MJ Masucci is a steamy romance and romantic suspense author. She lives in Southern New York with her husband and two precocious Siamese cats. She began writing short stories in college and putting ideas down on paper for full length novels. She enjoys all types of sports especially football.
I’m kinda conflicted here 😕. This book is well written and I was mostly able to stay engaged, but the characters were kinda off for me. Gideon was kinda on the creepy side and Avery was super indecisive and whiny.
And the nicknames were so bad. I cringed every time they called each other them 😬.
Hopefully there is an improvement in the next book but I’m not counting on it. I’ve already put the time in so I’ll continue on. We’ll see 🤷
An enjoyable light read if your in need of a spicy palette cleanser. The story was compelling and kept me intrigued . 🥵🥵🥵🥵 spice was dead on. I liked that the spice did not take over the plot. Looking forward to learn more about the characters in the next book
This is the start to the Bound To You series but I will say hold on because once you start it you won’t stop until the last page is turned but keep in mind it will leave you hanging ☹. Gideon sexy as all get out bully to cover up his real feelings for his stepsister although, terrorizing her, teasing her, doesn’t excite and makes him feel things he isn’t yet ready to acknowledge but he knows one thing for sure she is his. Avery is feisty, sweet, hates her stepbrother all he doesn’t is aggravate her, makes her life miserable but she isn’t the pushover he thinks she is and with a best friend Clover in her corner what could go wrong against the two of them, so her stepbrother better watch out. Gideon continues to tell her she will beg for what he must give her of course she allows him to talk until she actually sees what he is offering and the game changes but the push and pull between them will have you getting your bowl of popcorn a comfy seat just to watch. We know why he bullies her because in his head she belongs to him and no other guy better look her way let alone ask her out or touch her because they will have him to deal with but does she get the memo, will he come out telling her why, does she really hate him, or is it that magnetic pull between the two of them that keeps the sparks flying and where are they headed?.

I wanted to DNF this after a few chapters because this takes place when they are both 17 (they turn 18 before they have sex), and that was icky. But I kept with it and wanted to quit because Gideon (the MMC) sounded horrible, talking about ruining her by making everyone hate her and sexually touching her (grooming) until she finally begged him, etc. He was a bad creep, not just a bully. But then it flipped, and he was being written as this guy who was madly in love with her and wanted her but didn't know how to show her. Then it flipped again, sometimes in the same page where he was barking about how he needed her to let him control her and blah blah. But then he was sweet and kind to her, and it was just headache-inducing. It was like the author couldn't decide if he should be a villain or a good guy. There are times when she says "no," and he backs off and respects her wishes, but other times, he just does it anyway because he wants to or thinks she does. So much of this teetered on consensual and noncon.
I agree with other reviewers who said Avery (the FMC) was a pain. She really was. She broke up with him and went back together multiple times. She whined 70% of the time and couldn't seem to think for herself or stand up for herself. She accomplishes nothing and will kiss him one moment, then yell he's an asshole in the same breath. It was irritating.
The back of the book said school, so I thought it was college; it wasn't. It's high school, just FYI.
The plot doesn't go anywhere; maybe there will be resolutions in the next one.
There is more sex than story, so I'm tempted to call it erotica.
This is smut and basically a dirty pleasure. It's not a book you tell your friends about because it's amazing and they HAVE to read it. It's more like the book you keep for yourself when you need a quick dirty fix from the scenes. There is a place for books like that, so I'm not saying it's a bad thing.
Trigger Warnings: pedophilia (adult has sex with 16-year-old), under-age sex, under-age sexual acts, sexual assault (he touches against her wishes), virgin sex (consensual), bullying (he makes it sound like he's threatening to rape her but when she asks he gets sickened by the fact she thought that's what he meant), step-sibling sex, drinking, plot to rape with date-rape drug (MMC saves MFC before it takes effect), Date-rape drug being used (friend gets hit with it but is also saved), drug use (side character smoke pot), gambling, I think that's it
I swear I’m not trying to be mean or overly critical of the author. I’m just trying to be 100% honest with how I experienced this book…
I really thought I would like this one, but unfortunately I did not. I officially DNF’d after 157 pages. The dialogue was very cringey and in no way resembled how real people in general would talk, much less 18 year old seniors in high school. There were some major editing issues too that I tried to ignore, but it got so bad and painfully obvious, that I had to stop. It actually started to make the story confusing because the wrong words were used and/or were missing from sentences altogether. Lastly, the cherry that topped the cake and ultimately sealed the deal for me to call this story quits was the way the “spice” was written. Once our FMC and MMC got intimate, it was so anticlimactic and unclear that I couldn’t tell if or how they had actually done the deed! Like it almost seemed like someone writing about how they think sex would work, but have not actually had sex themselves so the full dynamics of how it works were not understood and therefore couldn’t be conveyed. I’m sure this isn’t the case for the author, but it’s the only way I can describe how these scenes came across to me. I’m sorry, but even though the premise seems interesting enough, I cannot recommend this book as something that a mature adult would enjoy.
I absolutely loved Gideon and his ridiculous self. He was over the top jealous and obsessively in love with Avery. Avery is his step sister who hates him. Avery was also likeable and I adored her best friend Clover. She was a spit fire and it was hilarious when she would show up Gideon.
This was a lighter bully read to me that turned into a forbidden romance. Sometimes I have a hard time with Bully romances if I feel the H or Hs do things that I think is unforgivable and crossed too many lines. While Gideon could be an obnoxious jerk, I don't think he crossed the line of unforgivable or Avery made to look like a doormat. They had a good push and pull dynamic. We find out early the reason Gideon was bullying her is because he is infatuated with her and doesn't want another guy looking her way let alone touching her. The love scenes were scorching hot and the chemistry off the charts.

This is the first book that I have read from this author and is the first book in this Bound To You series. This is a taboo romance, a forbidden step brother romance read has some dark bully moment inside.
Gideon is one alpha male that is very possessive and very macho especially when it comes to his step sister. Right from the off he is a scary dude and he does everything in his power to push her away and ignore these feelings that he is developing. Avery hates her step brother and after her mother remarried she now has no choice but to be around him.
These characters have a push and pull kind of relationship and they have a lot of chemistry between each other too, but things are changing right before their eyes. This book is full of steamy sexy moments and This dark bully romance book with a taboo feel to it starts of great but also ends in a cliffhanger and I'm so excited for book 2.
This is the 1st book of the Bound to You trilogy. Avery and Gideon are step siblings with a push and pull relationship. Avery's mom marries her new love and along with a new stepfather comes a stepbrother as well. Gideon(stepbrother) is a mean, rich, and arrogant alphahole. Avery who is starting life over in a world full of rich people is trying to find a way to fit in. Gideon's constant bullying towards Avery becomes a thin line of love and hate between. She hates that he is so mean to her, but loves that he is attracted to her because she is attracted to him. The story is a bit fast paced because she quickly loses her V card to him and it becomes instalove. They both are not sure how their relationship will survive in a web of lies. This book is SPICY and i cannot wait for the 2nd book!!!.

Gideon sets out to ruin Avery from the moment she moves into his home and he takes the bullying too far at times. He and his three friends usually share their girls and he has told them that once he breaks Avery he'll pass her around. What he didn't expect was to become possessive of her. Avery is tired of being Gideon's punching bag and she gives as good as she gets. She finally has enough and tells his dad that he's treating her badly and he almost doesn't receive his precious car. Eventually, the bullying turns into lust and then into more. Then they have a forbidden relationship that they have to hide from everyone. The book ends on a cliffhanger and in some places, it's a bit predictable. It will be interesting to see what happens in book two.
I do not typically enjoy bully romance or high school-themed books but I gave this a try. I am not disappointed in the least. And have found a few new “tropes” I might enjoy more! Gideon is so freaking mean and the perfect example of the “they are only mean because they like you” crap you hear as a kid! I disliked his character from the start, it took me a lot to decide that he was worth investing my reading time in. Avery, that poor child! LOL, is mouthy and holds her own to all his antics. There is a lot of build-up and a lot of tension in this book, but it is worth it. I truly enjoyed this book and enjoyed book 2. I cannot wait for book 3 to come out because I will be devouring it, too!
I volunteered to read this ARC for an honest review. This is a dark story about Gideon and Avery. He's a spoiled rich kid who hides behind the jerk persona to save face. When his dad marries Avery's mom, it changes everything. He sees her as a challenge and bullies her for his own reasons. Avery is upset since she's been uprooted from the life she knew when her mom remarried. But she never excepted to develop feelings for Gideon with the way he acts. But their time together is coming to and end, their parents are due back from there honeymoon. She wants to be public but he doesn't.

Beautifully Ruined by MJ Masucci is the first book of Bound to You Series. This starts the story of Gideon and Avery. Avery was up rooted from her life after her mother remarries. Gideon is now her step-brother who has his own issues. Gideon is a kid with a sliver spoon in his mouth but he has issues and when he meets Avery he becomes obsessed with her. But, he doesn't show his true feeling towards her and bullies her. So, Avery just knows him as a bully. Avery does have her best friend Clover who I felt tries to be there for her. This book does end with a cliffhanger setting us up for the next installment in this series.
So, this is your typical rich step brother bully trope. Gotta love that story line, right? This one has a lot going for it, I was into the story, loved how he was in touch with his feelings from the get go. The one thing I hate is when a indie author doesn't have a good proof-reader. The errors in this one where terrible. It wasn't just missing words or word choice, it was changing him to her when the male character was talking or vice versa. Stuff like that. Bugs me to no end, I hate having to correct that in my head to read a book. Would have gotten more stars but for that issue.
M.J - if you need a proof-reader, let me know. I love your stuff and would love to be a beta reader!
Avery's mom has found a new love and married him. But what she didn't expect was the crude, mean and bullying stepbrother that came along with her new Stepdad. So when she forced to go to a new school with Gideon trying to ruin and control her, will she survive her stepbrother? Or will she fall for him and give up her virginity? UT can love and a relationship come with it? Keep reading. Now on to the next.

This is the first in a new series, and what an amazing beginning this is! Avery’s life is turned upside down when her mom remarries, and she is faced with Gideon, her stepbrother. Gideon has his own demons, and hides behind his feeling for her by bullying her. This story ends in a cliffhanger, and I cannot wait to read the second part. This is a well written story which is action packed, with bullying, emotions, twists, challenges, and is a steamy and entertaining page turner. Omg the step brother bullying/ enemies to lovers was good. I love the back and forth between Avery and Giddy. Giddy is such a jerk with avery but you find out that he has always cared for avery. Avery is not about Giddy pretty much hate his guts. But the spice omg is Freakin good. Only thing is it feels a little long. I love how it focus on how their relationship works and you see all the struggles they go through. I wish this story was a little faster and not so much detail. The way Giddy takes care of Avery is so sweet. Also think he was such a jerk in the beginning and I love how Avery made him work for it.

A stepbrother, high school, bully romance where the hero is jealous and possessive of the heroine and the spice is top-notch. I really enjoyed the first book in the Bound to You series where Avery is Gideon’s new stepsister and he’s set out to ruin her. Avery doesn’t take it lying down and soon Gideon and Avery’s relationship goes from bullying to forbidden. While this book was slightly predictable and it does end on a cliffhanger I’m curious to see what twists and turns are in story for Gideon and Avery in book two.
The bully aspect is a little lacking in the beginning you hear the two MCs kind of talking about being mean and calling each other names, but this was just talked about like it was in the past when they first met, so they just continue to call each other names 🤷🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤔. Idk I didn’t really like it or by into their relationship. They are both whinny bitches 🤷🏻♀️ sorry not sorry. I had a hard time sticking to this book I actually stopped and read another book that was great then came back to this downer.
Ehhh.. the heroine just got on my nerves. The way she called him Giddy.. ughh!
I didn't mind Gideon. Although the control thing was weird for a high schooler, right? Most high schoolers.. never mind. I'm going to keep it PG for the sake of this review actually being approved but COME ON.!
There may be some major character-building in the remaining two books in this trilogy but I can't. I'm not feeling the chemistry. I'm not feeling Avery and her whining. I'm not feeling Gideon and his supposed obsession. I'm not feeling any of it so I'm moving on to something else.
In this book we meet Avery whose mother just married Gideon’s father. Gideon and his friends like to bully and torment Avery. He was a bully to her to cover up his true feelings for her. He wants Avery to be his. Avery despises him due to his bullying but quickly learns the true reason for him making her life miserable. It was so sweet watching them fall in love with each other. I enjoyed this bully romance because Gideon acted out because he was conflicted sometimes bully romances go so far it’s hard for me to believe the girl can forgive. This book ends on a cliffhanger.
A bully, taboo step sibling romance. Avery and Gideon started by not being able to stand each other to knowing they can’t live without each other despite the consequences. This book locked me in from the beginning. I can’t wait to read the second because holy guacamole cliffhanger!!! I can’t wait to read more from this author and definitely a reread book.
“When I first saw her, all I could think of is a thousand ways to ruin her, but all I want to do now is protect her.”
They started out as enemies but the line between love & hate is getting blurry.
What an awesome 5 star read. Gideon & Avery's story is absolutely brilliant & will take the reader on a rollercoaster ride of emotions. The dynamic between Gideon & Avery + the side characters is what makes this story work. I highly recommend giving their story a read & I can't wait till the next book comes out.

This was a good story: I loved the enemies to lovers trope. in this book. Once they finally got over that hurdle and were honest about their feelings things seemed to be looking up. I liked Avery and Gideon together even if what others may think is Taboo or what not. This book definitely takes you through the motions but how much one person can tolerate ? is it worth it for love? This book ends with a cliffhanger . But overall was a good read.
I haven't read any books from the author, I started this book hoping that there would be some different story and some bullying, angst, and emotions but I am disappointed it was hurried and there wasn't any buildup of the story or the characters it's just like the movie culpa mia, left the book at the end it did not capture the attention and maintained it. it was very unclear, did not like it at all, I think Giedon's character would have been really good if it would have been built up more
Wow!! This book was absolutely AMAZING!! I didn’t want it to end and the chemistry between Gideon and Avery is amazing! They are so good for each other and they get each other. They both have had things go on and if people find out they will never understand but they are not blood related so why should it matter??
LOVED this story! This is the first book by MJ Masucci that I have read, and I can't believe I missed out on this fantastic author! Her characters are relatable and you want to be Avery's friend. Gideon is slowly winning me over! He still has a lot to make up for! The world-building is seamless and you run through all of the emotions! It's EXCELLENT! Can't wait to dive into the next book
The moment Avery walked into Gideon's life he knew she was going to be the one for him. Just one problem, she is his step sister and he shouldn't have her. So, instead of being the nice sibling he does what ever guy does when they want to hide their feelings and spends the summer making her miserable. He constantly bullies her and it makes her hate him. But when they go back to school and their parents are away on a honeymoon the game changes.
Now Gideon's mission is to make her his. With subtle remarks, touches and glances he claims she will beg for him but Avery is no fool and she will not beg. She flips the script and advances on him and this is where their love story begins. The constant push and pull between these to is hot and spicy. They know what they are doing is forbidden but they can't help the way they feel. But will they get caught? Can they really hide from everyone?
Beautifully Ruined was hot, spicy, intense and even antagonizing at some points. Forbidden romance is becoming my favorite type of romance lately and MJ is helping solidify that statement. This is a bully romance so beware Gideon definitely isn't nice at first but he does make up for all the wrong. It also hangs on a cliffhanger so make sure you have book 2 ready to go because if your like me your going to waste no time diving right in.
