The overall premise of this series was extremely interesting - a best friend’s twin brother romance turned into a suspenseful dark romance… but it just became so messy, confusing, and long/boring. Book 1 was cute! A normal college romance filled with tension, forbidden love, sneaking around… but book 2 took a dark turn.

The “dark” part of the romance comes from Madison’s stalker/captor who is obsessed with her. Stefan is a master manipulator that ends up breaking Madison and Cole up. The three of them finally meet years later in court. Madison is the star witness, Cole is the DA, and Stefan is the accused. The mind games continue… as I said, the premise was SOOO GOOD! Poor execution.

The writing was long and confusing. We constantly time jump and switch POVs. Definitely needed a better editor. Many scenes felt repetitive.

And normally I LOVE dark romance with morally gray characters. I love stalker romances, it’s one of my favorite genres! But this one I absolutely hated because the obsessed stalker is not the main love interest nor does he have any redeeming qualities. Stefan truly is an evil man who abuses, rapes, drugs, and tortures Madison. We get many many many scenes depicting this. Like ew… stalker romances are only hot if he obsessively worships her and she’s lowkey (or high key) into it.

Madison turns to drugs and alcohol and makes terrible mistakes like selling her body and putting herself in dangerous situations.
