I write contemporary and dark romance. My characters always end happily, but I love writing real characters that are flawed. Their journeys are sometimes hard to read, and the path to finding their HEA can be a little rough but in the end it’s always worth it.

Play by author M. Jay Granberry is my first novel from this author and I am so happy I discovered her! Ms. Granberry writes in an easy-to-read style that is all about conveying the intricacies of love, attraction, and good, old-fashioned competition, when a gorgeous young woman, Katrina (“Kat”) Montgomery, must choose between two incredible men, Ryan MacCrae, CEO and new owner of the NBA team he just purchased in Las Vegas, and Langston (“Stone”) Solomon, best player on the team and arguably within the NBA. Ms. Granberry handily portrays the protagonists with all their foibles and imperfections juxtaposed against their most admirable and endearing traits. Both men are at the top of their professions having achieved the ultimate success; both are shamefully handsome and know it, using their looks to their best advantage; both men command the room through their mere presence alone no matter who else is in the room with them; both men are financially secure with great future earning potential; and, most of all, both men see Kat for the inner beauty she exudes, even more than her exquisite physical beauty of face and body, and want her desperately for themselves.
Their circumstances and inner struggles are cleverly showcased against each other by this accomplished author. Ryan will never feel he is good enough, his own father made certain of that and continues to drive that point home at every opportunity, regardless of his success in the business world, he will always be a disappointment. Similarly, Stone harbors the same type of feelings despite his amazing success on the court, hard work, and winning mindset, he will always be a disappointment to his parents because he chose the NBA. They once saw his potential as great and significant, but turned their backs on him because they believed he turned his back on all of the values and principals they hold dear and important in life. And Kat harbors guilt over her mother’s death, her mother the consummate ballerina, emoting feeling in every movement and step when she danced, something Kat has never been able to do. Kat’s twin brother, like their mother, has that magic gift of pulling the audience into his dancing whenever he is on stage, leaving Kat feeling alone and out of place in her chosen profession. Three broken and very real people trying to sort themselves and the world they are living in, into some kind of order to make sense of their emotions and feelings for and about each other.
Ms. Granberry’s words create intense and complex chemistry with every scene between Ryan and Kat and Stone and Kat. The pages literally sizzled as I read the interactions of Kat pairing with each man. Her descriptions pulled every emotion I possess to come out and fly around the stratosphere, near where my head went as I read Ms. Granberry’s incredibly beautiful words. These feelings are tearing at this woman and these men whenever they are together with her. None of them are able to control their actions. Both men are cut from the same cloth, ambitious, consumed with the desire to possess Kat totally, physically, but most of all emotionally. The intensity of the passion between Kat and these men will rob you of your breath, their depth of emotion will touch your soul deeply, and the heat of their encounters will send you running to the freezer to cool down! And, ladies and gentlemen, Play is only Book 1 of the Fast Break Series which ends on a cliffhanger!!! You MUST have this book on your bookshelf! NOW!!!

Team Ryan!

I'm not a fan of love triangles because inevitably somebody will get hurt but my goal for the last couple of years is to read books outside my comfort zone. So, I decided to read this book.

Ryan and Katrina are FWB and after four years Ryan wants more and Katrina doesn't know what she wants beyond a place in the Ballet World. Ryan's father warns Ryan that chasing after a woman who doesn't want to be caught will only bring him down. Katrina is an enigma, never allowing him close to the real Katrina. Ryan pushes and asks Katrina to meet and live with him in Las Vegas, but she makes it clear her life is in New York until she receives disappointing news.

Ryan's in Las Vegas because he's the new owner of a basketball team and during his press conference he makes it clear he'll make whatever changes needed to win—nobody is safe, even franchise players. The sound of shattering glass in the owner's box introduces Ryan to Langston—his best player—he goes to find out what's going on only to discover that Langston is having a moment with his elusive love, Katrina. Ryan watches from the sidelines as the attraction ignites and takes hold, his feet presumably made of clay in that moment.

In reality, the pivotal moment where Katrina meets Langston isn't his finest moment and quite honestly, I didn't see why she would be attracted to him given his inebriated state. I didn't connect with this heroine, she's too mysterious and elusive and frustrating and she's just as elusive with Langston. It got really tiresome and unbelievable actually that she could hold the interest of two powerful men with what little she gave of herself. Sex only goes so far as Ryan comes to realize when she uses it as a coping mechanism, time after time.

As for Ryan's romantic rival, Langston, I don't like him, he's arrogant and doesn't respect boundaries and since I met Ryan first, I'm rooting for him, though honestly, there are three books in this series.

Question: Is there really a sports franchise in the United States of America that doesn't have a No Fraternization Policy among owners, management, athletes and staff? I'll wait!

At one point Ryan says the most profound thing of any character in the book:

"No, Kat," it isn't supposed to feel like this, like walking a tightrope of worry, relief, and uncertainty. I need ...

Recommended: Read It.

Stay tuned for more rivalry, angst and heartbreak.

This is Book 1 of 3.

Books 2 & 3 will drop in September and October, respectively.

Happy Reading!

Rollercoaster Romance in the World of Basketball - 4.5 Stars

"Play" by M. Jay Granberry is an emotionally charged rollercoaster ride that delves deep into the world of professional basketball, fame, and the complexities of love. This book kicks off the Fast Break Series with a passionate love triangle that leaves readers craving more.

The story revolves around Ryan MacCrae, a man accustomed to having everything he desires. His target now is Katrina Montgomery, but when Langston Solomon enters the picture, the dynamics shift dramatically. Ryan faces a challenge like never before - fighting to keep the woman he loves. What unfolds is a gripping tale of love, passion, and basketball, where the rules are as unpredictable as the game itself.

M. Jay Granberry's writing is compelling, and I devoured this read eagerly. The love triangle at the heart of the story is both thrilling and maddening. It's hard not to take sides, yet the passion and chemistry between the characters keep you torn between them. Katrina's actions may leave you frustrated, as she navigates her feelings for both men without clear explanations for her choices.

Ryan's character is well-developed, his history with Katrina feels complicated and genuine, and their connection is raw and intense. Langston, on the other hand, adds an element of passion and excitement, although some readers might feel that something is missing from his side of the story.

The story takes unexpected twists and turns, building up to a raw and tantalizing ending that leaves you yearning for more. It's a testament to the author's skill that you'll anxiously await the next installment to see how the emotional turmoil and drama unfold.

"Play" offers a blend of sports, romance, love triangles, angst, and drama that keeps you on edge throughout. While it starts with Ryan, the narrative allows you to explore Katrina's evolving emotions, making the triangle more intricate. It's a story where you'll root for all three characters and wish for a unique resolution to their complex relationships.

In conclusion, "Play" is a captivating start to the Fast Break Series, earning a solid 4.5 stars. It's a must-read for fans of love triangles and emotionally charged romances, with a promise of even more exciting developments in the subsequent books, "Pass" and "Shoot." Brace yourself for a thrilling ride with Ryan, Langston, and Katrina, and get ready to experience their love story in all its glory

I am completely torn between the two. So many mixed feelings. I love a good triangle and usually i am always one sided but this story is hurting me, im swayed towards one more than the other slightly but yet cannot deny the passion and chemistry that sparks with the other. And in all honesty it’s Kat who i’m angry with , she is the one playing and leading them on and i feel she is the one being selfish and dishonest.
My first read by MJ and i’m kinda flawed right now. Her writing is compelling and i’ve devoured this read.
Kat flits from one of them to the next but no explanation of the move or what’s happened inbetween and that was my only criticism. It seems time moves on faster than you think in the story and i’m missing the other guy, his feelings and reactions. What happened to the other in the time she’s with one of them.
Ryan is the fit with the history. it feels complicated, year real and raw. It’s hot and needy with them like he knows her inside and out.
Langston is passion and fire, it’s new and exciting but i feel like something is missing ….
Then it stops at the rawest ending and cliffhanger…. i need more, so much more but i’m so anxious of who’s going to be left hurt and heartbroken ….

I think maybe because the story starts Ryan and you feel his love for her instantly, and she comes across so stand offish- reserved. i feel shes with him for convenience even though their sexual encounters are off the charts … he’s patient and gives her the space as doesn’t want to push her i think she finds comfort with him where as stone she gets the buzz and he sets her on fire.

Ryan oozes power and success, a business man with confidence, his dominance is hot and his tender caring side of heartwarming.

Love triangle

This story will take you on an emotional roller coaster ride with Ryan, Langston and Katrina. In most triangles it seems pretty clear that there is a favorite.
In the beginning it was Ryan- billionaire team owner. He was so into Katrina. He pretty much wore his heart on his sleeve. They always had an on again off again romance. He wanted more but Katrina kept a wall up. He did put a lot of pressure on her to commit. It didn’t quite turn out the way he wanted. She turned to someone else on their off time.
At first I didn’t think Langston would actually be a serious contender. He is the franchise player. Arrogant, pushy and rash. However, as we got to know him. I saw the attraction. His big personality was his his intelligence and big heart. He fell hard for Katrina. She calms his storms.

I wanted to be mad at Katrina. She really was frustrating. I felt like she was stringing Ryan along. Ryan kept himself in the situation. I loved that she explored her feelings and didn’t settle. It seems everyone knew the deal for the most part.

The cliffhanger left me with a lot of anxiety and I am anxious for the next book to find out how this will play out.

This story started off a little slow for me but once it picked up, it did not disappoint. This for me is the type of story where you wished a love triangle just turned into a threesome because you enjoy all of the main characters so much that you hate for one of them to have their heart broken. Ryan and Katrina (Kat) have been together in some sort of relationship for over 4 years. Ryan wants more but Katrina is hesitant. She definitely has some issues she need to work out. Then there's Stone just standing there and the chemistry between him and Kat is as undeniable as the chemistry between her and Ryan. I don't want to give anything away but for readers that enjoy a good love triangle, this is it. This story is steamy, sweet, and has moments that will make you laugh out loud, it plays with your emotions and has one hell of a cliffhanger. I'm definitely ready for the next book because I can't wait to read what happens next between the men when Kat's life is at risk and the men once again come face to face after everything that has happened.

‘Play’ by M Jay Granberry is her first book in this trilogy. She has written a beautifully poignant and powerful story about modern romance with Kat, Ryan, and Langston. She’s a ballerina who is ‘technically’ perfect but found lacking in an emotional connection after a failed audition. Ryan is the CEO of an international company and is buying a basketball team without his father’s support. Kat and Ryan are on again off again relationship but their sexual attraction is steaming.

Ms Granberry’s narrative and dialogue illustrate their push/pull, Kat’s insecurities, Ryan’s work ethic, and how these combine to create a void that Langston seems to fill for Kat. He’s charismatic, a talented basketball player, and deeply passionate. Ryan and Langston butt heads, pull out all the stops to entice Kat, and are both determined to win her heart. This ends on a heart breaking medical emergency and I can’t wait for the next book.

Love Triangle Trilogy
Katrina Montgomery and Ryan MacCrae have been in a friends-with-benefits relationship for years. Ryan want Katrina to commit and move to Vegas with him, but she has secrets that she is not willing to reveal for fear of losing Ryan. In enters basketball star, Langston Solomon. The chemistry between him and Katrina is there for all to see. What will Katrina do with two very different men vying for her. This love triangle with unexpect twists took me a few chapters to get into, but then I was sold. The characters filled me with frustrating emotions that had me teeter tottering in every direction as to what I wanted the outcome to be. Then WOW! I was blind sided by the cliffhanger that left me on edge waiting for the next two books in the series to come out so I can read what is next.
I received an ARC of this book from the author in return for voluntarily writing an honest review.

Play by M Jay Granberry is a love triangle romance trilogy! It was an extremely well written book! It’s engaging, entertaining and very messy lol. Looking forward to reading the next book! The main characters are Ryan, Katrina and Langston! I’ll be honest I don’t usually like love triangles because they’re just messy and always feel unresolved! I love Ryan and even Langston, but did not care at all for Katrina! I thought she was selfish, thoughtless and immature! I liked the intensity and depth of the story and characters. This is a cliffhanger with books two and three coming out soon! Someone’s bound to get their heart seriously broken and I have a feeling who it’s going to e! I will say that I’m team Ryan all the way but honestly wish both men could find someone more serious and mature! I hope Ryan and Langston gets their happily ever after but like I said I’m all in for Ryan!.

4 ½ Stars for this exciting new series!

I love a good triangle romance. I really like Ryan even though he's arrogant and treats Katrina like she is his. But I love Langston ... he just seems so sincere and considerate towards Katrina, but I think he's hiding a BIG secret ..., he can't be that perfect! I can see why Katrina fell for both of them. The cliffhanger ... I was not expecting that! I can't wait for the next book in the series.

Katrina and Ryan have been in a friends-with-benefits relationship for years. Ryan wants more, but Katrina doesn't want to commit. When Katrina and Langston accidentally meet, even Ryan can see the electricity between them ... and he doesn't like it. Ryan owns the basketball team that Langston plays for ... and that only complicates everything!

This is love triangle. It’s messy, and emotional, and so dang sexy! At first, I wasn’t a fan of Katrina and Ryan together. It didn’t seem like she was as into him as he was into her. It sometimes was a little painful when he describes their on and off relationship. And then came Stone. While he came off as very arrogant, it was also clear that there was so much going on beneath the surface.
It became impossible to choose between them, because they both had compelling stories and qualities. I even found myself wondering if they could come to some kind of agreement or understanding and turn this triangle into a threesome or a polyamorous romance.
I definitely can’t wait to see what will happen next!

Is it the start to end of a relationship.

Play is the first book in The Fast Break series. This series is about the relationship and dynamics between Katrina Montgomery, Ryan MacCrae and Langston Solomon. Be warned that this book does end with a cliffhanger that will be picked up in the next book, Pass and the their story concludes in Shoot. Ryan ad Katrina are both driven in their careers and focused. So when they met four years ago things were simple for them as they both did not want a relationship. But along the way things have changed and Ryan's heart has caught feelings, and a lot of complications. They have a push/pull towards each other that then expands to have Langston added into the mix, as both men pursue the beautiful and lovely Kat.
This was a great read and one that I am waiting for the next book to continue.

3 POV
Lovers Triangle

This story was well written and flows nicely. All 3 characters are well evolved, and the relationships are well defined.

Our FMC - Katrina is a dancer who ends up in Las Vegas cause she follows our dude Ry, who is MMC #1, and is the center of everyones turmoil, especially her own.

Our MMC #1 is Ryan - he is a rich media moguel infatuated with Katrina, just purchased a basketball team, and is trying to make a name for himself & crawl out from Daddys Shadow.

Our MMC #2 is Langston - He is a basketball player on the same team Ry just purchased, and he is also infatuated with Katrina. I dont fully know his back story, but I'm sure we will learn more in book #2.

Katrina wants both men.
Katrina has both men.
But at what cost? We'll find out.

Lover's Triangle

Play is the first book in the Fast Break trilogy. This book is a love triangle with Katrina, Ryan and Stone. As with all love triangles unlike why choose books, there are messy and emotional issues when three people have their hearts invested in the relationship. Now Ryan and Katrina have been together for a couple of years and you get the feeling that things are just stagnant and they need to move on. Now the relationship between Stone and Katrina seemed electric but you later realize that all three people have a lot of stuff going on underneath the surface that has swept them into this triangle. There are some steamy moments. Great story curious about what going to happen next. This book does end in a cliffhanger.

Mixed feelings about this one. I was intrigued as not read about basket sports romance before so this was an interesting read to see what happens behind the scenes.

I’m not sure about the FMC in this as felt she could have handled the situation better in terms of Ryan in comparison to Langston. I suppose this is why I’m a bit dubious about love triangles in general as one person always ends up getting hurt. I feel the FMC’s character could have had a bit more depth as her decisions/ feeling didn’t really make sense at times

On a positive note, It was well written but I’m not sure I care much for the FMC so not sure if I’ll read book 2.

Katrina and Ryan are friends-with-benefits, but Ryan wants more while Katrina does not want to commit. Ryan bought a basketball team, moved to Las Vegas and asked Katrina to go with him. In Las Vegas Katrina meets Langston, one of the star players of the basketball team Ryan has bought.

I love a good love triangle. Normally I am divided between the two love interests, however this time I am team Ryan. I don't know why but I don't like Langston that much. He is sweet and kind, but I don't have it for this man.
I find Ryan's jealousy cute and it shows how much he loves Katrina. I love a possessive, jealous man.
I did not see the ending coming, I will definitely read the next books.

Decision time…
Talk about making a decision. If you don’t already have a plan for your life, then after this book, you will.
They say you never miss the water until the well runs dry. Well, that’s the same about the people in your life. Because if you don’t cherish and honor them, someone else will. And be good at it.

This is the first time I’ve ever read anything from this author, and believe me, it won’t be the last.

Play is a really great read. Ryan and Katrina are in a relationship. I liked both of them, but I wasn't sure at first if Katrina was 100% feeling Ryan; then in comes Langston. Langston and Katrina have chemistry. Langston had a big ego, but he was ready to put in the work for Katrina. Ryan was also prepared to fight for Katrina too. Honestly, I like both Ryan and Langston, and I'm not sure who I hope she ends up with. The ending had a cliffhanger that I'm still thinking of, and I can't wait to see where the storyline goes next.

I usually avoid love triangle romances for fear of heartbreak, but 'Play' by M. Jay Granberry pleasantly surprised me. It's a passionate, emotionally charged, and messy story. Katrina, the lead character, has her share of issues, but her journey of growth kept me engrossed.

Granberry's writing is magnetic, and I couldn't put the book down. The dramatic cliffhanger left me eagerly anticipating the next book. If you're up for a captivating read that defies love triangle conventions, Play is a must-read!

This is the first in a new series, and this is Ryan, Langton, and Kat’s journey.
This is a fast-paced love triangle, which is intense, with challenges, passion, heartbreak, romance, and love, which ends with a cliffhanger. I struggled to connect with all of the characters, however I am looking forward to reading the next book.

I love a good sports romance, and I have read quite a few of them, but in the world of basketball, that was a new one for me. Add in a love triangle, yes definitely my kind of book.
This is my first book by this author, but she got me already attached to her characters. I love the way she writes this love triangle. And it is hard to choose one over the other.
But this is just the beginning and I am very curious to see how things will proceed between Ryan, Kate and Stone.

I thought that this was a good opening book in a new trilogy.

The storyline was well planned out and the author has created characters that you wanted to get to know and it was a book that really gripped me and caught my attention

The book was about 2 men chasing the same woman and how that played out. One of my favourite films has a similar plot line so I was really pleased with this one.

It is a romantic and sexy read – it is 4 stars from me for this one – highly recommended!

This is Ryan, Kat and Langston's story with a killer cliffhanger ending. Kat can't seem to make up her mind between the men. Ryan and Kat have history and he's comforting for her with hot sex. Langston is new and exciting with steamy chemistry. Who will be left with a broken heart by the end? You have to get the next book to find out more. I can't wait to see what happens to this trio.

Play is an exciting story centered around Ryan, Katrin and Langston. Ryan and Katrina have a relationship but in comes Langston and throws everything off course. The dynamics of this trio kept me glued to the pages. It is a sports romance that had my emotions all over the place and ends on a cliffhanger.

I do not normally read love triangle romances (give me a nice, complicated ménage). I don't want there to be broken hearts in the end. I must commend the author for creating two compelling male suitors for Katrina. Ryan who has been upfront during their on again off again relationship, and Langston the star basketballer player who is temptation personified. The story is sexy, emotional and messy. Katrina definitely has issues she needs to work on. I look forward to seeing how she develops in the next book. I don't know how it is going to turn out, but I am here waiting after the dramatic cliffhanger.
