"A well rounded psychological thriller that is full of detail to make the reader question their theory." ~nerdywordyreviews

Teacher's Pet is a mind-boggling story that brings the past forward to the present. In 1962, students of a well-known school gather to pull the ultimate prank. One that will shame those who have treated them so poorly into apologizing and recognizing the damages caused. A harmless prank, or so they thought. It turns out that the student who arranged the prank had another idea in mind. This other idea turned into an absolute mess.
Thirty years later, the prank gone horribly wrong is still unsolved. A mystery of great depths that police and community have never solved.
William, a police officer, is suddenly being accused of these dreadful crimes and can not understand who would frame him or why. He knows nothing of the past situation or the people involved. William places himself on the run in his hometown in an attempt to find the answers he seeks in order to clear his name. As he uncovers his investigation, what truths will the investigation reveal and will he find the proof he is looking for?

Teacher's Pet is a well-written and planned psychological thriller by Lauren Ilbury. It is full of descriptive narrative which aids the storyline along. However, because of how detailed and descriptive it is, it can seem to move slower when reading.
Teacher's Pet fills itself with twisted and unexplainable situations, revealing them gradually throughout your reading experience and finally revealing everything in the end. The narrator introduces the reader on various ways, creating challenges in reaching accurate conclusions. The list of suspects will frequently change, which is desirable when reading a thriller.
I enjoyed this book, the storyline and the twists. I think it would make for a faster read if there was more dialogue throughout the book, but the detail within the narrative allows the reader to picture themselves within the story.

Four boys, a harmless prank, two murders, and three lives changed forever. The last day of school signalled the beginning of the 6-week summer break for students at the Westview Secondary School for Boys. However, for Elijah, Mason, Jacob, and Ethan, the bells' last ring was their anticipated queue. Spearheaded by Elijah, the boys decided to pull a prank on one of their teachers. They would kidnap her, put her into a cupboard and leave her there for a few minutes before letting her out. It was planned out to the last detail and seemed failproof. But when nerves go frail and emotions topple over, unexpected truths are revealed, and the boys are forced to make a haunting decision that would alter their lives forever. Teacher's pet by Lauren Ilbury is a chilling psychological thriller that will keep you on edge, earnestly hanging unto every word.

This book follows the events that occur decades after the prank incident, and as more characters come into the scene, the reader is instantly tasked with finding out the roles they might have played in the events of almost three decades ago. As most psychological thrillers go, the mind is the author's playground, and the story is never complete without an unexpected twist that leaves the reader gob-smacked. Readers should expect a similar experience with this book. An experience that keeps their mind whirling in a constant attempt to provide answers.

The author did start slow and steady, gradually leading readers into the plot. This was successful as a result of their writing style. It was simple, descriptive and incredibly vivid, leaving no room for confusion or lag. The character development in this book is impeccable, and with a story like this was essential in piecing its elements together. Every character was explored in-depth, exposing their flaws and perceptions and allowing readers to understand fully the ‘why’ and ‘how’ behind their thoughts and actions. You could picture Marilyn's loud and almost irrational attitude or Tammy's soft but no-nonsense demeanour. I was genuinely impressed at how the author did that, given that this book contained many characters. This book is also written from several point of views, aiding comprehension.

I always like to think I'm good at figuring out plot twists, but with this book, I couldn't have possibly guessed the outcome. I liked that I could not figure anything out until the author wanted me to. Readers are fed mini surprises and cliffhangers throughout the book that keep you hooked, the characters are endearing, and one would find themselves building a connection with them.

I did feel that the book stretched on for too long, having over 700 pages in its pdf version, and sometimes I found myself labouring through some pages. I also found a few errors at the beginning of the book; the name 'Mason' was misspelt as 'Jason' severally. Nonetheless, this book would get a solid 4 out of 5-star rating from me. I marked it down by one for the reasons stated above. I would gladly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good murder mystery book or is intrigued by psychology and how it affects human behavior.

Teacher's Pet by Lauren Ilbury is a psychological thriller set in an academy. The story had an interesting start, with a prank gone wrong hitting the readers with the right amount of thrill. Although the author tests your patience as the story moves too slowly, But the plot is not like in common thrillers. It has a past and a present. I enjoyed the book a lot. The characters were a lot easier to understand, except Will. He was a bit tough and secretive. For me, the book broke some stereotypes about thriller writing styles. Definitely, the book deserves 4 stars.

Teacher's Pet is a freaky psychological thriller/suspense/mystery/horror that delves into a prank gone awry in 1962 and its repercussions three decades later. William, a police officer, is accused for this unsolved prank and must flee to prove his innocence. The story has twisty turns, obstacles to figure out for the truth, and well-crafted characters. The twist kept me guessing and the finally was cool. I enjoyed the story and I recommend it.
