Kayiru: The Thread
Why.. What?
All the things that we refer to as “I have been practicing this since ages” started at some point. Just because a practice has been in existence for long, does not mean that it is right. It is important to understand the reasoning behind any practice. Is it a bit confusing?
Many of us have a practice of applying turmeric to door frames in our houses. This is a custom that has been in practice for a long time. The reason behind this practice is that since turmeric has anti-bacterial properties, this helps support the health of the residents in the house. But now in many houses, the door frames are painted yellow. Obviously, this does not offer any health benefits. This is the reason why we need to question and understand the reason behind any practice.
Even in this story, a person tries to teach a new habit to Chezhian. Let’s see what was the practice and why he tried to teach the practice, and also if Chezhian’s mother agreed with the practice.

Got this book for free in the 2025 Chennai book fair. Finished reading on the way home. The author added too many references.
The same batter is a different form.
The story was easy to predict so as the ending.

It is a very nice short story. We need to teach our children that there is no difference between human beings, regardless of caste
