Centuries ago, the monsters came. The labyrinth was built to keep the cities safe, and no one leaves the gates.
Except for Jost, the outcast who makes his living hunting and selling the lost treasures of those who died in the maze. The people in his city don't like a maze-walker like him. They think that someone who survives the labyrinth must have some terrible secrets.
Jost has been looking for years to find another city where he might have a better life. But today he finds an empty scabbard and sets his sights on a rare prize: a lost weapon at the end of a bloody trail.
Lately, the air in the maze has felt...different. Ominous. And loner Jost doesn't feel so alone in the labyrinth walls anymore. He feels like there's something watching him, just out of sight. Something he's never seen before.
He has a job to do. But for the first time, he's worried he might not make it back home.
Shane Lee is an epic dark fantasy author living in Buffalo, NY with his wife and their two dogs. He reads a lot, but between words he plays the drums, golf, and a fair amount of video games.
SCABBARD is a great short story introduction to the World of the Stone Maze series. I liked it a lot! Excellent writing and lip biting suspense when Jost is scavenging in the maze.
