes up alone and finds she’s fled with no forwarding address.

Madison struggles every day with the demons of war. PTSD is pulling her under, and she can’t fight it anymore. She decides to head to the Refuge, a place a friend suggested to help her deal with her waking nightmares and learn how her new body works. But she didn’t count on her one-night stand being associated with the Refuge. And now that he’s here and wants to help her, she can’t fight the attraction she has for him.

But little do they know a common enemy has followed them and wants his revenge. Madison will have to overcome her fears and fight for herself, while Tyler attempts to rescue them both before the flames get too close.

I really enjoyed reading this book. This was such an interesting story and it had all of my attention. I really liked the mix of suspense, personal discovery and romance that was found in this book.

I really liked how a lot of the book was focused on Madison and her journey to dealing with her trauma. I really enjoyed reading all about that and I found myself so invested in her story and I kept cheering her on, hoping that she would get everything that she deserves out of life.

I really loved the romance in this one. They both fell for each other pretty quickly and a lot of the book is just them finding their way other and fingering out how perfect for each other they are. And I really enjoyed reading all about that. I also adored seeing how their story developed over time and I loved seeing their romance. It was very sweet, and it really worked for me.

This was such an interesting reading experience, and I had a very good time with this one. And I’m excited to see where this series goes in the future.

I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest opinion.

As much as I enjoyed the characters and their development I found this book so confusing.

I know it's part of a universe but so many characters were thrown in, having a significant influence in the couple's story and I can't find which book they relate. A lot was written also for Tyler's family and I found it very intriguing. I liked the twist in the story but I got mad because it was so interesting to read about it and perhaps this is already in another book but still I couldn't find any information. So there was so much background story but we were only provided snippets.

Another thing that I found annoying was the time jumps between scenes. One moment they were in the car and in next sentence they had already moved inside the house..

And it's really a pity because the character development and the struggles and all the suffering were really well written.

The plot of this book starts in Jackson and Morgan’s book and continues in this one. I wanted Madison’s book and this one did not disappoint. Madison has a lot of things to deal with, then she meets Tyler aka TNT. Sparks fly! I absolutely loved them together and Tyler has a surprising connection to someone in another book. But I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

First of all, I can’t imagine going through what Madison did and on top of it all losing her arm below the elbow. So much appreciation for what our military does every day. I wish there were endless resources for those working through PTSD and coming back to civilian life after experiencing things that the rest of us can only imagine…or read about in a book like this.
I thought the author was really respectful of the ‘coming home’ process and made it all sound very realistic to what I imagine many service men and women experience. There are tons of military men in romance books…its’ probably one of the more common tropes but it was really nice to have a woman represented in this story.
Now on to the book. It was pretty much insta-love on his part and a more wary, ‘afraid she’s going to break him with her damage’ kind of care on her part. He makes her feel calmer but that isn’t what she needs. She needs to work it out for herself and be enough on her own.
I feel like so much is just brushed over in this book. I haven’t read any of the Susan Stoker books of this same world and so I have no background for the characters from that series. I’m sure it wasn’t important for reading this book but the author mentions SO many characters and I really started to lose track of who was who. There really wasn’t a lot of background or context given for so many characters and situations in the story. Tyler, for example, is a part of a dark organization. I won’t say more for spoilers sake but it wouldn’t even be a spoiler because saying he’s in this organization, and the conversations and characters associated with that, had absolutely nothing to do with the story in this book. It’s not elaborated upon, and it changed nothing.
The synopsis had me thinking there was going to be some major plot point about someone coming after her, but he’s barely mentioned throughout the book and then this apparent climax that we’re building towards (according to the synopsis) is thrown into the very last chapter, though I’d honestly forgotten about his character since he hadn’t been mentioned in a while. Now don’t get me wrong, the chapter was exciting, but it just wasn’t the major plot point it was made out to be.
This book is about one woman’s journey to healing after something truly horrible happened to her. I wish that she could have found it for herself but the line “that because of him I chose to live” tells me she needed a man to want to be better. Idk.
I cared more about her discovering herself. She does in the end, but it feels like it’s because he ‘saved’ her. Tyler is a wonderful character and I really liked him, but I wanted her to want it for herself. The story was pretty well written. I’d give it 2-3 stars for steam, and I give it 2 thumbs up for a great epilogue that shows us great details of their HEA.

What a touching story! Two people have went through some traumatic events. Madison has PTSD and moments of blaming herself for what happened. She isn’t looking for anyone to date. Tyler works as a firefighter, who works with her sister, and isn’t looking for a relationship. Her sister has a coworker who is a little crazy. Wait til you see what he has to do with this story. Her mom is just psycho after what happened to her husband. Such a sad tragedy. She is always on the warpath. When they meet, it seems like Tyler may be ready for a relationship. He sees something in Madison that makes him want to get to know her. Madison is definitely guarded. They do share some moments where it seems Madison may be open to something more with Tyler. After something happens to her sister, she decides to leave, to get some help, and not tell anyone where she is going. Will this help her move on with her life? Will she be able to fully let Tyler in? Can they both have a happily ever after? This book was definitely a page turner and well worth the read!

Tyler is a hard-working rescue fighter with the FDNY and is also a veteran. He has no plans for a relationship, until he met the sister of a co-worker. He knew that their father was an FDNY fighter as well during the 9/11 attacks.

Madison’s life has been full of a lot of tragedy and pain. When her military career ends in tragedy, she struggles a lot through her life now and finds that she needs to get away from her sister and NY to heal, otherwise the worst could happen.

I really liked this book. Tyler and Madison both know what each is going through and the pain and tragedy that they’ve both been through. When Madison finally gives into Tyler, for one night, he’s crushed to find that she left and gave no indication that she was leaving town. This was a tragic and emotional story, but it was beautifully written. I really liked it and give it a 4-star review.

An engaging and emotionally gripping story that kept me hooked from start to finish. The blend of suspense, personal growth, and romance was perfectly balanced, making this a truly good read.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 (4.5/5)
🔥 🔥 (2/5)

Madison’s journey of healing and overcoming her trauma was the heart of the story, and I found myself deeply invested in her growth, rooting for her every step of the way. Her strength and resilience made her such a powerful character, and I loved how Tyler supported her without overshadowing her need for independence. Their relationship was beautifully written—filled with love, patience, and undeniable chemistry. I especially enjoyed seeing the characters make an appearance from The Refuge Series by Susan Stoker. It was great to see the perspective from a "guest" than from the owners.

So so good!!!!

Madison was injured while in the service and can't let it go. Tyler had some bad things happen in his past also that he needs to resolve.
Madison takes down a guy who touches her. He doesn't like women at all. He takes his anger out on Madison's sister.
Tyler and Madison are getting to know each other really well, or so he thought, until she disappeared.
Madison finally ends up at the Refuge. She thought she was doing good then had a major set back.
Tyler is at the Refuge with her. They are working through their pasts. Tyler wakes up, and she isn't there.
While on a hike, Madison is in trouble. Who is after her?

Well written storyline about suffering from PTSD. This has danger, an unstable mother and finding love when you least expect it.

Tyler is a firefighter with FDNY. His nickname from his teammates is TNT. He was a CB in the Navy. After hiding from his past he decides to deal with the issues for Madison.

Madison suffers from PTSD from, her time being an MP in the military. To deal with this her friend suggested she go to the Refuge. She knows she needs to go away in order for her to heal.

This is the first book that I have read from this author but I will definitely be reading more.
Both Madison and Tyler have been through a lot in their pasts and both are suffering with it but they are drawn to each other.
I love that Tyler is the calm that Madison needs when her PTSD is in full flow but she feels that she is not worthy of him and knows that she needs help so she leaves. But her past is coming for her.
Will Tyler be able to find her in time to help save her. Loved the ending.

Oh my goodness!!! I have waited for Tyler AKA TNT’s story since we met him in a previous story and to say I wasn’t disappointed is an understatement. The unadulterated sorrow and sadness in Tyler and Madison’s story is truly incredible and yet adoringly beautiful as well. Madison has demons that make her feel unworthy of love or happiness and Tyler feels he doesn’t deserve to be happy due to being broken. Their souls collide to make one hell of a story and I wouldn’t want it written any other way. Outstanding job E.M. Can’t wait to see who’s story is next!!!

Takes the reader on a journey of self-discovery

Madison, an Army MP, met Tyler, a firefighter, when she visited her sister at the fire station her sister works. As the story progresses they meet again, she feels her past closing in, and when all the chips fall maybe no one will win. Discovering Tyler takes the reader on a journey of self-discovery right along with the characters. I am excited to read the rest o the spinoff series from the author’s Caine & Graco series.

I received a free copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.

This was a great story. Each Tyler and Madison both had many scars, both physical and mental ones, from there past , and they both thought they didn't deserve love. When they met each other they helped the other heal from those scars and find happiness. I loved this story. It was emotional, uplifting, and had me hooked from the beginning. Definitely a recommended read. I received a review copy of this story and am leaving a voluntary honest review.

This book is another great action romance! Both Madison and Tyler are in the process of healing from past traumas. Neither are looking for a long term relationship. They both have enough to deal with and there’s other outside challenges complicating matters for both of them as well. But the instant attraction they have is hard to ignore. Will they recover and triumph over it all? Will they decide love is worth being vulnerable to another person?

🦾❤️‍🩹Platonic connections, gimme more.

🦾❤️‍🩹I think many books in this series are taking place at the same time. It's ok if you don't give a f about them but I'm nosy🙃 and those half informations are bugging me.

🦾❤️‍🩹Madison says she doesn't want to be treated like nothing changed and she's same as before but we see whenever someone treats her like that she appreciates it. So.....

🦾❤️‍🩹I'm kinda disappointed that Madison didn't take Lyle down.

I LOVE these characters. Madison and Tyler, connect for what seems like a moment, then it's not so clear anymore. Tough topics touched upon, some, if not all, very common. Everyone needs help, even the strongest person. It's a journey to find yourself, and it needs to be I before "we". Very touching reading about Tyler's past as well. Loved The Refuge as well. A very sweet epilogue. This book makes me smile.

Madison and Tyler steal you away with their story. I loved that these two finally get their time to shine. A story that holds you captive from start to finish. I really liked how things progressed gradually. Overcoming fears, action, love, suspense, and opposites attract are just some things that I liked about this book. An excellent story with a great storyline and wonderful characters.

This book was different. Different in a good way! So many times you read stories where the male lead is the war hero missing a limb, it was refreshing to have the female lead be a war hero with a prosthetic. PTSD will bring Tyler and Madison together, love will mend their broken souls forever. It’s a story filled with real life issues and relatable characters. Definitely worth the read!

Wow the way the author describes PTSD pulled at my heart strings . Madison has severed our country and lost a limb but the emotional journey was described so well that I cried with her story. Tyler so wants to protect her and his past also affects his present and future . They as broken and so drawn to each other . I love the action and characters from this book .

This story was an emotional roller coaster for me. I have known many people, both military and non-military, that suffer from PTSD and the accurate depiction of the daily struggle of those with severe PTSD was heart wrenching. As always, E.M. Shue delivers an amazing story with wonderful characters. I highly recommend this book.

This was an emotional, sweet and touching story.

Madison and Tyler had my heart in a vice right from the start and I didn’t want to let them go in the end. Both Madison and Tyler have broken and damaging pasts that continue to affect them, but together they work through the darkness and the storms.

I loved this story. It was beautifully written and definitely emotionally charged.

The PTSD struggle is real with Madison. She needs help, but in her mind she has to do this all on her own. She cannot drag down the ones that mean the most to her.
In walks Tyler. He is her shoulder, her protector, her confidant. She just has to realize that accepting help is ok. He has his own history that he has to overcome and needs Madison just as much as she needs him.
I loved this book!

I like it brings awareness to PTSD that our soldiers face everyday. Madison is no exception, especially after what she went through. Tyler has an interesting background. The story kept me interested all the way through the book. There's danger, suspense and the service dogs are pretty cool. HEA.
