Abbs Valley #1

Riches to Riches: Part One

Rate this book
When Dad died, he made me the leader of the Italian Mafia. That position was unheard of for a woman until me.

Ryder, Dex, Gage, and Holden are my team, my closest friends. Then Leo waltzes into my life, turning it upside down, along with everyone in it.

One lie. One secret.

That's all it took to bring it all burning down around me. Jealousy and hidden desires from the four guys I thought only saw me as a friend and their Boss stoke the flames even higher.

With a new guy in my life, four guys vying for my affection, a past flame that refuses to be blown out, and threats lurking in every corner; I have to fight like hell to come out of the fire alive.

Especially since I have a secret of my own.

** Riches To Riches is Part One of a duet and will end on a cliffhanger. It's a reverse harem/polyamorous romance intended for mature readers only. The FMC doesn't choose between love interests and there is male/male relationships/content. It's set in a fictional city in California, Abbs Valley, and will be the first of this world with more to come. Be sure to check the content/trigger warnings in the front of the book before proceeding.

I couldn’t get past the writing. I wanted to like this one so badly because the blurb and the story was interesting. There was supposed to be a badass FMC, a Mafia boss. But we got a girl playing dress-up, and the drama was high school level at best. Really hate how all women are portrayed as catty and jealous. And this was just super unbelievable. I actually stopped in the middle of a sex scene, so that should tell you something 🥲

“I love you, Pretty girl. Something in your dark soul calls to mine, and it quiets my mind. Around you, I can just…be.”

does Ames Mills have a formula? yes. does this formula work for me every. single. time? also yes.

this is a thick book and i was worried about it dragging but it never did. the plot is lost somewhere in outer space, i wont ask questions cause the characters are 100% where it’s at. i loved Alessa, she gets shit done and still manages to balance her more softer side with the pressure of her position. all the men: Gage, Leo, Ryder, Holden, Dex and Zane had me on the floor. Gage is my favorite (if you know me, this won’t be a surprise), but i also really loved Holden and Leo. i’m hoping to get more of Zane in the sequel cause im very much looking respectfully. i was eating up the side m/m romances just as much as the main ones with Alessa. let me tell you, nobody writes steamy scenes better than Ames Mills, if you disagree.. argue with the wall. i had so much fun reading this and i always appreciate the way the author writes such supportive characters who love eachother through everything, especially their individual traumas.

“I love you, Alessa.” He shakes his head. “I’m in love with you. You’re my everything. My brightness in the darkness. My savior. My soul. My heart. My life. And I’m done fucking hiding. I love you.”

There were so many errors. If you're selling a product you might want to make sure you're providing a quality product. Read on KU wouldn't have been happy if I bought it.

What an awesome debut book! Usually I don't address other reviews but some of them are very petty. Is this book perfect? No. However it's a first time author and every one has to start somewhere. I loved the characters and how the plot developed. I'm very interested to see where things go in book two!
Highly recommend! It's got smoking hot chemistry and the sexy times are A+

DNF@43%. I do not plan on trying to read it again, so I specifically marked it as 'finished' since I wasted 2 days of reading time with this thing
NOTE: I read this after this was 'professionally edited. Please keep that in mind.
additional note: this review will be long. I'm sorry. I hate this book.

Plot:0/5 (wtf is this story)
Spice: 4/5 (MM, MF, Multiples, 'mmmmmfm')

The elephant in the room.. the editing
I'm not usually a person to get upset about errors in a book. Since I'm on kindle I kind of expect them. Weird formatting, missing spaces, little typos. They happen. I generally just report them to kindle and move on. There were so many in this book I stopped doing that and started to wonder about the "this has been professionally edited" and if the author should get their money back. I found numerous instances of missing words, odd paragraph breaks that didn't go away when I adjusted my font/type size. Other mention grammar issues, I'm not a proofer so I don't see those, but considering the number of sentences that just didn't make sense, I'm not surprised. This always took me right out of the book, and then I was trouble shooting OR trying to figure out what was supposed to be said.

But the spice?
The spice was the only part of this book that I wasn't fucking raging at. Starts out like a normal-ish RH. MF and then more and then more and then more. Scenes are described well enough. TBH I think these might be the only parts that were actually looked at by an editor. There are a lot of scenes. Like just about every chapter after a set point, but that's kind of typical for most RH. I didn't organically read to the point where we get to all the dudes and the FMC, but I kipped ahead to read snippets when I decided to DNF and it basically becomes a train. Which, y'all if you like that, cool fucking shit, go you. But I kept having to reread because I couldn't figure out peoples positioning. It's a pet peeve, but I hate it when a character was 'standing by the lamp post' and then in a line or two you get 'he stands from the chair'. It felt like the author didn't even know where they were and maybe that was something that was removed for editing because it wasn't needed. But it irks me. So much.

Was the plot that bad?
OMFG. look, I have ADHD and I can switch fucking topics and trains of thought so fast your head can spin. It felt like whiplash with the storylines. I have no idea if any of them resolve and honestly, I don't want to know. There were so many inconsistencies.

To be honest, the plot wasn't the real problem with this book, it was how the characters behaver/treated each other that made this book unreadable for me. Specifically everyone against Ryder. The rest will be in spoilers:

So if you didn't read the rant behind the spoiler and don't want too, I'll shorten it and not spoil anything. I will forget all of these fuckers except Ryder, poor guy is a victim.

Final note: I don't know if you can see my status's for this book, but if you can, just know these are a fraction of my thoughts. I think I kept ranting out loud to my husband like after every 5 pages.

You next read

Finally a RH with MM where the mens relationships have meaning. Also 🔥⚔️ some of the hottest smut I’ve ever read.

The story is a 4.5 ⭐️
The spice is 5 🌶
The editing is sadly 3 ⭐️

The editing didn’t honestly bother me because I read fast and get the just of any errors.

The story was interesting. The editing issues caused some reading fatigue. There are no commas or periods properly seperating dialog & it threw me off in a big way.
Can't speak to the story after about 40% when I DNF

Reverse harem. The FMC is a murder of bad men. Mafia romance. Super spicy. Extra extra smutty. Juicy love triangles inside triangles. A true why choose trope. Threesomes, Piercings, age gap, tattoo, voyeurism, cuckold, exhibition, bisexual, virginity, ect kinks/fetishes themes. It’s like all the colors of the rainbow smut read. 5 guys & I don’t mean the burger joint. It was fun.

This started out promising but truly turned into a mess. I really liked the first few chapters but then it just devolves quickly. The plot was ALL over the place. There was some really good ideas and plot points and some of the characters were okay. But also, it felt cookie cutter in a way. This book would have benefitted from some serious editing. I also couldn't buy into the FMC being this badass Mafia leader when all she did was run away whenever she was overly emotional. I only gave it three stars because the spice was great.

I have sooo many issues with this novel, one of them being the grammatical errors! Which is so frustrating because my 6 year old nephew wouldnt even make these types of mistakes theyre so juvenile. Theyre not even mistakes with the actual phrase and sentencing structures (altho there are many) its literally actual words that are so easy to spell that are ...mispelled!

Who edited this book is what we need to get to the bottom of, because its absolutely okay to make spelling mistakes, theres probably a ton here in my review, but if youre publishing something, i expect it to atleast be proofread before publishing??

Second thing that is so strange to me....and something I need to know, is this book is written by a Gen Z or a boomer??? I literally CANNOT tell, the writing and plotline come off sooo completely juvenile, BUUT the smut is EXCELLENT (very different to other smut, theres lots of MM, which i highly enjoy and the scenes are always a mix up of moves, its not just they give eachother head and then bang, theres lots of stuff going on) third issue, what is with the way this author describes the fmc's wardrobe, like the outfits she wears are so.....2007??? Is that just me, usually i wouldnt care about this stuff. Mainly because most authors keep it simple with the outfit choices or dont describe them at all. In this case the outfits are simple, but seem so outdated to me, like what are spiky heeled boots??? Are there actual spikes on her boots, or are the heels spiked...?? I just cant stop picturing outfits from the early 2000's era. Also, who wears a baby doll tank?? What is even that?? I know this is the wrong thing to focus on, but every single outfit grated on my damn nerve! Especially knowing this was a mafia principessa (or queen now i guess) you would think the head of the mafia would be walking around wearing versace and gucci. Not babydoll tank tops?? With spiked heels?

Other than that, i actually did finish this book and might continue but i need a break to go read something that absolutely wows me and unfortunately this did not do it for me, BUT as mentioned above the smut is really good and mostly why I gave this book a chance, its not the worst but better than most.

THAT… was good as hell. Definitely scratched the RH itch that I had. This plot was really really good. I loved all of the boys and the FMC too! I’m also a fan of this authors writing and for her debut? This is AMAZING. I can’t wait to read more by her.

was really just here for the smut 🤪💋

this is a dark mafia romance, why choose, mmmmfm, found family, badass fmc, serial killers, revenge, lots of yummy smut, multiple povs, ends in a cliffhanger 🖤

this was so funny on so many levels but also the smut … omg i could literally go back to this just to feel something again because of it !! the relationship between all of these characters, the chemistry, their backstories ?? beautiful !!

i absolutely adore these characters !! they all have some things they keep to themselves, never fully trusting anyone. but when it all comes out … oof does it hurt 🥹 but it’s also such a beautiful moment. i definitely cried for certain character’s back stories and what had happened to them. but i’m glad they were able to open up about their pasts and let it out. they were able to find their people, their ride or die 🥰

i definitely want to jump right into book two !! that ending had my head hurting 😭 this book was lacking about on the plot but now that i got to the ending i kind of understand why 🤧 i can’t wait !!

3.5⭐️

It had a lot of potential.

I really liked all 5 guys. But I didn’t care for the female MC. They kept acting like she was the ice queen but she literally cried nonstop lol. There was a part where the male mc is like “I’d never seen les cry before” and I was confused as hell because I kid you not she’s crying every few pages.

Also, once the smut starts in this book, it does not stop. Literally there’s 1 page of plot then a 12 page smut scene. Over and over and over. At first it was entertaining but this is a nearly 700 page book, so it got repetitive and boring.

Really good!! The story kept me invested. Good plot, dialogue, relationships. Lots of great lines!! I think I ended up with like 130 highlights lol. Just overall really enjoyed this story and am ready to jump into book 2 now. The one thing I will say is that there were some minor typos/grammar errors. Also, maybe just me idk, but I was able to predict the twist at the end iykyk. Also be prepared for A LOT of smut lol like most chapters (pretty normal in a book like this, but just fair warning lol). Definitely recommend if you’re into dark RH stories :))

The best book of 2023 so far! Someone recommended this to me and I really started to think it was around 75% Just sex and relationships but at around 25% it gets really intense. It stays that way the rest of the book. Adding in more twists and more characters that are I just knew I would see more of in a different light, 99% in a great light! Jut a really really amazing book right from the start! She does such an amazing job with character development and drawing you right in at the very beginning. I did not even notice the “fluff” / “filler”. That is an incredible feat. Love this author. HOLDEN IS MY FAVORITE BY THE WAY AND HE WILL END UP SURPRISING YOU!

This book had me by a choke hold! 😍 I don’t usually read RH with more than 4 guys, but I’m so glad I read this one. My only complaint is the grammar & spelling issues aside from that I LOVED everything about this book. I usually have a favorite of the group but I can’t pick just one. They all are my favorite in their own way. Alessa being an absolute bad a**, Holden being the bashful/shy one, Gage being hilarious/care free, Dex; serious but level headed, Ryder the protector & Leo being okay with everything. I even loved the side characters, like Leo’s brothers Evander & Mateo. & Alessa’s uncle Micah. I have read a lot of RH but this one just became my top favorite.

DNF 70%. Alessa is so damn insufferable. Is she strong yes. But is she annoying also yes. This whole book is unrealistic. She’s always right no matter what. Nobody ever questions her. Every single guy is always on her side. Even when she’s completely wrong. It’s all about her happiness nobody else’s. Literally at the beginning Ryder ends up leaving cuz he doesn’t want to date a girl who’s dating multiple guys. And she’s like you’re really gonna throw away a 25 year friendship over this?!? 🙄. Bitch what!!!!! Not to mention this book starts out with a cheating trope which I hate but I guess it doesn’t matter because It’s the woman cheating and not the man 🙄.

Alessa was dating Leo and confessed her love for him. They were together for 4 months. Then she figures out his secret and uses that as an excuse to make out with not 1 not 2 but 3 different dudes!!! And then she finally tells him but she brushes it off like it doesn’t actually matter that she cheated on him. And Leo is conveniently ok with it 🙄. Bs!!! Just picture a man dating a woman for 4 months and then he makes out with 3 other girls cuz he wants them too is that still hot?!?

No matter what Alessa did the men always just automatically took her side and would call themselves dumbasses. Everybody was magically ok with her dating all of them. And all the guys constantly apologized. Sorry not sorry but if your partner/partners have to walk on eggshells to call you
out on your bs then your relationship is one sided. All of the men constantly apologized in this book non stop to her for no reason. They never owed her an apology!!

Even Ryders dad was on Alessas side. Ryder was heartbroken over her dating 4 other dudes. And his dad told him to stop being a pussy bitch and learn how to share!!! Wtfffff. That’s not realistic at all. And every single fucking character was all on Alessas side for every god damn thing.

Like even “for the love of Kane” wasn’t all about Kane. If you don’t know “for the love of Kane” is the authors MMMM standalone. And that book was incredible. And even that book wasn’t all about Kane!!! But this book was all about Alessa. I cared more about Gages and Leo’s relationship. And Holden and Ryder’s relationship. But we never got any action between them cuz it’s always about Alessa.

And they never have an actual reason for why they love Alessa. And not to mention!!! The first 70% of this book takes place in a week!!! A FUCKING WEEK!!! Alessa had like 300 orgasms in a week!!! Be so fucking fr that’s not even possible! Not to mention each time she fucked they would make her orgasm like 4 times before they would stop. Then she would take 2 dicks at a time. Two in her actual pussy!!! I’m sorry but that is simply impossible. Stretch this book out in a time frame of 3 months and I believe you. And they are all talking about how much they love her but it’s been a FUCKING WEEK!!!

If you want to read a book like your wet dreams where the men have no personalities and they are just meant to serve you and keep you safe while you treat them like dog shit. Then this book is for you. I think this author should stick with MM only because she really knows how to write men. But women!!! God and she was the biggest pick me. When she was showing off her skills in front of all the men and then a random woman shows up to flirt with gage and Alessa starts threatening her and so do all the men. Because a big titted blonde is nothing compared to Queen Alessa 🙄 bs that blonde had more of a personality then Alessa ever would. And then she ran off terrified because of Alessas threat. Once again BULL FUCKING SHIT!!! Alessa isn’t scary. The author is just trying to fucking hard to convince me that she is. Oh and I’m on the blonde big titted girls side. I think her name was Victoria. I hate all bitches with the name Victoria but she was the realest one in this book cuz she called Alessa a whore. Which she was.

I have no problem with RH but I do have a problem with cheating. And that’s what Alessa did to Leo. And no man on the planet is just simply ok with that. And then after finding out that she cheated he APOLOGZIED TO HER!!!

This author is a one hit wonder for me. For the love of Kane was incredible and I gave that 5⭐️. If she writes anymore MMMM or just MM anything without a female in it I will devour it!

Save your time and money. This book is so god damn boring.

This was my second time reading this absolute filthfest of a book. All you really need to know is that this book is approximately 80% smut, 20% mafia plot, and 100% five-guys-one-girl madness. Like, what did you think was gonna happen when you opened a reverse harem mafia romance? A gentle stroll through the park? Bless your heart.

The characters are fun as hell, each with their own flavour of hot mess energy and it’s a good time seeing the story unfold from multiple POVs. The dynamics between them? Absolutely delicious. The interactions? Horny, witty and emotionally charged. We love to see it.

Also, there’s a gay awakening in here. Actually, there are several. Plural. It’s steamy, it’s chaotic, it’s everything I never knew I needed until I was halfway through yelling “KISS, YOU COWARDS!” at my Kindle.

One of my favourite things, though? The consent. We’re talking frequent, enthusiastic, verbal consent, and it’s honestly hot as fuck. There’s just something about people being explicit about what they want (and checking in on each other) that makes the spice even spicier.

That said, this book does come with a metric tonne of trauma seriously, it’s like trauma bingo in here so please, for the love of your mental health, check your trigger warnings before diving in.

Final verdict? The plot keeps things interesting enough to carry you from smut scene to smut scene without getting bored, so I’d give the story a solid 4. But the spice? Oh honey, the spice is a certified five-alarm fire. Solid 5/5. Would absolutely let this group ruin my life (again).

Fave quotes:

“Our girl, huh?” she asks, looking at him.  “You’re damn right,” he answers without hesitation. She turns to me with a raised brow. I shrug. “I have to agree with Gage.”  “Was I going to be consulted on this?” she asks. Gage leans in close. “You were consulted the night we had our cocks inside you at the same time.”  She shrugs“Fair point.”

“Let me get this right. You finally tell her what we’ve all seen for years and then fuck it up because you still haven’t learned how to share?”

The Fmc is too talented. Wow, 5 guys and counting.

The FMC background story is so traumatic. it's start off small like, first she was kidnapped at 13.Then sexually assalted. Then you found out it was a bunch of men and then book state it was days. I sit down reading with my mouth wide open, and this was just the beginning. Because of the background story, is so horrific that it sometimes pulls me out of the story. However, the theme is dark but not the content.

I Iove the interaction with all the guys and the fmc.
And I also love that some of the guys like the other guys.

I really really wanted this to be 5 stars. I’ll be honest with my review. The spice content is out of this world. That alone is 5+ stars. The writing on this was just not doing it for me. It was all over the place and I found myself not focusing and zoning out. This was not helpful since it was many pages long. It does leave the book on a cliffhanger so I’m hoping book #2 is better if I ever decide to try the next one.

I skipped to the end at like 55%. This was just a long, drawn out, poorly written (seriously, where was the “professional editing” - there’s only so many times where I can read “your” in place of “you’re” before I lose my marbles) mafia novel.

It was incredibly boring writing. I literally stopped mid coitus scene because I was doing maths in my head for my bills.
