When it became evident that the four books were overlapping and intertwined, I decided to read all four before writing my reviews. The stories take place in the Chosen Universe though there is little reference to the fact.
Welcome to Mistletoe Falls where Solstice and Christmas are the town’s raison d’etre. The MCs, all sprites, only know that magic has been waning in the human realm. When four newcomers arrive in Mistletoe Falls within a two week stretch and start interacting with our MCs, the spite’s magic begins to manifest itself in strange ways. (Did no one from the larger Universe ever think to let the guys in on the knowledge that Fated Mates are happing all over?)
Each book is primarily about one couple, but we get glimpses of other interactions throughout, and those hints of what’s to come are explored in future books as seen through the eyes of those MCs.
Nyall:
At first I was puzzled by the tone of the book, as it is nowhere near as serious as the other books from this universe. So. Many. Christmas. Puns. Nyall runs the local bakery, Mistledough and meets reporter Aaron who wants to do a story on the unusual town. Spark fly (literally) and the two feel the trope known as insta-love. I usually roll my eyes at the notion, but magic makes their mutual attraction.
Oberon:
Sprite Oberon is the town handyman, and is hired to help the new local vet, Miles Lane and his adorably cheerful daughter (through surrogacy), Holly and their puppy, Ivy. This is probably my favorite of the four books. The chemistry feels more organic in this one for me.
Eldon:
Sprite Eldon owns the local holiday/craft store Deck the Walls. It’s next door to the now closed (and sold) Snowda Shoppe. In this story we get to know the unnamed man from earlier as Tate. Tate has secrets of his own, and he loves to tease Eldon. Somehow there snarky flirtation grows though neither can really understand why. (It’s magic, duh).
Linus:
Linus owns and runs the Tinseled Inn, the B&B in town. He’s highly dramatic and oblivious to the chaos he creates (which I found annoying). When Tate’s BFF, Colby comes to town. He and Linus don’t exactly hit it off, but little by little as Linus drops his bravado and let’s Colby know what’s really in his heart, the two find a kindred sense of unity.
This story gets bonus points for the cameo at the end, which I will not spoil.
All in all, the series is fluffy and fun. VERY low angst and rather adorable. They make a welcome (if tonally different) addition to the Chosen One Universe.
