He collapsed in pain the moment things were getting good…

Tyrus Landry wants to live a carefree college life: game with his boys and do the bare minimum to pass his classes.

That gets jeopardized when he’s threatened with dismissal from school. As he begrudgingly plays along, he is plagued with disturbing nightmares. Their intensity and frequency continue to build

Then there’s the date. It’s going great, she’s wonderful, but tragedy strikes.

Soon he’ll be immersed in a world of Celestials and Devils, of angels and demons. They say he has a part to play. What is that, exactly?

But that question won’t be his only concern. Two best friends are vying for his heart. Other suitors appear on the horizon. What to do?

I couldn't rate this book 4.5 stars so I rounded up. This story is written really well. I loved the way the author described the scenes and characters. The storyline was cute and I would recommend this book to someone looking for a light hearted fantasy book. There were definitely times where I chuckled. The romance development was a little too quick, felt like things were happening too fast but that's just me. Now I realize it was for a specific reason that I will not be spoiling for you guys lol. Needless to say, I am looking forward to the rest of the books in the saga.

Honest Review

I actually really enjoyed the storytelling style in this book. The characters were described really well and it was easy getting to know them and watching them grow in the story.

I enjoyed the romantic relationships as well, it wasn't too lovey dovey and it was interesting to see the struggle between all the people involved in the relationship. It had a great ending that wrapped up the story nicely and even left a bit of a cliffhanger to look forward to the next book in this series.

I was given an ARC of this book.
There was a scene in the book where the writing got a little muddled and I had to read it a few times to figure out what was going on.
The plot was good and it kept me entertained.
The characters/character development was good. I liked how the characters were not cliche cookie cutters.
Overall, it was a good book.

I was given an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The Student is a great first book by Michael J Hansen. He has a great ability to describe his scenes, which allows the reader to immerse themselves in them, and the plot was well crafted. The characters were well developed as were their relationships and this is obviously the start of a very interesting supernatural series.

I look forward to finding out where this goes.

Received my ARC copy of The Student and read it right away! Loved it! The humor, romance, characters…… The characters are all very different, likable, interesting and real! I look forward to getting to know them even better. Love the plot and the characters the author has created! I’m more of a regency romance reader but have enjoyed fantasy or science fiction. I love many genres and really Love this book!!! I’m looking forward to following this series and the characters and story! For a first time novel, the author has a knack for story telling! I’m impressed and look forward to more!!!!

I used to be an avid urban fantasy reader back in the day (this expression always makes me feel so old). Anyway, I love to read the blend between the supernatural world and ours, right along with good mystery, humour and romance...

That's exactly what you will find in this book. The plot has a nice flow and it grabs your attention with its unique twist on the Angels/Demons trope, which I really enjoyed. It's always nice to find something new in an overused theme - even if it is a loved one.

The characters are fun to read about and very relatable, they feel real to the reader and not cookie cutter at all.

It's an overall great first book to kick off a series. You'll want to follow along and see what happens to them, how the relationships will grow and how the story will go, because it has a surprising twist..

I also give a nod to the cinematic writing, it was so easy to picture what was happening and that's a great plus for this genre.

If you want to give a new author a try, don't hesitate and dive in.

I really was not sure what to expect from this book but I really enjoyed it! For his debut book, Michael came out strong and has set the bar high for this series!
Not only do the characters pull you right in, the action and suspense help to keep things moving along. I had no trouble picturing what was happening in my mind. This made it really easy to follow along and simply be in the moment!
If you want to give a new author a chance, want something that flows nicely, has great characters and unique trope twists, then this is the book for you.
I was given this book as an ARC and all opinions are my own!

thank you to hansen for a copy in exchange for an honest review.

the book was overall really good! tyrus' narration was funny and it sounded a lot more human and natural than other narrations, which i really like. the book was a bit slow at some parts but the last 70 pages or so picked up and i was really invested.

my only criticism of this book is melanie and tia. it felt like their own personality traits were being "obsessed" with tyrus, which did bug me. i feel like if we had been able to see more of them as people this book would've been five stars.

i will be tuning in for the next books of the series though!

This is this author's first book and what a great book it is. This is an interesting, engaging story where the author used details to make the story realistic. A story where there is action and suspense. A story where the characters pull you into the story. They are unique, creative and strong and added to the enjoyment of this story. I found this book to be hard to put down but easy to read. The author's writing skills are such that they bring the story to life. This is a really great story and I look forward to reading more from this author. I highly recommend this book.

I like how relatable and realistic the characters are, because usually books overly perfect the characters. For instance: messages are always correct, when does that ever happen in real life? Never. That's when: never. And here it's very much an accurate representation of texting. The characters are all very unique and different, yet they mesh well together. I really liked the progression of the book and the character development.
The plot line was a little slower than I had expected, but overall it was a well rounded book and it was a joy to read.
looking forward to the next one! : )

Michael J Hansen comes out of the gates strong with his debut novel and first in the Celestial Saga series. I’m excited to see where the next book takes us and to watch the transformation Tyrus will undergo. If you enjoy urban fantasy, love triangles, a reluctant hero, and a fun twist on the angel/demon trope, you’ll want to give this one a try!

Though I received an advanced copy of this book, all opinions are my own.

This was a fun book to read and I'm intrigued as to how the characters will continue to develop and where they will take the story. Overall the plot was interesting and the fantastic elements were fairly unique to this series, which was refreshing and less predictable.

I'm excited to watch Hansen continue to improve and develop as a writer. He has written a book with likeable characters and lots of potential as to where the story might lead.

interesting concept

The “guy” point of view was a nice change of pace. I haven’t read too many books that leaned so far into a college guy’s brain. But the girls were too stereotyped to be credible. Plot was pretty typical. Needed editing to weed out some of the description.

It was pretty difficult to follow, along with an MC that was amazingly frustrating.

The first chapter starts off fairly well, setting the stage for a story involving ascended beings, foreshadowing a lot of potential world-building. Then, the story falls completely downhill from there. The story features a protagonist who's blindingly exceptional but seems hellbent on making his own life difficult for no reason.

He never went to class but was afraid of disappointing his parents. He was a genius and could skip grades, but wanted to feel special amongst people his age and make friends...which he didn't bother doing cause he never went to class and only associated with 2 people. Top that off with some shallow dialogue that seemed to sound the same regardless if the discussion was taking place amongst college the same age as the MC or his teachers, as well as several phrases used that highlighted that I'm clearly too old for the target audience of this book. It would be too much of a struggle to keep going.
