This four-week study on the book of Ruth is an in-depth look at the book of Ruth and how this small book points to the gospel. The short book of Ruth is packed with grace and truth for every season of life. It is a reminder that God is present in the waiting and the ordinary.
It is full of gospel-hope that God is working behind the scenes in ways that we could never imagine to sovereignly and providentially bring about His good plan for His people. This isn't your ordinary study of Ruth. This isn't just about a love story between Ruth and Boaz, but about the ultimate love story between God and His people.
Poverty to Provision. Brokenness to Beauty. Reproach to Redemption. Famine to Fullness. Grief to Grace.
This is the gospel story seen in the book of Ruth. Each day includes a Scripture passage assignment from the book of Ruth, commentary on the passage, and approximately three study questions. These questions can also be used for group discussion if the study is done in a group.
3.5 rounded up Ruth: Fields of Grace is a workbook style Bible Study. The study lasts 4 weeks and provides a general overview of the book of Ruth. If you are just looking to get to know the book of Ruth or brush up on it, this is a great study. If you are looking for in a deep dive into the book to include culture references, original Hebrew, and bold personal questions, this might not be the study for you. I personally enjoy the deeper dive. I prefer to have my faith and ideals challenged. I want God to surprise me with newfound treasures and fresh adventure. I did not find that here. I know I know. Everyone is different in where they are with their faith and this study could certainly be beneficial for some. There definitely were a couple of discoveries I made along this journey. I just found this study to be very broad and sunday school-y. I longed for more.
I have done two Daily Grace Co. studies now and have noticed that a the end of each week of each study, the same questions are asked: 1. Paraphrase the passage from this week. 2. What did you observe from this week's text about God and His character? 3. What does this week's passage reveal about the condition of mankind and about yourself? 4. How does this passage point to the gospel? 5. How should you respond to this passage? What is the personal application? 6. What specific action steps can you take this week to apply this passage?
These are very good questions. God can ABSOLUTELY and has used these questions to get me to think and act further. They are just VERY general to use for every week and for both studies: Lamentations and Ruth (quite different). I do fully respect and continue to purchase from the Daily Grace Co. I adore their aesthetic decor, mugs, shirts, and bible study tools. I will be trying more of their studies out in the future. They are very cost efficient. I got this one for $5.
The book of Ruth is a beautiful foreshadowing of the One who redeemed our hearts. This study nicely pointed to Jesus on the pages of Ruth, but I would’ve preferred reflection questions that were centered more on the text and less on myself.
3.5⭐️ rounded up. This study from the Daily Grace Co. is not an in-depth study. It’s more like a journal with study notes. The passage is broken up into weeks and then there is a page or two of notes. The study questions are fairly general for application. I like the book of Ruth, but it did feel like this set up was one week too long.
Pros: The format of this book was wonderful. I love how the book of Ruth was broken down into small parts. It's easier to dig deep with just a few verses at a time. The questions were relevant and great for group discussion. The book is beautiful as well!!
Cons: This author has a different theology than my church. But besides that there were some flaws that I could not get past.
First, The author blames Naomi for the death of her husband and sons. The book says Naomi made a bad decision leaving the promsed land and therfore bad things happened. There is no evidence in the passages that God was angry at her or that she even wanted to move to Moab. Woman had very little power in Biblical times. Even if she wanted to stay in Bethlehem her voice would not matter. Women did not have these choices.
Second, the author compares Boaz to Jesus over and over and over. Boaz did not do the type of redeeming that Jesus does. One can make parallels but Christians should be careful to say humans can be so similar to Jesus. One mention of Boaz redeeming Ruth's rights in society would have been enough. Boaz is a mere human and does nothing close to the saving that Jesus does.
Lastly, for a book with the title "Fields of Grace" it seemed to focus much more on punishment from God than the grace of God.
This book may be great for some churches but our group disagreed with a number of points. BUT, we still ended up with a wonderful, deep, encouraging study.
This is a four week Bible study on the book of Ruth. Each week has five study days and some weekly wrap-up questions. Each individual study day has a selected Bible reading, two pages of reading in the study, and three questions for reflection. I really enjoyed using this study to delve into the book of Ruth. I have read Ruth several times before but had never done a study on the book. I loved seeing how Ruth's redemption story points to Jesus as our perfect redeemer. A wonderful book of the Bible to show how Jesus can redeem anyone in His way and in His time. I thought this was a helpful study and I would recommend it for anyone looking to better understand the book of Ruth and God's redemptive love for us.
I've studied the book of Ruth this last month, and God has taught me so much through this inductive study by Kristin Schmucker. "Poverty to Provision. Brokenness to Beauty. Reproach to Redemption. Famine to Fullness. Grief to Grace." This study weaves Hebrew word study, personal reflection and application, and Scripture memory together cohesively and meaningfully.
The Daily Grace Co. writes and publishes sound, Biblical teaching. I can't wait to dig into my next Daily Grace study next week!
-Keep doing the next right thing w a positive attitude bc God works through the simple faith of ordinary people, like Ruth. -Bitterness prevents us from seeing how God is working; He is always for us and not against us. God empties us so He can fill us abundantly. -God doesn’t need us to fulfill His plans, and yet He invites us in. Be used like Boaz and show grace to others like God shows us. -God may delay fulfilling our desires so that when He brings it to pass, we will know it was His sovereignty. We don’t know what the future holds but we know the One who holds the future is holding us. -When you can’t see His hand, remember His heart.
What a great study for right after Easter! I’ve never studied this book of the Bible on its own, and I’m so glad I did! I am in a similar time of life where we are putting our faith in God and seeking the guidance from those around us. If you’re looking for a good study to help you dive deeper into this book of the Bible, highly recommend this one!
Having worked through this devotional over the last couple of months I found myself having a deeper understanding of the book of Ruth and how God beautifully orchestrated Ruth and Boaz’s eventual marriage. The study was well thought out and just the right length per day. I would recommend it to others looking for a nice devotional study with deeper insights into the book of Ruth.
Loved this study. I've been in Ruth for 12 non-consecutive months and I still learned new things here. The best part is it just dives straight into scripture without useless filler anecdotes and every day is a perfectly manageable amount of time, but never something you feel like you're rushing through. Very thoughtfully written and good questions as well.
The photos and entire aesthetic of this Bible study are stunning! The only negative was that I found many of the questions were asked in a way that was difficult to answer. They could have been formulated better to prompt discussion.
I absolutely loved this study of Ruth. It was beautifully done and made me examine the book of Ruth in different ways than I had before. I’m so sad to be done with it!
Ruth: Fields of Grace by The Daily Grace Co.: 4.5/5⭐️ This study by The Daily Grace Co. is such an amazing way to truly understand the book of Ruth. The ONLY thing I will say, I wish they had different questions each week because I found myself having the same answer for a lot of the questions. I feel like this study was more of a reminder than for growth (unless you’re a newly devoted Christian). I love how there’s so much emphasis on God’s divine providence and faithfulness. During a huge transition in my and my family’s life, this study helped remind me of God’s goodness in the unknown. This study helps you deeper understand the book of Ruth and how admirable she and Boaz were. I usually do Bible studies with others, but this time around, I tackled this one by myself but if you do have a group of women to study it with, do it! The more insight you get from others who share the same faith, the easier it is to understand The Word.
