I'm still not sure how I feel about this series but some drama finally started happening at the end so I'll give it another volume.

COVID stops the school festival in its tracks, but then it doesn’t, but Shin’s motivation as student council president is definitely more than a little selfish. After all this, it’s off on a camping trip, where Shin steps up and Kizuki keeps hammering away.
This title vexes me at times and I really noticed something this time around that soured the milk a wee bit. And it’s not just that all the boys seem so determined to not throw away their shot that the story can feel like back-to-back-to-back-to-back productions of Hamilton with every understudy trying to equal the lead actor.
First though, the good. I love the way COVID gets integrated into this and, even if Shin might be doing this merely to impress a girl, it shows a willingness of the students and faculty to compromise so the graduating class has one last chance for making memories. It’s not a great idea, pre-vaccine, but as a workaround that’s trying to also portray safety, the principal does her best and it works.
Tougo being a hound with the ladies, even as a teacher, and the boys being incredibly irritated with him is a clever little gag. The way the story portrays Tougo as a bit of a good teacher, but smug player, and keeps him firmly off the field is a fun running bit.
And, yes, I really enjoy these ridiculous future scenes that show absolutely everything except anything you actually want to see. The big reveal is expected to be Kizuki, obviously, but boy is it ever taking its sweet time with that moment. I can’t see them turning Kizuki into a statistic, but stranger things have happened.
It’s the romance proper that kind of stumbles here, largely because the emphasis is on the boys way more than Mizuho. That’s no big shock, really, shojo heroines frequently get the short end of the development stick, but it’s how that plays out that’s awkward.
I mean, if you want to split fine hairs, at least Kizuki is blatant about his desires. Shin basically saves the entire festival just so he can save Mizuho’s dream of displaying her art, which isn’t the worst motivation, but…
Anyway, the real problem is that once these blockheads start going at it, they really reduce Mizuho to being a trophy with a cute smile. It’s constantly reinforced by how they’re acting - the way Mizuho keeps getting forcibly kissed in this series is becoming a bit much. Sure, she’s being really indecisive, but that’s her right - she doesn’t owe these guys squat as far as romance goes.
So, while I do like it, there’s a little ‘Shin is the final boss Kizuki must face before he can claim his prize’ energy here that I don’t love and would be a little more palatable if Mizuho had more of a character or a little more agency than she’s exhibited to this point. And Kizuki is trying hard to be noticed, but he’s precariously close to just hounding the poor girl.
3.5 stars - it’s good, basic shojo. But this time out I did find it a little too basic for its own good, so I think I’ll be rounding it down, mainly because of the way it handled Mizuho. Or let the guys handle her, as it were.

3.5/4 stars. This series feels a lot like a k-drama. There is a lot of focus on the male characters and what they are thinking and feeling, while the heroine is more of a mystery with only present feelings of wanting to stay friends and make memories/art. She is not angsty and apparently not too bothered by three of her four friends suddenly making passes as her while also kissing/holding hands, and she just la la las off to make friend memories. I'm here for the art and the male characters. I'm wondering if she is what is meant by a Mary Sue?

Maybe this is one of those titles that doesn't hold up well to marathoning. Reading this volume and v. 4 back to back, things felt rather thin and uneventful. I suspect it's a combination of the quick reading that attends large panels and few words, and that we're waiting for greater revelations to find their proper time. In the meantime, there's the usual complement of school activities, and hanging out for leisure and study.
I didn't recognize (or remember) Mizuho's best friend until I paged through the volume to find where else she'd appeared. A rather dry sense of humor, likes pop bands. It's not much, but it's more than some shoujo besties get. She seems well placed to get together with one of Mizuho's harem, though there's been no hint of that so far.
I liked the compromise that the students and principal came to for the school festival. Holding it outside, and limiting its length and the people allowed to attend (only those directly associated with the school, i.e. students and teachers), was a decent way to go about things. Since this was published in a magazine for middle schoolers, this manga feels a bit like it's... not sugar-coating the COVID situation, necessarily, but it's also not going out of its way to show us anything but its immediate social effects on the kids.
The camping segment was cute. The group isn't exactly roughing it, since along with cabins with electricity and running water, they have a lodge they can go to for supplies like blankets and logs. :)
Not every romance manga has to be highly dramatic to work, but between the way this one presents its 2020 COVID milieu, and the low level of conflict and tension between the characters, it feels like it's soft-pedaling a smidge too much. I'm hoping things level up in the next couple of volumes in my TBR stack.

I keep wondering why all these male models are obsessed with the most average girl alive—and I think I must believe that a reverse harem works best when the leading girl is the most basic. If she can’t be a stand-in for your standard, most relatable young woman, then the fantasy falls apart.
The whole point of many reverse harem stories is to make your basic girlie feel like she could be special and super desirable to even the most seemingly unattainable, attractive young men—and, in this story, she is. It’s a common fantasy—and not one deserving of any exceeding hate. Most people want to feel special, especially where love and romance are concerned.
But, still.
Knowing what young men were like and how they are now, I can imagine few things worse than having several of them bothering me for my attention. Horrific~

I am continuing to sttuggle with this series as she still seems like a place holder. The character that we know the least about is her and everyone is in love with her and just takes from her. Why is everyone just kissing her? And I guess I understand them all having crushes on her since she has been their friend for so long but at the same time I don't really. EVERY SINGLE ONE WANTS HER?? PLUS MORE??? I just don't see and understand how... le sigh... and maybe if the story gave us more insight that she actually had a crush on them equally, that the non con would feel more dub con and less icky. Also, why hasn't she kind of put her foot down in anyway about this... she really doesn't seem that in to it but she never objects even after the fact...

Things are getting messier. I know a lot of people prefer Shin, so I guess this will probably the best volume so far for them. I'm particularly upset with Airu because I feel like he's the one stirring the pot. I know he's in love with Kizuki so I'm not sure if he has ulterior motives here or he just wants everyone to be honest with themselves. But I haven't forgotten when he told Mizuho that if it's him he won't ruin the friendship, and although it's not a direct advice it made Mizuho avoid Kizuki so...I hope things get better because let's be real, a love triangle is plausible but a love pentagon is too much.

Ça y est, je commence à me lasser et m'agacer des engrenages de ce pseudo drame romantique qu'orchestre Haruka Mitsui autour de ce harem de garçons près de Mizuno et de son indécision totale si décision il doit y avoir...
Je partais plutôt confiante en cette série grâce au comportement fonceur de Kizaki. Je me retrouve au bout de 5 tomes pas plus avancée, pire, engluée avec les autres garçons qui se réveillent à leur tour. Et c'est long, mais long. On sent de plus en plus le délayage dont l'autrice fait preuve en ajoutant des scènes classiques, pour ne pas dire bateau, des shojo lycéen. Cette fois, c'est la fête du lycée annulée puis remise grâce aux héros et ensuite un séjour au camping. A chaque fois, ce ne sont que des prétextes pour autre chose et du coup, elle n'exploite pas ces lieux communs, ce qui en fait encore plus des lieux communs sans intérêt. C'est fort dommage.
Dans ce tome, on tourne en rond autour du personnage de Shin, le gentil futur docteur, qui se sacrifie toujours pour les autres mais souffre de ses sentiments qu'il aimerait exprimer. Sauf que Shin est sans expression ou presque, sans relief ou presque, bref il est fade. Alors dur dur de concurrencer les autres. Il m'a profondément ennuyée même si je lui reconnais des qualités, une sensibilité.
Et ce qui m'agace par dessus tout ici, c'est le forçage de l'autrice pour nous faire comprendre qu'il faut que Mizuho prenne une décision et choisisse, parce que ''ça ne peut pas rester éternellement comme ça''. Eh bien si ! Une amitié ça peut perdurer. On n'est pas obligé de se mettre en couple avec ses amis garçons, etc, etc. Cela m'a profondément agacée car je ne vois pas pourquoi elle devrait en choisir l'un ou l'autre pour se mettre en couple si elle n'en a pas envie et ne les voit pas comme ça. Je sais qu'on est dans une romance mais quand même. Et là, en plus, les garçons ne se comportent pas bien, finissant toujours par lui imposer leurs sentiments sans lui demander son consentement. Bof.
Bref, ça se lit bien comme tout shojo lycéen un tant soi peut maîtrisé dans la narration et les dessins. L'autrice a de la bouteille. Mais c'est fade, redondant, trop long et ça perd peu à peu l'énergie des débuts. Le schéma de passer de l'un à l'autre des garçon ne fonctionne plus trop arrivé au fade Shin. Je ne vois pas pourquoi Mizuno devrait choisir entre amour et amitié s'il n'y a qu'amitié. Je commence à me lasser...
