Learn the Gospel

Whether building a house or building a life, solid, square and true foundations are vital. If you’re just starting out in the Christian life―or considering it―you want to get those foundations in place from the start. Even if you’ve been a Christian for a while, it’s important to occasionally check your foundations―they might have shifted or been attacked by white ants, or perhaps they weren’t laid quite as straight as you originally thought. In this Learn Together book, we’ll thoroughly inspect our gospel foundations and make our understanding of that gospel sound and biblical. Through reading, studying the Bible, watching some video input and discussing what we’re learning together, we’ll go deep into the gospel of Jesus Christ―understanding each of its parts, how they fit together, and what implications the gospel has for our lives. This is Two Ways to Live grown into a study book for small groups and classes. Each of the six points are fleshed out with Bible study, discussion and video and text input.

About the author

Tony Payne began work as Matthias Media’s first editor in 1988. Since then, Tony has been a busy guy: with his wife, Alison, he has grown a family of five children; he has completed a degree in theology at Moore Theological College; and he has written or co-written numerous ministry resources, and edited many others. Tony’s main responsibilities are to oversee everything we publish (including The Briefing), and to get as much writing done as possible.

We used this book with second- and third-year university students to help them articulate and understand the gospel. Its central message emphasises the urgency and significance of responding to the gospel, challenging readers to grasp the joy and responsibility of following Jesus. This book serves as an excellent precursor to the next one, "Share the Gospel."

Tony Payne and Matthias Media have produced a pair of interesting resources in "Learn the Gospel" and "Share the Gospel". These books are a cross between book and Bible study/small group material. From a pedagogical perspective, the format is strong as it provides both the necessary content but also guided discussions/activities to encourage further consideration. This would be a great resource to use with a new Christian or with a Christian who is wanting to grow in their ability to speak about the gospel.

Good book and training material for helping believers to better understand the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and the implication for living the gospel in our daily lives. We are considering using this book in one of our Equip Classes.
