Folks far and wide know that the Cactus Kid can handle a pistol with the best of them. But for all his skill and coolness under fire, there's jut one small weakness he can't seem to overcome--and it may prove the death of him.
Louis L'Amour brings you the Wild West as you've never heard it before. This classic story, complete with a full cast, stirring music and authentic sound effects, sweeps listeners back to the glory days of the American frontier, where great fortune awaited the bold and the lucky--and sudden death lurked at every turn.
Louis Dearborn L'Amour was an American novelist and short story writer. His books consisted primarily of Western novels, though he called his work "frontier stories". His most widely known Western fiction works include Last of the Breed, Hondo, Shalako, and the Sackett series. L'Amour also wrote historical fiction (The Walking Drum), science fiction (The Haunted Mesa), non-fiction (Frontier), and poetry and short-story collections. Many of his stories were made into films. His books remain popular and most have gone through multiple printings. At the time of his death, almost all of his 105 existing works (89 novels, 14 short-story collections, and two full-length works of nonfiction) were still in print, and he was "one of the world's most popular writers".
The Cactus Kid is totally cool, but has a weakness for getting what his girl wants (because she a bit of a pest until she gets it and may withhold a kiss he greatly desires), so he aims to please his fiancé’s wishes and agrees to go on a hunt to bring her real bouquets of flowers that she can decorate with for her birthday. However, to find those darn flowers, put him in the sights of 3 dangerous men that are killers; the subsequent dramatized presentation is pure family entertainment-.
I enjoyed this story with all the characters that were within. The main character was Cactus Kid.
Cactus Kid is on a mission to find flowers for a girl that he likes. She wants flowers for her party that she is having. But the flowers are hard to find because of the dry weather. He is told there might be some around up in the mountains. He decides to try there. While up in the mountains, two men show up out of nowhere. They take him to their camp. He finds out the group of men are the bandits that the sheriff is looking for. Will Cactus Kid be able to return home with the flowers and still have his life?
This was a fun and sweet story to listen to or read. It had action, adventure, and suspense throughout. There were a few giggles within.
I got an audio copy of this story from my local library or Libby app. This is my honest, unbiased opinion.
I thought this was precious, in spite of the fact his girl is a spoiled brat. Love the Cactus Kid. Don’t like her. He needs a new woman. This one will get him killed. I am aware this is not a true story. Just saying, if it was true, he will have to man up or he will be dead before long. Sweet he loves her so much, but she doesn’t love him. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. CathyR
