“This book was exactly what I was looking for. A breath of fresh air, as it tells the tale of a commoner thrust into a world of lords and vampires. It spans many years with many historical events, times, and places not like your average twilight telling in a high school back ground. I would recommend this book to anyone.” — Sanders

I hate books, especially fantasy books, and I hate writing. Just checking to see if you’re paying attention. :-) All I want to do is write and read. Actually, I listen to audiobooks. I listen to at least one a month and review it. Mostly fantasy books. I listen while I exercise. This has two benefits. 1) I don’t feel guilty for taking time to sit down and read a book but I still get to hear a great story. It is the most time saving way to keep up with the latest books in my genre. 2) It makes my workout go by quicker. Win - win!
My best days are the ones I get to spend writing. Then the best of the best days are when a creative twist for my stories hits me, sometimes it feels like an actual slap to the face. My heart races and I know at once that it is the perfect fit for my story. Super fun and what makes writing worthwhile.
Much to my surprise, learning about marketing has been fun, challenging, yet fun. I am so glad to be self-published as this gives me many more options for reaching my readers.
I was born in Colorado and raised in a small town of eight hundred people. I received a masters of science from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Living in the southeast was an eye-opening experience. I graduated with my Doctorate of Psychology from the University of the Rockies. I specialized in criminology and justice studies. Never a dull moment and VERY interesting to learn about the criminal psyche.
I’m often asked if my degrees influenced my writing and they certainly did. In my masters program I studied under Dr. Hood. He was a leader in the psychology of religion. Studying early Christian history greatly influenced my 3rd novel, Of Gods and Goddess.
Restorative Justice (RJ) influenced my writing as well. For example, it is how Vallachia chooses to lead her people and deal with her “enemies”. Some might say that there is no such thing as an enemy, they only exist in fiction stories or in our own minds. I hope to incorporate even more RJ into future books.
My extensive travels and at times living overseas has greatly added to my writing material. Being an American Peace Corps Volunteer in Jordan helped me to create the world that I’m currently writing about, A Woman’s World. My time studying in China and visiting family in Norway (just to name a few of my travels) have all helped expand my world view, which of course helps my creativity. I am very blessed, my life experiences have given me rich material to write about.
Something else that you may find interesting is that I’m dyslexic. I was diagnosed in 2nd grade, as I could not read. My parents were told that I was “slow” and “not intelligent”. They said that I would not be able to graduate from high school. Sometimes it pays NOT to listen to the “experts”. My education also helped give me the confidence and practice that I needed to be able to write for a living. Don’t believe limits that others set for you (or ones you set for yourself)! The sky is the not even a limit anymore!!
On the outskirts of the Eastern Roman Empire in 1260 A.D. Vallachia is surprised to discover that she has fallen in love with her childhood friend, Teller. Her life is complicated by a mysterious and powerful noble who has decided that Vallachia should be the one to marry his son, Elijah. Vallachia loves her humble life, her family and small community. But the only future she could have imagined, as well as her wonderfully simple life disappears. She finds herself in a struggle to figure out the rules of a strange new world she has been thrown into—the violent and deadly world of vampires. She longs for her old life and the one she truly loves remains out of reach, as she embarks on an inconceivable adventure. Of Lords and Commoners is a paranormal romance and the first in a series. This book is dramatic fiction with a realistic tone. It tells an alternative history of Medieval Europe, creatively blending history with fantasy. This story takes the reader through the latter part of the Byzantine Empire and into the dark times of the Black Plague, where Vallachia finds herself fighting to defend mankind.
What a compellingly written book! "Of Lords and Commoners" is the first-person tale of Vallachia, a poor peasant girl unwittingly turned into a vampire. She is part Little Dorrit, part Alice of the Resident Evil franchise. Vallachia hates what she's become, but with a stiff upper lip she soon learns to make allowances. It is perhaps fitting that she eventually finds herself living in London, her resolve under the circumstances being rather a British one. Author Lynne Hill-Clarke does a believable job of telling her story in the character's own words and voice. This keeps the story very much in the here-and-now, even though considerable time may have elapsed between some of the scenes.
Loved the beginning because there wasn't any waiting to get into it. It got my attention from the start. Loved how it took place long ago, but old customs were incorporated and defined as well. About halfway through though I felt it was a little stagnant. Not a whole lot happened that was jaw dropping, but enough to keep me going. I thought the spot it ended was a poor choice. I almost felt it dropped mid paragraph. But will continue to read. Hoping more happens in vals love life as well. Overall, I do recommend.
Although this is not my typical genre this book was enchanting. The flow was impeccable moving you through the chapters smoothly and effortlessly. Her character building was superb. Each character well received and meaningful. The storyline delivered and made it a true page turner that was hard to put down. I must say I am headed to the next book with anticipation. A great book
The story takes place over many years and goes in an interesting direction. While there is a romance, it is not the typical one you get in a story like this and is quite complicated. I wasn't sure what to expect at the end of this first part and want to learn more.
This novel was different but in an intriguing way that keeps you reading. Nothing turned out like I thought it would. There are some great characters that I enjoyed very much.
This is one of the best books that I have read this year so far. It was so good I couldn't put the book down. It has been awhile since I have read a super natural book and WOW.
Val was happy with her life she was taking care of her family and was hoping that one day soon her best friend would ask her to marry him. Then the next thing she knows her whole world that she knew was turned upside down and not by her choice.
Elijah was new to the small village at least that is what it seemed it just that he was hidden for quite a few years. When he saw Val in the village he was fascinated with her and he wanted her for himself. He saw a side of her that he never seen in another women. She was so kind, caring and always so selfless. She was the women he wanted he was tired of all the women who just wanted him for his wealth or power. He knew that he had to stay away from her as she would never want to be with him. When the summer festival came around he invited Val to accompany him.
Elijah and Val became friends but Elijah wanted more and his father finally got tired of waiting for Elijah to do something about it. As Elijah knew she was in love with Teller. His father did not see it that way he wanted his son to be happy. To make his son happy he would do want he had to do.
This book is a turn pager one you can't put down. The things that Val and Elijah go through and still you just think will something finally happen?

Synopsis: The only future Vallachia could have imagined, as well as her wonderfully simple life disappears when she finds herself in a struggle to figure out the rules of a strange new world.
She longs for her old life and the one she truly loves remains out of reach, as she embarks on an inconceivable journey.
Vallachia quickly finds herself on the wrong side of a brewing battle for vampire domination. Not knowing who to trust could have fatal consequences … for millions of people.
Review: Overall, I liked the story. I felt like the characters were well developed and the world building was well detailed. I really liked how the book flowed and how smooth it was going between chapters. The storyline also kept me intrigued from beginning to end.
However, I did feel like the pacing was a bit slow in spots and that I felt like the interactions between some characters were a bit stiff.
When I had to put the book aside for other pressing matters, I couldn’t wait to get back to it. I kept thinking that Val was rather delusional thinking her life could get back to normal after all that she had been through. Even when she realized that she needed to leave her family behind, she still pined after her old boyfriend, Teller. Sometimes I wanted to put my hands through the book and shake her telling her to ‘get with it, girl’! I felt sorry for Elijah waiting for so long to find someone perfect for him and instead, Val left him to go back to her old life thinking that things would be as they were. (But you can never go back.) All in all, I thought this was well written. We see through the eyes of Val in this first book of the series which is a good thing as it would have been very confusing trying to keep up with changing characters POV plus the wide time span. The characters were well fleshed out, the changing landscape was well described and the battles were easy to imagine. It is easy for me to highly recommend this book and I am anxious to be off to the next book, which I don’t have to wait for since I have the whole series at my disposal.
I enjoyed reading this book but felt like it was missing something at some point it just dragged a bit ,.... I’m looking forward to reading the next one see if things pick up i do like the time it took place and overall writer paints a pretty vivid picture as to where and when it took place .. action part was lacking and not to fond of how it ended but Let’s see how the next book goes ... also I read a little at night it kept me interested but not to the point where I couldn’t put it down
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed reading this well written first book in a new series by a new author for me.
The characters were well developed and the world building was interesting. The story kept me wanting more and i did find it hard to put down at times.
The fact that it was a cliff hanger annoyed me but i did go into the story knowing it was part of a series. I do want to read the rest of the series so the author has done her job well!
I would definitely recommend this to friends who like this genre.
I planned on reading a little but before bed, got stuck and ended up finishing at 3am. Excellent book! And VERY well written. I can't even remember the last time I read a book with no spelling or grammar errors. Well paced, at no point will your ADD kick in to distract you from this story. ;)
This was the most intriguing piece of boring I’ve ever read. It was a slog.. a grind. But I just interesting enough that I didn’t want to stop because I needed to know what happened. It was good. But I’m not going to continue because I don’t want to torture myself anymore.
It’s hard to explain. It was a good story that was written well but was also boring as hell
This story captures you from the start, I loved it! It is about vampires, has romance, and the storyline is spread over the years but has a lot of twists and turns that make it very entertaining. You want to know what happens with the different characters in the stories. I highly recommend this series as it has something for everyone. It's hard to set aside, once you start.
Great characters, and you can see and taste the scenery it's so realistic! It pulls you in and has you follow a rollercoaster ride of emotion and romance! I wish it was payday so I could get the next one!!!
Good writing . Good characters. Had a nice flow to the story a little jumpy at times but considering the subject matter many years necessarily need to be skipped. Looking forward to the rest of the series.
Although I have never read a book about vampires before this I must say I enjoyed it. I am ready for the second book especially to find out what happened to Teller and to see if he ever tried to find his first love.
Wow a different type of vampire story that has has romance, hatred, conflict, action, uses some historical time periods and keeps the reader immersed in the story. Love the main and secondary characters.
I don't know if I can do justice to the author or the characters of this amazing story! For sure this is a must read. Especially if you like historical paranormal romance.
Engaging characters with an interesting story line set in the twelve and thirteen hundreds. As the story progresses, you want to find out where their lives will go.

I am not sure how I would really classify this one. Not really Vampire but is, not really historical but is. Lavish very much, likeable characters yes. I love this one and would highly recommend it.
