HOW CAN IT BE WRONG
IF IT FEELS SO GOOD

Dating an American princess comes with a massive amount of baggage–all of which I’m willing to carry strapped on my back in quicksand and through seven hells. But Jane Cobalt’s baggage, I’m unprepared for. It comes in the form of her five equally famous and notoriously hard-to-please brothers.

I want Jane.
Completely.
Unconditionally.

But when there’s a trip scheduled that I can’t be a part of, I only have one option. It’s immoral.
Something I’d never consider until now.

But, hell, there’s got to be some perks to being a twin. So I’m doing it. I’m switching places with my brother.

Done and done.

It should have been easy.

There were little consequences.

Until the storm hit.

I'm not gonna lie and say that I didn't skim. Because I did. A lot. I just didn't care all that much for Thatcher and Jane in this book. I only stopped skimming when Marrow entered the picture. Also I wanted more of Xander and Thatcher this time. Even though I knew I wouldn't get it. I get it, he loves Jane and all that, but Xander needs him and Banks. And fuck, the more I see of Charlie, the more I hate him. His treatment of Moffy is horrible, and everyone just forgives him all the time. He doesn't deserve forgiveness. I mean, why did I even re-read this book... Took me ages to do it too.

⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱*Boring*⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱

First read review:
Thoughts I had through-out reading the book:
- That scene with Xander and Thatcher got me teary. Xander deserves the whole world, and it kinda bothers me that Thatcher wants to be away for the kid, even though I understand the reasons. Xander is just so precious.
- Am I the only one who kinda, sorta ships Donnelly and Beckett?
- Jane truly annoys my in this book. She wasn't so bad in book four, but now? Her back and forth, never deciding and such was why I feared - and did not want to read her books in the first place. However, it's apparently something the authors thought we should do.
- Also, the only one who doesn't really like Charlie? He's so awful to Moffy that I kinda want to smack him. Hard. And often.
- Connor is awesome. He's just so fascinating. He's one of the characters that just stands out. Like both Farrow and Moffy does.

Overall, I feel like one doesn't necessary need to read Jane and Thatcher's two books in order to read book 6 which will center around Marrow again (HALLELUJAH!!!). Not much happened that couldn't be recapped easily in #6. Specially around Marrow. Nothing foundational happened in Jane's books that affected Marrow in any way. That being said, this book was a boring, predictable and I had actually wanted more from it after being pleasantly surprised by book four. So I had more expectation for Jane's second book than the first (where I had none), which is probably why I feel a bit let down. Also, this book felt, strangely like the same story with different characters. The endgame was the same, so was the middle part. The beginning was the only thing that was different.

Xander continues, not noticing that I radioed anyone. “I don’t know; maybe if I went out more, it’d be more interesting for Donnelly.” He hangs his head, then swallows the last of his soda.
“Are you trying to impress him?” I take a swig of water.
“No.” He wipes his mouth with the heel of his palm. “I just don’t want anyone else to leave.”
I breathe out through my nose. That hits me hard since Banks and I were the first to really leave him.

Quick basic facts:
Genre: - (New Adult) Contemporary Romance (M/F)
Series: - Series, Book Five.
Love triangle? -
Cheating? -
HEA? -
Favorite character? - Marrow (always; one cannot choose one without the other.).
Would I read more by this author/or of series? - Sure.
Would I recommend this book/series? - Sure, Marrow's story is good and worth reading.
Will I read this again in the future? - No.
Rating - 2.5 stars.

His love is raw, bottomless safety that deserves as much as I can give in return.

Sinful Like Us is the fifth book in the ‘Like Us’ series and the conclusion of Thatcher and Jane’s story.

Jane and Thatcher are finally together and out in the open. But he can’t be her bodyguard anymore… but I have two words for you friends. Twin switch. I loved that part of the book so much. I loved how much chemistry Thatcher and Jane had and how patient, loving, and understand Thatcher was. Plus, this book was crazy hot! Plus, I really enjoyed all the Cobalt oddities. I mean, Donnelly says it best-
“Murder with the Cobalt fam,” Donnelly says through a mouthful of cheesecake. “Those who slay together, stay together.”

The reason this didn’t hit the 5 star mark for me… as much as I love Jane there were certain scenes where she just irked me a bit. And due to the setting of the bulk of the book, I felt the pacing was off a smidge. Still, those were both minor things that didn’t take away my love for this book and series.

This series is my heart. My absolute favorite series of all time (the Addicted series) is tied in, as these are the children of those characters and reading these books makes me so happy. The next book in the series is Moffy and Farrow’s final book (the wedding *squeal*) and I can’t freaking wait! And I’m dying for a Luna and Donnelly book. It’s not one of their confirmed books, but I really really hope it happens!

Overall, even though I didn’t love this quite as much as the first Jane and Thatcher book I still had a lot of love for the characters and their story and found the book enjoyable. I give it 4 stars and can’t wait to read more from my favorite writing duo!!
I love her. Every last part down to the bottom of her soul.

I really enjoyed Jane and Thatcher's second book. More so then Tangled Like Us

And even though Jane isn't my favorite female character, and her struggles felt a bit strange to me, overly dramatic, and a bit overblown, I loved her with Thatcher, because he is a babe!!! He was darling. Patient, understanding, supportive - the whole enchilada!!

The switcheroo was an interesting plot, not sure if it was needed, but both Thatcher and Banks did their best to make it believable.

I think what I took away the most about this novel is that when they were all trapped in one place, similar to the RV situation in Lovers Like Us I expected lots of bonding and quality time between the core group. But that was just not the case. And for me that was a missed opportunity. Also, for the amount of days they were stuck together, they only went grocery shopping ONCE. There were so many people in one spot, most of them big males, they should have run out of food two days into their stay. But that's a minor issue, compared to me wanting more group time.

Nevertheless I really enjoyed the ending, the future prospects for the security gang. I thought the resolution was an interesting one, and wondered how it will change certain dynamics. Because Omega was always a tight group, and by far my favorite security force, and the only one that mattered. The future will be interesting.

Marrow is still my favorite couple, no doubt about it. The small glimpses I got just confirmed that.

But so far, the series is still as addicting as it has been in the beginning. I'll drop everything to read it, and even pull an all-night if necessary.

BTW the character coupling for book 8 Wild Like Us threw me a bit if I'm honest. Turning a regular MF story into a MFM makes no sense. MFM is a niche trope, even more so than MM. Business wise it makes no sense at all. I always read that a future generation only has a chance of happening if people buy the books, how is a MFM book going to help that cause? Color me perplex.

1.5/5
- oh it’s messy ✌🏼
- I’ve got a lot of personal bias; I love jane, I love her so much she’s my favourite character but I absolutely hate the direction of this series; how it handles it’s secondary characters that most readers are already attached to from their previous series; and how they dedicate a large amount of their books towards setting the stage for OTHER books instead of the storyline between the main characters
- this series also serves as the second book of their first couple that deviated from the first trilogy surrounding their m/m couple ... it’s worth noting after this they will be returning to that couple ... so their favouritism is evident to say the least
- Also ... I don’t care about a single one of the bodyguards so .. I’ve clearly made some wrong decisions
- Where tlu saw the love and light of jane this showed the more real troubled parts of her which was fine but doesn’t make for the most excitingly enjoyable read .. especially for me who generally prefers more light hearted reads .. idk
- I found jane and thatcher’s relationship barely progressed
- the authors described this as the ending of their honeymoon period .. but I mean the story starts 2 days after theyre officially together but .. ok
- The problem with repeated bodyguard AND age gap romances written in a serious, contemporary manner is that some very valid points are made about hypocrisy and unprofessionalism .. so in scenes where people who are against them and making their points .. they aren’t wrong and I actually found myself agreeing with what they’re saying 🤷🏻‍♀️
- another thing with having such a tight knit group that doesn’t allow outsiders in any respect is that the conflict also comes from within and always revolves around the same confrontational parties ... it’s repeated, and it’s disheartening from a series where the central theme of family .. that seems like a joke?
- no spoilers but .. the cobalts are my favourite family and I was ... not impressed
- like I said .. half of this was an ok “ending” to jane/thatcher’s .. story? Was it a romance .. debatable .. while the other half was spent setting up everyone else for assumingely, possibly, their own story (which has been a trend in this series since book 3)
- Since the “setting up” portion felt so large I can’t not include my thoughts in this main portion of the review: I don’t even want to get into what the authors have set up for the future books, CONGRATS IF YOURE EXCITED AND ON BOARD BUT FOR ME: I hate it so much and it overshadowed any of the enjoyment I did feel at times
- And I really don’t think I’m, or anyone is exaggerating about this bc there’s literally 3 chapters from a POV that’s from neither mc
- My overall rating logic; if I give jane/thatcher’s parts 3/5 and everything else 0/5 that leaves me at 1.5/5 🤷🏻‍♀️

PS/A(?) .. rant??
- for authors that really, really, really, love to clarify they don’t write incest ... they really tiptoed that line waaaaaaay too often to not be ... sus
- not everyone cares to know what authors do or say behind the pages but I do and the way these authors have repeatedly dismissed the criticisms of many by hiding behind a (very superficial) lgbt+ curtain and shame their readers and allowing them be bullied on multiple platforms .. it’s deplorable
- Keeping up with their announcements that become blatant lies on top lies again and again all to (try to) keep certain fans interested in their content has been exhausting to say the least
- At the time I’m writing this there’s been another .. post .. saying they apologize for jane/thatcher being overshadowed by another ship revealed here and they didn’t intend for that .. but again they wrote whole chapters in another POV from someone other than jane or thatcher that’s part of said ship .. so???
- I completely understand that this is their creative property to do so as they wish but by using recognizable characters in a setting completely different from where they originated .. it’s jarring?? and they’ve tried to ease their readers in by lying about the contents but that’s just going to upset more people?? And that’s something they clearly haven’t accepted or grasped yet
- Personally, this is where I finally leave this series I’ve been following it too far down a road that I didn’t really enjoy enough to make it worthwhile 👋🏼

PPS; I know this is messy but a messy series deserves messy thoughts

2.5 Stars!

This was a bit painful to try and finish. I started skimming and just reading the dialogue pretty early on.

Sadly, I feel NOTHING for Jane and Thatcher. I don't get their connection. I don't feel their connection. And quite frankly it was very insta-lovey, and not in a good way.

Virtually nothing happened in this book. IDK, and Jane annoyed me.

This was simply a means to an end. Keeping up with the storyline until we get more Moffy and Farrow. I'm not even upset about book 8. Bring it!

in my last review of their first book, i was complaining that it was criminal Cobaretti only get two books and that they deserve more since Sulli gets three whole books, while Marrow get four...

i take that shit back, one book is fine bcos i reject this second book with my whole damn chest.

description

not all angst is good angst.

repeat it with me: not all angst is good angst.

Tangled Like Us was some good shit. the angst was 10/10. this? unnecessary. what the fuck. KBR really did my babies dirty for no reason. with this whole damn series they really said “if you’re not Moffy and Farrow, we don’t give a fuck💋”

while i still adore Cobaretti, i didn’t enjoy this as much as their first book bcos Jane’s antics here were fucking exhausting, ngl.

for me, her actions held little merit. it just felt like drama for drama’s sake and didn’t fully align with Jane’s character. it just bugged me a lot that i couldn’t fully enjoy the book like i wanted to bcos Jane would say something bizarre that was just hurtful af to Thatcher, but it didn’t make sense to her character whatsoever.

some of the conversations they had literally made zero fucking sense to me. i think they were supposed to be all deep and philosophical, about the difference between “needing” and “wanting” a person/love... but it just sounded very basic and convoluted, while portrayed as severely dramatic and life-altering.

i read every one of their dramatic conversations just like

description

it was truly exhausting. parts of me wanted to skim this and i was even tempted to dnf at one point, but i just adore the actual relationship between Thatcher and Jane that i couldn’t... but fuck me, what was the need? especially bcos Jane just said the same shit over and over again, not actually saying anything coherent or of any value.

i just despised the entire plot that took place in Scotland where everyone is snowed in. it really shouldn’t have taken up that much of the book🙄 it was the same conversations and scenarios on repeat. i was bored to tears and then frustrated that i couldn’t even enjoy my fave couple bcos of how bored i was.

Cobaretti deserved better.
“I have a strong love for myself, you know, but I recognize that classically, I’m not the world’s definition of beauty.”
“You’re mine,” I said with power and force.

especially since the last 20% slapped so hard. even the beginning was good too. i think the storylines bookending the book were pretty solid. the rest of it was filler content that served zero purpose. it’s truly bugged me so much😭 i found the Truth or Dare game the Cobalts instigated to be such a cool aspect of the story and it was barely utilised! i wish it had ran throughout the whole book instead of being dropped in favour for the boring fucking snowed-in plot line.

and dare i say too much sex? a few times id literally say to myself “not again” and sigh whenever they had sex. so the plot of this book just felt aimless, as though KBR just started writing random shit and hoped for the best. i really wish i could articulate how frustrating i found this book!! i can’t even imagine what Sulli’s books will do to me, tbh🤠

and what amplifies my irritation is the fact Moffy and Farrow didn’t get any weird drama in their relationship like these two do😭 the favouritism of KBR is soooo obvious. they live for ruining everyone’s fave couples, huh? they get four books no one asked for with very little drama within their actual relationship. while Jane and Thatcher have to have all this weird drama between them that KBR pulled out of their arses and thought was stellar story-telling.

“Now I’m twenty-eight,” I say strongly, “and I’m doing what I should’ve done on day one.”
“What’s that?” She blinks hard, fighting a heavy sleep.
I dip my head and whisper against her ear, “Let myself love you.”

but, you see, the parts that were good? they were sooooo good!! like can we talk about the bond between Thatcher and Xander please?? why was i tearing up at ten thirty in the fucking morning??? i adored Banks and Thatcher’s relationship, their bond was so wonderful particularly during the incident in the last 5% of this.

and all the lunadonnelly content was 🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻 their dirty dancing scene💀💀💀💀💀 i love them so much, they just match each other’s completely unhinged energy perfectly. 28th June please hurry!! and if KBR messes with my babies so god help me🔪

also please tell me Beckett and Jo are gonna be a thing??? the way some of these duos interact for 0.57354 seconds and i ship it, is quite concerning.

i truly don’t know if i can bear another Marrow book next... but Cobaretti and Lunadonnelly crumbs are calling my name.

Love is a violent emotion. Full of fortitude and might, and I’m going to be destroyed under ours, aren’t I?

First, I adore these authors and their books, they’ve written some of my favorite books of all time. So it pains me that I didn’t like it as much, perhaps cause I always have high expectations when it comes to their books. But this one was not one of my favorites. Don’t get me wrong, I liked it, and it had some great moments here and there, but it was just boring. It felt like a filler book most of them time. Honestly, nothing really happened and it moved super slow between the switch and all that snowed in nonsense, I feel like there was no real plot, like at all. There isn’t much else to say, I guess since Tangled Like Us I expected way more from Jane’s love story, given that Rose and Connor’s books are so freaking amazing, but to me, it just felt flat. I couldn’t connect with Jane or Thatcher and their weird personalities, especially in this book. The secondary characters, parents, kids, bodyguards were the true stars in this one, which pains me because it feels like Jane’s story got sacrificed to advanced a hundred different plots. The writing though was great as always.

However, I’m interested enough to keep reading the series, plus I love these authors. Controversy aside, which I could care less how they pair up their OWN characters. As you can see, it has nothing to do with the rating.

I really flew through this story -and I’m both sad and happy to report that Sinful Like Us is the best book in the Like Us series so far. It was way better than Tangled Like Us and far more superior than all the previous books.

I don’t know if it’s because we know the characters more now or maybe the fact that I actually enjoyed the romance so much. Jane and Thatcher are my favorite couple in the whole LU series so far. I loved how supportive and caring they are. Each word was flooded with love and they help each other in the best way possible. They’re partners. They’re a solid unit. They bring the most wonderful things out of each other.

Not only did I adored Jane and Thatcher together, but I also loved them separately. This book did wonders for Thatcher’s character in ways the previous book didn’t and he is just fucking great. I liked him A LOT and his journey into feeling worth of Jane and Jane’s family was also very good. He’s so stoic but also so sweet, open to everything and willing to sacrifice it all for the people he loves.

Jane has always been one of my ride or die since the start and she continued surprising me with her love and inner conflicts. I loved it. She was under so much pressure from others but also from herself and when she doubted and cracked, she was able to built herself up again and find new ways to improve. I’m in love with her.

This book was great, not only because of Cobaretti but also because we could see a lot more of certain characters I was dying to dive into and everyone is so well layered and all of them were complex to the point I wish there were separate book for each one of them. Character study for everyone, that’s what I want. And when you can relate to characters you usually have very little in common with, that’s when (I think), you know you’re reading interesting characters.

I would rate this book 100 stars if I could, but not everything was good.

Don’t get me wrong -THIS book is amazing, but I read it knowing exactly what’s next for the series and it took a toll on me. You see, I’ve never been the biggest fan of the authors writing M/M couple because I feel like their books are more sex than anything else and the constant need to try to best one another it kinda rubs me the wrong way but if people like it, who am I to judge, right?

But when the news of 2 poly relationships broke and now that we know for sure 1 of the couples, well… it really surprised and it scared the hell out of me. I don’t think it’s going to work. I don’t know if the authors can write M/F/M like they did this couple (cobaretti). This relationship works in so many levels and I’m very much afraid of Sulli, Akara and Banks being just a poorly excuse to write smut. I’m all for trying new things but the fetishism of marrow could be weak in comparison to what could happen with the trio.

I’d love to say this feels very OOC but we don’t know THAT much of adult Sulli. Nor we know a lot of Akara and Banks, but what we do know is that this could pretty much break the Meadows family and put them, yet again, back to the old threesome rumor. Ryke and Daisy deserve better than having their girls reduced to sexual plot devices.

I am not sure if I will continue with the series. Only time will tell.

“I don’t need a career to be a smart woman.” I go on. “I don’t need a job to be talented. I am both smart and possess talent, and the love that I give is just as important as the fashion empire my mom built. I am enough just as I am.”

Reread #2 Update: JANE AND THATCHER SUPREMACY

Reread #1 Update: To be honest, I had been putting off rereading this book because I'm not a huge fan of all the tasks that the young Cobalts put Thatcher and Jane through. And now I'm mentally punching my past self because this book is still so hilarious and fun! It's a huge turning point because a lot of future couples have been established (from Sulli and Akara's falling out and Jack starting to borrow Oscar's clothing to Beckett and Joana meeting) and it sets the pace for the next few books! It was interesting to go back in time and remember how everything happened, like Kitsuwon Securities forming and Moffy and Farrow moving up their wedding.

Original Review:
This book played into the stuck-together-in-one-room/house trope and I didn’t even expect it?? I loved this book’s plot. So much happened and I was always on my toes.

As I predicted Jane and Thatcher’s perspectives were SO fun. They gave us that insider perspective on the Cobalt Clan and their Wednesday Family Nights that I wanted to see so badly!

But by far the best thing about reading from Jane’s point of view was seeing her discover what her dad did before, that it’s a good thing to open your heart to others.

“All this time, I thought love is a compromise of equals. 50-50. But it’s not…is it?” She leans back and gives me another pointed look. “With the right person, they’ll ensure you’re always whole.”

We also got to see the start of some future couples in the series! Luna and Donelly and Akara and Sulli (not Banks yet!) had quite a few scenes together and even Jack and Oscar talked a bit <3

First of all, I'm feeling so sad seeing people rate this book 1 star because they are disappointed with how the authors handled the couple in Book 8. I mean if you read this book and absolutely hate Jane & Thatcher then yeah rate it low, but not when you haven't even read the book yet and just base your rating on a few things. I can understand that it’s super disappointing if a canon ship is changed so suddenly. But it’s not what Jane & Thatcher deserve to be honest.

Now back to my actual VERY SPOILERY review, I'm pretty much still sleep deprived and can't think clearly but I’m going to try to write something (may change it in a couple of days tho). So sorry if there are a lot of typos!
"Love is a violent emotion. Full of fortitude and might, and I'm going to be destroyed under ours, aren't I?"

Sinful Like Us was a rollercoaster of emotions. It was like my heart was thrown into a mixer and someone pressed the power button. IT WAS SHREDDED TO PIECES. To say this book was emotional is an understatement, some moments were just painful to read. These characters mean everything to me, it feels like they are a part of me and every time something happens to them it’s like its my own pain.

It hurts me that I can’t give it 5 stars cause there were some things I just can’t agree on. Let’s start with them because it’s not as much:
— the angst and drama was a bit too much. I felt exhausted keeping up. All the characters were stressed being locked together in the same house for weeks on end and it was obvious that someone like Charlie would blow up. Do I agree with what he’s done? No. But I understand why he did it. It doesn’t make him less of an asshole but he’s still my son and I love him. Anyone who attacks him has to go through me first.
— I really love Jane with all my heart, but in some chapters her inability to admit to love Thatcher fully got on my nerves a little. I’m just really not of a fan of this trope where the girl feels like she is not worthy enough of the guy’s love. I get that Jane was feeling insecure about losing her independence, but comparing some of the scenes in Slu to the end of Tlu it felt like a stepback. But as I said its just a minor thing and Jane Eleanor Cobalt is still one of the best thing that came out the Like Us series and she means the world to me!
— Thatcher almost dying at around 95% of the book? Like excuse me? This is part of the angst and drama point but needed to have a separate paragraph. Why made him run into a burning house to rescuing some trashbag and let Jane think he died? I mean I knew they wouldn’t kill him off with 5% left of the book that’s why I feel it was so unnecessary.
— the surrogacy issue. Why does Jane have to follow her mum’s lead and be a surrogate for Moffy&Farrow’s baby? There is adoption out there.

And finally I can gush about all my favourite things and why this book deserves at least 4 stars:
— Cobaretti. I love Jane & Thatcher’s love story with all my heart. It’s emotional and it’s truly beautiful. How Thatcher always matches Jane pace no matter what. He never gives up on her despite Jane keeping her distance. I already loved Thatcher in Tlu so much but my love for him skyrocketed in Slu. He is the best man for Jane point-blank. They are a match made in heaven. Sempre toujours.
”I know I’m not a prince. I’m not a king. But I’d treat Jane like she should be treated. She’s my princess, my angel and my queen. Every morning and every night. I’d kneel at her feet and stand by her side.”

— the Cobalts. I’ll tell you something, I will never in my life love a fictional family as much as I love the Cobalt Empire. They brought me so much happiness and every time one of them opens their mouth I cry tears of laughter! They are a bunch of dramatic psychos! God I can go on and on how extra they are, their minds amaze me. Following I’m just naming a few memorable scenes that really had an impact on me!
”Cobalts are a tornado force you don’t want to fuck with. Out of the three famous families, they have the most power and can wield it with the snap of a finger.”

— The scene where Thatcher meets Rose & Connor. One word: ICONIC. I was laughing so much with the methods that Connor and Rose use to grill Thatcher. They are legends.
— The Cobalt brothers entry in the bar and the whole bar scene. They are SO EXTRA. I cant say that enough. They really gave Thatcher hell. The card game was serious so funny, I felt so bad for Ben, Thather and Jane for the rabbit heart dare but it was entertainment pure. From the start til the end.
— Chapter 11 precisely. When Thatcher is in the bodyguard meeting with Epsilon and SFO and it wents to shit and he is in the bathroom and just want so hear Jane’s voice. It was so soft, let me cry myself to sleep tonight.
— The scene with Jane, Beckett, Charlie and Thatcher in the tower when they wanted Beckett to promise that he wont use cocaine when they return back. The whole scene was so painful to read. I read from people that they didn’t like how Beckett addiction was handled, but I thought it was dramatic and fit to the cobalts. The only way they thought Beckett would stop using is when they would use it too. So I liked the idea that every time Beckett uses, Thatcher, Jane and Charlie would do it too. Is it stupid? Yes definitely. Is it too risky to put your own life on the line? Yes but it is their brother and I would do the same.
— Wednesday Cobalt Dinner with Thatcher. He was the first non-cobalt who got invited to the dinner and if that is not already a win, I don’t know what is. The whole speech of why he fits into the cobalt family made me so proud of Thatcher and how far he made it. *trying not to cry*
— the treehouse scenes with Jane and all her aunts and mother. I love to see the core 6 again. The scene was just so sweet and I was so happy to see Rose, Lily and Daisy again. They influenced Jane as a person so much and it’s nice to have a moment with all of them together.
— so so so so much more. I could list many more chapters and moments that made my heart soar, but my review is long enough.

While TLU is still my favourite Cobaretti book. Just for all the points above this book is a 4 - to 4.5 Stars book!
“I love you,” I say so often now. I never want to leave his embrace, happiness is right here in his arms. And if we’re strong enough to survive ice and fire together, we can survive anything. Sempre toujours. Always always.

It shouldn’t have taken me this long to finish this book.

Most of my highlights were of the side characters over the MCs and that says it all doesn’t it?

The plot? There was none lmao. The back and forth from Jane really sucked the joy out of reading this book. But the family and friendships really served. THAT is the one thing that kept me going. Istg I’d be daydreaming about lunelly’s book (and the playlist) even though i wasn’t anywhere close to finishing this book 😂

I still LOVE Thatcher because of his undying loyalty and his actions. He’s just 🤌

ALSO BECKETT AND JO?! Fucking adorable. (They’ve interacted like three times in this book and I’m sensing the budding romance)

But 𝑯𝑶𝑳𝒀 the last 15% almost broke me. My mind is still reeling from Akara’s declaration after the entire fiasco (whoop whoop)

I feel like this book was so unnecessary at times but at the same time, I felt compelled to keep reading.

𝗦𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗲:
I’m jumping to Lunelly’s book bc I’m impatient lol🫣

I’ve realised that I’m doing the same thing that I did with the Addicted/Calloway series and I’ll be fine. A little lost but fine… right?!

I’ll most likely go back to the other books so… it’s typical behaviour atp <3

*sigh*

I don't even know where to begin tbh. There's so much to unpack. I was debating what rating to give to this book, and even though I thought it should be higher, the moment I started writing this review, the more apparent it was how many things bothered me.

SPOILERS AHEAD!!!

I ATE THIS UP!!! We get so much. Cobaretti, marrow, THE COBALT BROTHERS!!!!!!, lunnelly crumbs. We continue off and Jane and Thatchers relationship is now public, so Thatcher is off Jane’s duty. Jane and some of the famous ones are going on a trip and Thatcher can’t go because his client is staying in Philly. The only solution? Switch places with his twin who is supposed to accompany Jane on the trip. One thing I loved was seeing Jane and her development career wise. I really relate to this and I think a lot of people in their 20s can feel lost and feel like they need to plan for the rest of their life. I love how she maneuvered through that. Again, amazing relationship content from Cobaretti. Icons! But what really stuck out to me, was the COBALT BROTHERS SCENES! We got so much from them, especially Charlie and Beckett!! I’m obsessed and if you love the cobalts I know you’ll appreciate this book. #cobaltcultordie 🫶 Wednesday night dinners, looking out for their siblings, ENSEMBLE. The family bond >>> I’m loving my time reading this series and can’t wait to continue!

There's so much I could say, but this book took so long to get through I just want to be done with it. There was so much great in this book (the romance, the general plot and pacing, the tropes) but jesus I don't know what happened between the Addicted series and this one. The Ritchie duo just seemed to forget how to write authentically. In this series, a character can't have a thought or moment of growth without narrating it out loud, they can't have a fun quirk without it being their entire personality, they can't show their love for someone, they have to announce it in the most awkward wanna be poetic way. I genuinely loved Jane and Thatcher, and even most of the side characters in this. I want to rate this higher, cause all the elements making up this book were so good, but the actual writing quality just continues to decline.

“Sempre toujours.
Always always.”

Jane and Thatcher are my favorite couple in this series and I’m really sad that their story is over.

Yeah, the book had its flaws but it was still enjoyable.

I’m gonna miss my Cobalt boys, the Hales (specially Luna, because that’s my girl) and the Meadows. I loved seeing a little of the core six in the book, too bad they didn’t appear much.

I really hope Luna and Donnelly get a book because now they’re the only couple I have left in this series. 😭🧡

3 Sempre Toujours...Always Always Stars

Gah...I had such hopes for “Sinful Like Us,” and in this series in general! It almost pains me to leave this rating, and review. I really enjoyed Thatcher, and Jane’s first book! This one didn’t have the same cohesiveness as the first one, in my opinion, and unfortunately the storyline just didn’t do it for me. Also, there were too many loose ends, unresolved feelings/issues, and abrupt realizations. Maybe it’s because these books tend to be secondary character heavy already, but this book just seemed to be more so.

The highlight was Donnelly, I like him more and more as this series progresses! I also liked learning about Banks through his POV.

While checking to see if I was alone in my feelings or not, I stumbled across a few reviews while reading, which I don’t often do. Yep—big mistake, I know this didn’t help ease my mind.

I learned that two characters that were supposed to be getting their own book/books, are now adding another male into the mix for a poly-relationship. This is not a spoiler...I found it here on GR, slotted under book 8. For these two it makes so very little sense to me, and especially since this writing duo already announced that it would only be these two specific individuals...last year! I even marked it as “want to read” at the time. To say I’m disappointed would be an understatement...I feel kinda duped:(

I honestly don’t know if I’ll continue on with this series, at this point in time. I just don’t like the direction it’s headed. I’ve been SO invested, and really had such an affection for the original six, and their children have grown on me immensely. I’ve been pretty open minded from what I’d normally gravitate toward, so for the envelope to keep being pushed further and further...it just feels somewhat unauthentic at this point. I don’t mean to be a ‘Drama Llama,’ maybe my feelings will change...

Well that was disappointing, for the most part I enjoy this whole over the top Addicted/Like Us series. There are a few books I can do without, this being one of them. For the Like Us part (second part) if this series I enjoy the Farrow/Maximoff story, I love Farrow. I remember her first book having more substance than this one and enjoying it more. This one for me was a whole lotta of meh...it felt like Jane’s inner rambling over and over. From previous books this is so different from how she was written, disappointing. I just didn’t feel any connection to her or their story.

There was too much OTT & yes the majority of these books are based on that but this one for me made absolutely no sense at all:

1. Tony - I just didn’t understand why he was there at all
2. sulli’s “boyfriend” mentioned like 2 times in 30 days
3. Trapped in a blizzard in 2018 for 30 days???
4. The creepy incest question card game...WTF!!! What boyfriend would ever tell their girlfriends brother that.
5. How did they last 30 days with one grocery shopping trip?

This I need the answer- I have 2 boys 17, 19. I cannot make it 3 days without running out of food, or everyone saying “there’s nothing to eat” They had like 11 men, 4 women and they are all like over 6’2” 200lbs ??? Please enlighten me

description

Sinful Like Us is a continuation of Thatcher and Jane's story. I love all the character so much and I always look forward to everything that is happening in their world. Thatcher is a great guy and has a lot of patience. Jane is a bit insecure and some of her decisions did annoy me. Thatcher of course is loyal and does his best to support Jane whichever way he can. A big part of this book also focuses on the relationship between Jane and her brothers. I enjoyed those scenes a lot, and it made me understand better how strong their bonds are. They aren't perfect and make stupid decisions, but at the end of the day they are family. And they will always have each other's backs. This book is long, and there were some scenes that were dragged on a bit longer than I would've liked. It was sometimes a bit repetitive. At the end of the day, I love these characters, and will definitely continue reading this series. I look forward to seeing what will happen next.

I mean, I already knew this would be a low rating before it came out. I honestly just don't care about these characters and their relationships (other than kitsulli but rip to that) and the plot to these books. This was boring and I skimmed every single page. Like Us just doesn't compare to Addicted. I have the other books all rated 3 stars, and honestly I might go back and make them 2 because I don't like them.

Loved this for the Jane and Thatcher soulmate love and the beautiful amount of Cobalt family moments as well as the rest of the gang

But I'm bitter af that Maria Stokes is once again, a ghost and pretty much a figment of my imagination at this point (as well as the rest of the Stokes). And considering Jane is the one that had a close relationship with Maria and yet she isn't mentioned once, this means we'll never know Maria or the Stokes and that sucks...big time.

Read this review on my blog: here

"I know I’m not a prince. I’m not a king. But I’d treat Jane like she should be treated.
She’s my princess, my angel, and my queen. Every morning and every night.
I’d kneel at her feet and stand by her side."

I'm going to be very real and say that I have been almost dreading to post this review. The response towards this series has not been overwhelmingly positive, and fans of this series have been incredibly divisive when it comes to liking or not liking this particular instalment, hence why I've put off writing this review in the first place. But, I’m finally sitting down and gathering my thoughts, so strap in tight for this somewhat lengthy piece!

What is this book about?
Sinful Like Us continues Thatcher and Jane's relationship. American princess Jane is now dating her (ex-) bodyguard Thatcher. After being stuck with Thatcher's nemesis as her new protection, Jane has to navigate her newfound feelings while facing more outside obstacles. Can her and Thatcher's relationship survive outside the honeymoon phase?

“All this time, I thought love is a compromise of equals. 50-50. But it’s not…is it?”
She leans back and gives me another pointed look.
“With the right person, they’ll ensure you’re always whole.”

What did I think of Sinful Like Us?
Purely judging this from a romance perspective, I objectively really enjoyed this duet. It's no secret that the earlier instalments in this series (the ones focusing on the first couple) haven't been my favorites. I still enjoyed them enough to continue reading, but this particular couple is more up my street.

Jane and Thatcher's relationship has been my favorite in the series so far, and this book did wonderful things for their characters. I especially really liked Jane's development: going from a woman who is afraid of emotional attachment, to someone who is confident enough to voice her love. I adored the little insights we got into their relationship, as well as their daily interactions. I might be biased, but I could honestly read about their relationship all day. I also really enjoyed how angsty this book was. As someone who likes tropey angst and broody protective NA heroes, this was right up my alley.

Now comes the part where this book loses a star. A large part of the Like Us books are focused on the side characters and setting up potential future relationships, which in the earlier books wasn't a bad thing per sé because it gathered enthusiasm for the rest of the universe. However, in this book, I found that it really took attention away from the main couple in a negative way. A large part of the book was dedicated to Farrow and Maximoff's wedding, which will ironically also be the focus of the entire next book, as well as giving hints and setting up interactions with other couples. By creating such an extensive universe, the writing feels kind of all over the place, since the authors try their best to get everyone involved, which, let's face it, just reads a little messily. Additionally, there were three chapters from a seemingly random POV, that, looking at the overall build-up of the series, essentially made no sense because the character in question wasn't really part of the main story. These chapters only existed to set up a side character's relationship. All the random unnecessary interactions and character decisions made this book feel disengaged from the previous one (which is a feat because there are only three days between the ending of Tangled Like Us and the beginning of this book.) How this miniature timeline jump could have such major repercussions and inconsistencies in character remains a mystery.

Writing-wise, I also feel like one of the major flaws of this book (or series as a whole) is the recycling of many tropes and plot-lines, as well as including some very lengthy (and contrived) dramatics. As an example: this book sees Jane and Thatcher break up and make up within the span of a few hours (which served no purpose at all aside from lengthening the book). It also stretches the "intruder" storyline, which we've also seen in the very first instalment, as well as in the original Addicted series. I don't want to judge too harshly, since romance books aren't generally read for their plot, yet I do believe you're allowed to expect at least some variation in terms of story.

There are also some specific plot-related issues that I had with the book. The first being the apparent aversion towards adoption. The authors' earlier series introduces the concept of surrogacy, which back then, was sweet and special and fit within the story. This book, however, shows how Jane is willing to sacrifice her first pregnancy to be a surrogate for her cousin and his boyfriend (which essentially means she'll be her nephew's biological mother? Uhm...?) This just struck me as odd, especially since adoption is a valid option in this case.

Another minor comment: I also didn't fully understand the scene where Jane had to walk in on Maximoff and Farrow being intimate. I think this was supposed to be funny, but locking her into the room just ended up giving the reader some intense second-hand embarrassment, and dare I say even made me very uncomfortable.

Now, to address the big polyamorous elephant in the room. I started reading this series the day it dropped three years ago, and because these writers do so much to include their side-characters and secondary ships, I took an immediate like to Akara and Sulli. I've devoted a lot of time and energy to this pairing. From promoting it on Twitter, to making bookish graphics: I was very much anticipating their book. Whereas earlier books, and the writers too, confirmed these two to be a definite future ship, Sinful Like Us drops a very unexpected bomb: Sulli will be in a polyamorous relationship with both Akara and Banks.

Now, I'm not averse towards polyamorous relationships, as I've never read any romances that specifically include this trope. However, my first reaction to this news was anger and hurt; I'd been eagerly anticipating their book for almost three years. This felt like a betrayal of some sort. After shoving my feelings to the side, I went back in to paint a clearer picture, yet I remained a little disappointed. Reading Sulli and Banks' scenes feels very inorganic, they essentially go from not interacting in Alpha's Like Us, to Banks calling her a nickname that was originally designed for Akara in Sinful. This, you can imagine, does nothing to make the pre-existing 'Kitsulli' fanbase warm up to the idea of Sulli and Banks. Then there are some chapters where Banks and Akara have private conversations about Sulli and her love life, which, I dare say, is inconsistent with Akara's pre-established protective nature as seen in Damaged Like Us as well as Alpha's Like Us. In short, I don't feel like there is a well-developed basis for this polyamorous relationship, and at this point it just feels like the writers pulled a name out of their hats and added Banks to the mix to 'spice' up their (otherwise 'vanilla') relationship.

Though rightfully angry, I'm not someone who feels the urge to mingle in this particular fight, and because I did enjoy the series as a whole, I have decided to continue reading Like Us, albeit a little less investedly. I'm prepared to see what future books bring to the table, and I'm intrigued to see if they manage to turn Akara/Sulli/Banks into something I'll find myself enjoying after all. For now, this book's four star rating largely derives from my enjoyment of Jane and Thatcher's relationship, which has admittedly been overshined by the polyamorous news hidden within this book.

I hope this review managed to convey my feelings on the matter, and I'm tentatively intrigued to see what Headstrong Like Us will bring to the table, even though I'm not a huge fan of the pairing itself. For now, these are my thoughts on the situation.

I love seeing the Cobalt family again. Especially the dramatic Wednesday family dinners <3

Here are some of my thoughts:
• I like Jane. I mean she was being a bit too much at times with being contradictory w/ Thatcher. However, after she explained her concerns about independence – I get it more now. I like how she had a better understanding of love and what she wants to do with her life by the end of this book.
• Thatcher. He’s such a solid guy. I feel comforted and safe, just hearing about all the details of how comforted and Jane feels. It’s also nice to see him unwaveringly all-in for Jane and doing his best to make her happy.
• OK tbh I don’t even wanna talk about this book rn b/c I’m still in shocked about the new update on Like Us #8. As if it wasn’t making me nervous and making anticipate like crazy before – this update, I’m like whoa whoa whoa. Look it up if you don’t know what I’m talking about. I’m down for it, but also I’m nervous. This was such a huge plot twist and I wasn’t expecting it at alllll. I wanna read books 6 and 7, but tbh I really just wanted to get to book 8… like 7 books ago.
• Cobalt family dinners are the best. *happy sigh* Also Thatcher’s answer was the besttttt. It really felt full circles.
• I’m still super down for this Luna and Donnelly thing – can they please get a book?
• For that matter, I’m curious about Beckett and Joana. I’d be down if this happens. She sounds badass.
• (But let’s focus on Luna and Donnelly first please. And please let there not be a big wait for them to actually be together b/c we are already waiting a million years for Akara and Sulli, thanks)
• This book has made me love Banks. He’s such a good brother and good guy. I’m glad he got those 3 or so chapters in. I was thinking to myself, dang that guy deserves a novella on his own romance or something. (little did I know)
• The 1st half of the book – good. 50-75% gotta a bit much especially all those delays on their trip from the snow – sorta blah. Last quarter was really, really good, so it pretty much made up for it.

Overall, I love Jane and Thatcher as a couple. They are pretty much exact opposites but they are both people who value family and love over all else. Like always, I’m enamored by the family aspect of this whole series and the Addicted series – it’s the best thing hands-down. I don’t know what to rate this but 3.5/4 stars for now.

Things that you might want to know (WARNING: Spoilers below)

Update - I actually read this book.
Because I pre-ordered (ugh).

Shame on Krista and Becca for fooling me into caring about this series just because I loved the Calloways so much.
Thatcher and Jane are blegh. But to be honest, I would have been fine with one dimensional Thatcher in this installment if only Jane hadn't been so caught-up with her pathetic insecurities. Her insecurities were the whole entire plot. I mean yes, they were stuck in a random house in Scotland for a month, but in the entire book, nothing really happened.

I was very disappointed with Thatcher and Jane. At first, I really wanted to liee them as a couple. But Jane is awful. All she thinks about is her extra chub and Thatcher ginormous cock. It's stupid and demeaning. The fact that the next book will be another one about Farrow and Maximoff is awful. I don't think I can stomach reading another 400 pages from their perspective. The mess with Sullivan and Akara being forced into a three person relationship just makes everything even worse. For those who didn't get the memo: even though Akara and Sullivan was confirmed as a couple years ago, this has now changed and the new pairing is Akara, Sulli AND BANKS. I know, it doesn't make any sense, everyone is upset about it. My review of this book has not been colored by my anger over this, however. I just can't stand Thane and Farrowmoff they are bullshit characters and their stories oo far have been trash.

... I do not recommend this series. To anyone. I am sad and sickened that this series is now also destroying good memories I have of the Addicted and Calloway sisters series.

Initial pre-read review:
Gee, I can't wait for another story featuring the cockbrained bodyguard and his characterless love interest, JANE. Those two were so much better when I could still speculate that they had some kind of drive that wasn't a sex drive and some kind of personality that didn't involve being an italian bodyguard or having no personality (which was Jane's thing, all along).

But what I am even MORE impatient for is of course YET ANOTHER book about those crappy dumbasses Maximoff and Farrow. Yeah. You remember those good times, when you could just skip over either the Calloway series or the Addicted series? Back when you could read about INTERESTING, cool characters?

I don't. I'm just sitting here, forced to read through JANEY and whatshisface and FARROWMOFF or whatever their ship name is go through their boring plots while I wait impatiently for the good stuff. Because these 6 books of trash are a canonized, continuous narrative and if I don't read all of it, I won't ever have the necessary backstories. Namely, Sullivan. Namely, the original Calloways. Namely, Oscar.

How did this author duo, that managed to pull of a cheesy, over the top celebrity story into something touching and relatable, and transform it back into a Gossip-Girly slog that any other author could have done just as badly? I don't understand. I know they can write. I know they can hype their characters. I know they even LOVE their characters. So why is the Like Us series so utterly insufferable? Why is Maximoff such a boring kid, why is Farrow such an unrelatable fuckboi, why do we get monologues from Jane's bodyguard detailing exactly what his dick *thinks*, why is Jane such a pale reactionary whose chubbiness is the most daringly interesting thing about her?

Why ... yeah, why.

Six books about Farrowmoff and Janeyjane thinking she's fat. And you know what? I wish one of those stalkers that stalk these dumb bitches would finally succeed in getting these dumbasses off the page and into never being mentioned again. Thanks!

This is the best book of the series. It’s my favorite, beating out Lovers Like Us.

Jane and Thatcher are one of the cutest couples these authors have ever written. They’re up there with Raisy.

Tangled Like Us was cute. Seeing Jane and Thatcher get together was cute. But their relationship in this book is amazing. Their relationship grew, it got more serious, it had the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Sinful Like Us picks up right after Tangled Like Us ends, we get the answers to some those burning question we were left with in the previous book.

Thatcher is no longer Jane’s bodyguard at the start of this book, he’s been sent back to Xander, and it’s a pretty bittersweet situation. When the famous ones plan a trip *for reasons* Thatcher and Banks decide to switch places so that Thatcher can protect Jane, while Banks can stay with Xander.

As always, the plots for these books are a bit iffy. Not too much is usually going on, but I do think this books pacing was better than Alphas Like Us and Tangled Like Us . There were less lulls in the story and the secondary characters were brought in more. Which always results in better reading.

For any Cobalt stans out there, this book is for you. Connor and Rose make a few appearances, and we get a lot more from Charlie and Beckett as well. We also get a lot less of the Hales if that’s something you wanted. The Cobalts truly are one of a kind, and I really hope these kids get POVs because, straight up, the Cobalts are the most entertaining family. No shade, no tea, just facts.

It is also revealed in this book that there will be a polyam relationship in the future. No spoilers but… I’m not sure how that’s going to go. But I am cautiously optimistic (even if a lot of people aren’t).

Not much else can be said, if not you will get spoiled! I was so tempted to read the spoilers, but I’m glad I didn’t. This books should be read without too much info.

Overall, I thought this was such a fun read! There was humor and angst. Heartbreak and love. We saw a lot of sneak peeks as to what will come in the future. I truly hope these authors extend the series past 8 books. Sulli deserves at least two books (if not 3 or 4 like Moffy), the Cobalt twins deserve to find love (one of them meets their LI in a meet cute, and it was adorable), and a certain Space Babe deserves to be cherished.

It's 4.5 stars! I mean how can I not like something that Krista & Becca writes?😻
I won't lie, Jane is one of my favourite characters in the Like Us series and in the first half of the book, she was so annoying that I found my self rolling my eyes and wanting to skim the pages so often. Thankfully, my sweet, perfectly imperfect Jane was back not much later. I have no words for how I feel about THANE moments. It made me speechles and so horny. 😏

I loved all the Cobalt moments though wanted to kill Charlie a few times. 😬 Hoping that each one of them can have their own books.♥️

And when I saw Akara & Sulli & Banks will be a throuple.... I thought I died for a second. I'm rooting for their polyramous relationship and looking forward to reading it! 🐰

For those who hate the idea that Sulli will be involved with two men: Get Over It B*tches! Love is love!😍
