A werewolf walks into a vampire bar… ouch.

Vampire enforcer Angelo has enough problems already, and a tall, dark, and irritating alpha werewolf is the last thing he needs.

With his cheating, murderous mate on the run, Jack’s looking for help from the local authorities—who assign Angelo to solve the problem quickly.

They don’t have anything in common on paper, but sharing magical compatibility, a sense of humor, and a common goal can build a bond—whether mundane or otherwise. Even when another bond’s impossible…

Warning: Contains magical attack scorpions, knotting, and a vampire who’s desperate to avoid ruining his suit, falling in love, or other catastrophes. Spoiler alert: He falls in love. Does he ruin his suit, though? Read and find out! Happy ending guaranteed.

Very rushed plot, the relationship development went from 0 to sex in under a day, no character development (no time for that), stereotype-y MCs.

So this was basically a insta love story between a big and strong werewolf alpha and a small but equally strong, also fierce and stylish vampire. They were catching bad guys and at the same time falling in lust.

There were a few sweet moments.

The way the author resolved the main issue left a bad taste, though. I get that this is fantasy but... really? There was no better solution?

Hmmm I waited the whole book for an awesome quote I remembered from a review, and it turns out that it was from another book (which I don't remember). Yay. Go me.

Damn. A fun and fleshed-out plot. Chemistry and good sex scenes between a vampire and werewolf. AND it’s a novella?! Sign me up.

Eliot Grayson is such a good author. I love this series and the inclusion of a variety of supernatural beings. I especially love the increasing focus on vampires as MCs as well! Most of the MCs feel somewhat similar from book to book, but it’s actually something I really like. It means the fun and irreverent humor of one MC, the strong yet kind nature of the other, and their shared chemistry is present in every book. I’m into it.

Oh that was a load of fun!

I really love Eliot's Mismatched Mates series and this is an adjacent spin-off from that focusing more on the vampire side of life than the werewolf packs.

However, in this case, we get a bit of both, with a tale about evil exes who do bad things and leave a sup' stuck with a mating bond they don't want.

Angelo is fab, he's one of Fenwick's enforcers and his somewhat smaller than expected size has led to a lot of people underestimating him, but he's got a snark and a somewhat soft approach when it comes to people being screwed over.

So when werewolf Jack comes hunting the mate who's screwed him over, Angelo isn't that bothered when he's tasked with helping him out.

With guest appearances from the Armitage clan, including everyone's favourite pair of bonkers magic users Nate and Arik, this was a delight!

Too bad he was a werewolf, because he looked damn good when he smiled like that.

Aaaaah too short! A cute & sexy vampire vs wolf shifter romance, an unlikely connection, typical Armitage shenanigans, fun action and sweet revenge.

Well, fuck me sideways. Werewolves usually didn’t smell great to me, mostly because their blood made me want to puke. I had the feeling Jack’s blood might be delicious. Fuck me sideways twice.

For such a short read, it still felt complete (even if I wanted more). Lovable characters, plenty of banter, a fun plot to go with the sexiness, and I LOOOVED seeing Nate and Arik again, with their crazy giant magic scorpions (seriously, guys??)

“Oh!” Nate said. His mouth dropped open and he gave Jack a quick up-and-down once-over. And then he leaned around Jack and peeked at me, dark eyes gleaming. And winked. The little fucker winked.
“Nice going.”

An easy read that leaves me wanting more, but still very very happy with the ending. Hope to see more of these two in the future.

“Kiss me like you mean it, furball.”

This was pretty cute and fun. I haven’t finished the Mismatched Mates series yet and this seems to be a spin-off from that. It only had couples I knew so far in it so I wasn’t super confused. Except there was a plot with a missing vampire. I’m not sure if that will be a future book in this series or if it was already explained in the other series. But that part puzzled me. I liked seeing Nate again from Mismatched Mates . He always makes me laugh. Other than that, I don’t have super strong opinions either way. 🤷🏻‍♀️

This was released last year as part of that ybbb giveaway but I didn’t read it then because I was behind in this series. That being said, this can totally be read as a stand-alone as it didn’t tie into any of the other books but it did have characters from books 1-2 that made it better because I knew who they were. The other book in this series about vampires was a bit of a miss for me if I remember correctly but this one was so good and hot.

Angelo and Jack had a connection from the start but since both of them had mates they couldn’t act on anything. These mates are complete assholes and both Angelo and Jack regret their choices but they need to break those bonds before anything can happen between them. For such a short novella I was surprised by the emotion it brought out in me. Jack’s grand display made me swoon so hard. 🥰

I am so sad to be done with this series. 😭

From the blurb I didn't expect to have so much fun with this, I love the vampire side of this series more than the shifters side. 🤤😍❤❤

I loved the characters, we have a shifter who could be described physically as a bear and a vampire who can be described as really small (I feel you my friend), so when they came together, with their own hurts and wants, I melted!!! 😢😢❤

And they were fun!!! I loved this!! 😍

This was nice enough, I liked both main characters Angelo and Jack. And the story was entertaining. It’s just the main thing I like about werewolf books is the true/fated mates bit. They recognise their mate instantly. Here that’s not the case and it just didn’t really work for me.

Angelo is a vampire enforcer for Fenwick. He's small but powerful guy, 120 lb with boots on. He's at least a hundred years old. He ran away from his cheating and abusive mate 11 years ago, but his mate is a powerful thousand-year-old vampire.

Jack is a werewolf. He's mated too, to another werewolf named brent. Brent betrayed him in a pretty horrible way, he f***** Jack's twin brother Jake, put Jake in a magical coma, stole a priceless magical artifact from Jack and ran away with his co-conspirator Sam who's also his lover. Jack is chasing Brent down to get the artifact back, break the bond he has with him, and figure out what he did to his twin brother Jake so that he can help Jake.

Jack ends up asking Angelo for help because Brent has run to Fenwick's territory and Jack needs Fenwick's permission to do s***. In the course of them working together, there were attracted to each other and start to develop feelings.

This was a decent enough novella. It crammed in a lot of plot and character development. I liked seeing Nate, Arik, and their mates again. I didn't love the plot of everybody cheating on their mates, just a little ugly. Jack and Angelo's feelings kind of developed too fast but it is a novella. Things resolved pretty conveniently and a little too fast at the end as well.

Some notable moments:

"Gods, I hoped he had more skill with magic than with customer service. If Nate was the charismatic face of the business, Arik had to be something special."

"“Yeah, you think? It was an impulse thing. We’ve only been mated for eight months.” None of my business, none of my fucking business… “How long had you known each other before you mated?” Jack looked away, suddenly seeming fascinated by the carpet. “Three days,” he mumbled."

*FYI about steam: I rate steam based on a combination of quality & quantity. I note kink separate from steam because I don't want to underrate steamy reads that don't have much kink.

**Note about spoilers: I like to comment on the plot of a book in reviews, so I almost always mark my reviews as containing spoilers. But I try to avoid spoiling the big dramatic moments! As a reader, I personally like to know what I'm getting into before I read a book so I know more about the content and if it's to my taste/mood, so I try to give that information in my reviews for myself when I'm considering rereading and also for other readers.

This was my first foray into this author's supernatural stories, and overall, I enjoyed it enough to be curious about their other work. The plot was a little OTT (bad dude seduces his mate's twin brother and makes off with dangerous family heirloom) and it was clear that the background characters must factor into other Grayson books just by the way they were introduced--I was supposed to know who they were, and I didn't, and it was fine but mildly annoying. There's also a storyline introduced about a missing vampire that just... hangs out the whole book and is never addressed--I'm guessing that'll come up in a future book? Either way, it was weird. Basically, it wasn't fabulously executed, but it wasn't a mess, and there were some interesting world-building bits + I more or less liked the characters.

Adore this authors work. This series is one of my absolute favourites.

Reread January 2023. Great start of new series, shorter novel - was initially a free read.

This was a fun book, set in and similar to the first two Mismatched Mates for vibes. The dynamic between Angelo and Jack was pretty fun.

However...holy instalust. If this had been fated mates, I would have been a-okay with it. But not fated mates? Just bonkers level instalust. Disappointing. They did have a lot of sexual chemistry at least.

Very much in the spirit of the first two Mismatched Mates, which I liked a lot. It has one of my favorite relationship dynamics, which is small, snarky and prickly + big, calm and stoic, and lots of little tropes/story beats I love. Even though it's quite short, I really felt the chemistry between the characters (coming from someone who's not that much into instalove, usually). I feel like Grayson writes that ''reluctant attraction'' very well, I loved all the sexual and emotional tension, and the single POV serves its purpose really well. The cameos from other characters were fun and part of the plot, not just there for fanservice. It can absolutely work as a standalone to dip your toes in the Mismatched Mates universe without committing to the regular length novels. I'm excited to see more from this universe!

I love how these two unexpectedly fit together, almost as much as I loved how well Angelo showed Jack that he was truly the highest ranking vampire in the bar at the time. It's really kind of a miracle that Angelo isn't besties with both Nate and Arik, since he's also small and dangerous, just like the two of them. I really need more of Eliot Grayson's stories in my life in general...

I kinda loved that this one was a little different, with them both already technically having mates… it just made it feel more natural that they fell for each other so quickly, so I appreciate that it WASNT insta love.

“You don’t need a vampire escort,” I said after a moment of counting to five and trying not to scream. “You need a fucking babysitter.”

His gaze flicked back up at last. “You volunteering?”

I have no one to blame but myself but I guess I’ve got a whole new series of MM paranormal romance to read 😍😍😍 I got this as a freebie some time ago and completely forgot about it until I recently read another book by Eliot Grayson. Even though this novella is book 6.5 in the series I dove in and I freaking loved it!

Big alpha werewolf, twink vampire enforcer, unwanted mate bonds, a stakeout, a kidnapping, magical guard scorpions, accidental 💦 while drinking 🩸, knots - what is not to love?! I wish this had been a full book rather than a novella but there’s loads more in this world so I’ve got plenty to read 🥰

“Anytime, Angelo,” his tone completely easy and calm. “Especially if you come in your pants again. That was fucking hot. I can’t believe how hot that was given that you almost died. I felt like such a creep.”

This was freaking lovely. Romantic and steamy, with just the right amount of angst. I have absolutely loved everything I've read of Eliot Grayson's so far, and this novella is no exception. "Twice Bitten" was so good. It's got two fantastic leads with a ton of chemistry and delicious, inevitable slow-burn connection that was just incredible to witness. I adored both Angelo, with his sassy, hilariously grouchy exterior and his heartbreaking vulnerabilities, and Jack, who was just GAHHH, so nice and protective and hot. Also, we get to meet with a few familiar faces and now I kind of want to re-read all the other "Mismatched Mates" books.

I'm very, very, VERY excited to read the next book in this new, exciting, vampire-centric series.

Baldur's Gate 3 and Astarion made me crave vampire stories again, so here we are.

I really liked the main characters and I absolutely loved the single pov (in a minority here, but not knowing what the other person thinks really does it for me).
Meeting Nate and Ian again was amazing.
Grayson's writing is as great as ever.
The only thing I'll criticize is the insta-love/lust... that was all a bit too much and fast for me.

“I hate being a cliché,” I said as lightly as possible, clearing my throat to get rid of the lingering remnants of laughter. Jack’s brows drew together. He leaned in the tiniest fraction closer. That faint glow behind the icy blue mesmerized me in a way I hadn’t thought werewolves could manage; mesmerizing prey was more of a vampire thing.
“You’re anything but a cliché.”

I think there are just a couple of series I can say with total assurance that I’ve read everything that's been published and The Mismatched Mates is one of them. I’m loving all these little introductions to other beings in this universe. Angelo was awesome from minute one, like all the sassy mates in this series, and of course Jack, the more level headed alpha was another great addition. This combination is my weakness, like Nate and Ian. Speaking of them, their appearances never ceases to make me smile with giant scorpions and all.
I can’t wait for the next book of this series and I'm hoping there are more vampire/werewolf couples in the future. Angelo and Jack already proved it’d be a great and steamy pairing.

I have yet to meet a book of Eliot Grayson’s that I didn’t like-to-love. Twice Bitten continues that trend. This book is funny. It’s sexy. It’s got good characters you can get behind. It’s a contemporary paranormal world where it’s set amongst humans we rarely see. There is some blood and there is the right amount of care factor about the bad guys – not much. I like that. This novella is a good size and easy reading. You don’t have to have read any of the Mismatched Mates series books but if you feel inclined I’d highly, highly recommend them. Having Nate and Arik as part of this book absolutely added extra oomph for me. Grab a copy and enjoy.

I wish I could get notifications whenever Grayson comes out with a new book! I always feel out of the loop and surprised when it happens! A very happy surprise this one was.
I had been craving a vampire fic, and this one just hit the spot. I LOVED the character Angelo and his antics, and I really liked how doting Jack seemed to be, taking Angelo's energy in stride. The perfect pairing.
My only qualm is that I wished it had been longer. Like Grayson's other vampire fic, First Blood, which I LOVED, I wish they had both been more full length (especially First Blood!) as I feel like Angelo's past could have been explored more, and there could have been more problems with Angelo being a vampire and I'd like more wolfy moments from Jack.
A great, opposites-attract pairing.
Really enjoyed this and I am looking forward for what's in store for Blood Bonds!

idk why i continue to read novellas, they never have enough time for proper development and therefore the relationships are all insta love which i’m not a fan of….but the story was fun, esp when angelo had to feed from jack and they accidentally developed a sort of bond from it🤭 but yes very much insta love like what do u mean u wasted ur once in a lifetime precious gift to save or kill anyone using that family heirloom and u used it on a guy u met for like 2 days ???!!!! lmfaoooo insane but cute ig?

I love almost everything in this world/series, and this was another fun installment. The relationship dynamic was reminiscent of the first two books (small, snarky and emotionally damaged/big serious alpha), but both the characters and the plot were distinct from the first two couples so it didn't feel too repetitive for me. I liked that we got to see a vampire/werewolf couple, and the story felt well-paced with a nice balance of action and romance.

Well, now it seems the ride I've been on is really over and it didn't go out with a bang.

I didn't really love this one like I have the others in the series/world.

I did not like that these two already had Mates and that the matings weren't good. It put a bad taste in my mouth as I'm a fan of the Mine, Mine, Mine, Mate, Mate, Mate and this just kind of gave me the idea that isn't always how matings go. And, well, I didn't like it.

I also didn't really get the connection. I mean, it was a shorty so it had to move fast but I could have used a bit more romance. I could have used a bit more knowledge about them too.

But, I liked that we got to go back to the Armitage Pack Lands but wouldn't have minded seeing some of the Lancaster vamps we've met.

I don't know. I'm just really sad there aren't any more books to read and I wish I had liked this one a little bit better.
