DESTINY STRIKES YOUR FAVORITE X-MEN DUO! Krakoa is on a precipice. Destiny alone can see what’s coming – but the precog cannot act. For that, she’ll need her adoptive daughter, Rogue. Husbands need not apply…but with mutant duties stealing Rogue away so much these days, Gambit is determined to make the most of the mission and put some Cajun spice back into their increasingly complicated love affair. He just has to make it out of the bar first. Powerhouse writer Stephanie Phillips (Harley Quinn, Wonder Woman, Millie the Spy) joins fan-favorite artist Carlos Gómez (X-Terminators, Amazing Spider-Man) for a thrill ride that’ll lay bare some of Krakoa’s biggest secrets!

Eh. Okay.

Did someone think that the previous Rogue and Gambit miniseries was somehow a good thing? Because someone has been trying for a tone with these two characters that I'm just not sure works. Something half-comedic and self-deprecating.

Does anyone even know what Rogue's default power levels are, at this point? I started reading comics during the period where she had Ms. Marvel's powers permanently. I was proud of myself for reading the miniseries where she absorbed Sunfire's powers permanently, so I wasn't caught by surprise when she started using them in X-titles for a few years afterward. I know about the brief period where she had permanently absorbed Mystique's powers. I actually kind of missed where she absorbed Wonder Man's powers, but I read a summary about it afterward. And then in Kelly Thompson's Rogue & Gambit series from a few years back, we learned Rogue is now godlike and can absorb a person's powers --and, seemingly, personality too-- from a distance. Without any trouble.

Can Rogue still fly whenever she wants to?

This issue doesn't talk about Rogue's current power set at all. She is just inexplicably wearing her 90s costume, while Gambit is wearing a modified version of his 90s costume, to go on a mission just because Destiny told her to. Until recently, the last time Rogue had seen Destiny, Destiny was a member of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. But, sure. She's just going to take what her adopted mom says on faith.

I can't believe I'm saying this... But I actually liked a current X-Men book! Haha! But in all seriousness (considering I've hated a lot of the current story lines and runs in the X-Men universe), this first issue was pretty fun. AND I DIDNT NEED A LOT OF EXPOSITION TO UNDERSTAND WHATS GOING ON. Nice. Let's hope the rest of the series is good.

Poor characterization, flat plot, cringe dialogue. Stars for the art, keep it from being a 1 star review.

It was a good start. Gambit & Rogue are a personal favorite and always have been. The whole story of this made me happy, just to have this "check in" with them.

I haven't followed any of the new X-Men comics but Rogue & Gambit seem to be a universal constant (Magneto being the exception).
The opening is weak, but the Rogue Remy banter is entertaining.
Let's hope the next issue picks up the pace.
