This had the potential to be really great but it just couldn’t get there. I really struggled on what to rate this because some of it was fun and hot as fuck, but then other times it felt sterile. It had the spirit to be sexy and I do think with time her writing will loosen up a bit bc the base is there. Like these couple quotes were a great time:
“You did so good, Evelyn. So beautiful.” He holds his drenched hand in front of my face, and I extend my tongue, but he pulls away. “I’m selfish, Evelyn. This is mine.” I watch as his lips close around his fingers and he closes his eyes on a groan. “Fuck. You’re delicious.”
I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want to hurt her though, turn that ass red, and wreck that beautiful face with tears.
“I can’t wait to tie you up, pet. I want you helpless to do anything but take what I give you. I want to use your body like my own toy”
It also feels like she did a lot of research on D/s dynamics and just wanted to write everything she learned in this. While I do really appreciate that it is done with care in ways a lot of other romance doesn’t, it comes off a bit much. Also there was a scene that felt silly goofy like nobody is telling themselves “The fact that women feel shame over something natural that their body does makes me angry at the entirety of the patriarchy and purity culture” after a woman squirts on their face lmao. Like sir you just had her hand down your pants to show her how hard it made you be fr. I will definitely read from this author again though bc I really think I could like her writing.

This book is getting five stars for a few reasons but one of the main ones is the fact that it grabbed me in 61 or so pages. The formula used to write this short story was expertly done. Sometimes with short fiction you feel dropped into the middle of something with little information. The set up for this offered background succinctly, making the story feel more genuine. The pacing was perfect and it wrapped up in a realistic manner.
I’ve read a lot of smut that leans more into being as dirty as possible and that often results in eye-roll worthy dirty talk and a lack of connection between the characters. I’m a character-driven reader regardless of the genre so in order for me to enjoy any type of smut there needs to be connection and respect. When it comes to short stories many authors miss the mark- tending to use the limited pages they have to jam as much sex as possible. This author took the time to build that connection and it made ALL the difference.
If you’re looking for some quick, smutty fun that can be read in under an hour that doesn’t sacrifice the important stuff then I wholeheartedly recommend this tastefully done and well-written novella. The only regret you’re likely to have is that you don’t get more time with Evelyn and Damien. I could have happily read a full-length book about these characters and their world. I can’t wait to check out some other novellas by this author!

This was short, spicy and too the point! I liked the inlusion of a plus size MC, especially in a smutty romance. The BDSM was really well done, although this wasn't something that really had a plot or a full arc. But if you liked Katee Robert, especially her Wicked Villains books, this might be a good read for you!
