Have you ever felt weird? Too weird to fit into modern (or any period in time) life?
Rest your weary head because I have created creatures that have taken on an uncouth life of their own.
May I introduce Sir Daniel Fortesque the First and the miserly Quentin-Byron the forty-eighth.
They live in a castle.
Drink where they can.
Eat where they must!
And they cherish the night and somehow bring the townspeople together with their creative musings on living life and seizing what must be seized.
They truly give the residents a tale for the ages.
An experimental novel for the literary thrill-seekers out there. Or anybody who enjoys great dialogue and getting lost in a world that’s reminiscent of our own.
Fortesque and Quentin are unlike any heroes I have read about. Their background, their activities and their thoughts start with making the readers laugh out loud, but that is not all that there is to it. It sparks a deep thought process, wondering what prompted the two of them to the way that they were.
The two men start their work searching for food and as they take the readers with them, their thoughts and actions make sense in a slightly 'normal' way, which is frankly scary after a point.
Entertaining, thought-provoking and downright 'odd'. Very good and unique read.
Very different story. Two old men whose lives do not appear to have mounted to much are the center of this story. At this stage, neither has any interest in rejoining society and living by societal rules, so they are free to act in whatever manner they see fit! Some parts are offensive to one's sensitivities, and I think the author challenges the reader to continue reading by including passages that we would prefer not to read! Having read some of David's other work, l believe the challenge is key to the writing. Carry on sir, there is an audience that wishes to read and enjoy your work! If you are looking for something different, stop here, you will not be disappointed.
The author imagines two down and outs, Fortesque and Quentin, as they go out to meet other people and places, around the ruined castle where they doss. Are they learned men that have fallen on hard times? Maybe their backgrounds are made up. Maybe alcohol and lack of food spurs them on. Whatever keeps these men going, what they come out with often makes sense (worryingly) and makes the reader think. Not my first novel by this author. I enjoy his bonkers style (again worryingly) and will look for more.
This was a well written book, although at first I couldn't connect with the motive of this book. But nevertheless I enjoyed it, and the author's grammar is one of the best I increased my vocab. This was a good book.
The author has a unique way of writing to keep his audience captivated. Unique & fun characters and an exciting storyline with some humour. I did enjoy this book.
A most unusual but effective and imaginative story. I laughed out loud at some parts. The book could benefit from editing, which would have improved my enjoyment.
