This book provides a bird's-eye view of an incredible journey. The supernatural and extraordinary events and the settings in which they are described may be scarcely believable. Nonetheless, there is a higher purpose for which this narrative remains loyal and unapologetically steadfast. I hope that you will find this remarkable yet true story compelling and inspirational.
Parts of this story contain graphic content and are worthy of fair warning to sensitive readers.
It was not what I was expecting when I found this book on my thriller books FB group. I wish I had had some warning about the graphic nature of this book. My heart aches for these children. It wasn't a bad book at all, but definitely not what I was expecting.
I inadvertently added this book to my wish list when I meant to add a book with a similar title. Once I started reading it, I realized my mistake. There seem to be no issues with the quality of writing, as it is well organized, thought out, and written. Anyone who is born-again will probably very much enjoy this story. I have much sympathy for all of the atrocities that the author endured in his life and I’m glad for him that he found something to hold onto for strength. I would recommend this book to anyone deeply ensconced in religion or looking to become so. I would not recommend this to anyone who considers themselves to be atheist, agnostic, or otherwise apathetical about Jesus as a savior.
3.5stars— “The Barn” is the first book I’ve ever read by David Hill. I enjoy Christian books centered around miracles or near death experiences so I was hooked by the semi-mysterious title and the subtitle: “an extraordinary true story.” “The Barn” ends up being an autobiographical account of the severe abuse the author and his brother suffered at the hands of his stepfather and how he overcame his anger and hatred towards his abuser. The forgiveness for these evil deeds comes after a very real encounter with God that really affected the author and led to his immediate transformation into a different person. I enjoyed the author’s sincere telling of his story and felt like he did a very good job of explaining the changes in his life since he was saved. My only criticism would be that I felt like a lot of the early years were not as detailed as they needed to be in order to understand the complicated relationships between the author and his family. Also, there are so many books similar to this about evil parents and step-parents that abuse defenseless children that sadly they have a horrific repetitive quality to them. Even with the uplifting ending, books such as these leave me angry and sad and questioning how some people can be so evil towards children.
This is a wonderful book, although it is for people who can handle the hard truth about abuse- I assume that’s the only reason there’s lower reviewers because the book is a great story. The author is extremely detailed in the abusers details, so if you’re not open to reading about the truths of this world and the abuse that people and children are living through everyday, then this book is not for you. I encourage everyone to read it, because the redemption is beautiful. The author forgives his abuser after an experience of healing.
3/5 ⭐️ reading the back of the book tells you nothing about this story. It’s heartbreaking in the first half and emotional the whole way through. I could barely get through the abuse he endured and then the way drugs influenced him and his friends. But once things were turned around, I really admired the strength it took to share his story. God truly is so good!! This is an amazing testimony that shows God’s power and I love the way David shared the things God spoke into his life.
This book is very heart wrenching and parts are difficult to read. Yet only adds to the miraculous miracle and conversion. It’s a wonderful book proclaiming God’s infinite mercy and love for everyone. AND as a mother of 9 the importance of intercessory prayer. Thank you David Hill for writing this book. Very Courageous!
Our book club is reading this book. I recommended to them to start at Chapter 5. The first 4 chapters are very graphic and sickening and could have been written less explicitly with the same outcome for the reader.
A great and beautiful story! Nicely told. I feel blessed to have read this book. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a closer walk with Christ.
A remarkable story of survival, redemption and forgiveness. A great reminder of what God can do even in the worst situations. I loved it and couldn't put it down!
