Kenna Everett is the owner of the only bar in Zodiac Cove, and as a former party girl, she’s worked hard to become someone the town respects. That means keeping her head down and not getting involved in anything magic-related. But all that changed the day Galen Wilder walked into her place of business and touched her. When the magic between them caused a fiery blaze to erupt from her hands, she could no longer deny that she was the descendant of Leo.
Galen Wilder is the quiet Aquarius with a soft heart—for everyone except Kenna. As the resident paranormal researcher, he’s always had a fascination with magic that made him an outsider, but he’d rather observe than participate in fighting the curse that plagues their island. Especially when he’s been partnered with the one person he can’t stand.
But when the curse begins infecting the residents of Zodiac Cove, Kenna and Galen have no choice other than to work together. Their combined powers are the only thing that can combat the curse’s mind-controlling smoke. But if they can’t learn to set aside their differences and learn to trust each other, they have no hope of saving anyone, least of all themselves. Because the curse knows they’re a threat, and it’s not interested in getting inside their heads.
This is my favorite couple I absolutely love the bond between Galen and Kenna. I really loved how the author hinted at how the fix to each other in subtle ways for example him knowing how to help her through her anxiety and not make her feel bad about like her medication and her being super overprotective of him or small spoiler ahead... when their magic entwined but didn't become one singular color like every other couple. This couple in my opinion had the best chemistry and the best everything overall to be honest. Plus Galen is so precious I love him
The fourth book in the series, while it probably could be read as a standalone, each relies on events from the other so I would recommend reading the previous books before diving into this one
CW: toxic relationship (past), physical abuse by an ex (strangulation, past), anxiety, panic attack (on-page), death of a parent in childbirth (past), emotional and physical abuse by a parent (past), PTSD, violence
I would recommend if you're looking for (SPOILERS)
-m/f paranormal elements -enemies to lovers -hate how attracted to you I am -horny magic -small town
A heavier read than the previous books, Galen and Kenna both overcome a lot of trauma to be able to trust each other and to trust enough to fall in love. A mix of adventure, romance, a plenty of steam, both Galen and Kenna slowly became vulnerable and opened up to the other about their pasts.
The sexual tension between these too was fiery (pun intended) and I kept turning the page as these two tried to fight it, as the horny magic worked against them forcing them to admit what they truly wanted, each other.
I'm so intrigued to see how this series is going to go, Sonia is not making it easy for this group.
I absolutely loved my return to Zodiac Cove. This is the story of Galen and Kenna and these two don't have it easy. First off, Kenna's power is fire and whenever these two touch, she sets things on fire. Galen also turns invisible which isn't the easiest power to master either. But as these two slowly begin to peel back their hatred and reservations, they start to understand each other and the love they share is fantastic.
It's definitely a lot heavier on the emotional side as we explore parental abuse as well as abuse and stalking from a romantic partner. I loved how Galen was able to show Kenna that not all men are the same and I adored his softer side a lot. A lot.
The mystery of the curse is definitely ramping up as well and the curse is out to get all the couples. I love how Kenna's and Galen's powers worked together and the breakthrough they had with the curse was very welcome. The setback was also very poignant as we were so close but not close enough. I'm excited to see what the next book and couple will bring.
I love how we the readers arent kept in the dark about the grave issue that has kept each couple apart for long. But also neither is each MC!! Absolutely love how it's addressed early in the story for the reader, and then actually discussed and either sorted or brings the MC to an understanding. Usually this is revealed by 3/4 into a book, which is annoying but Sonia hasn't with each couple, she just gets right into the story.
Loved Galen so sweet and innocent but once that innocence wore off wheew! Favorite couple and story!
