Photography composition, light and philosophy.Throwing away your camera when you want to be a photographer may sound weird at first, but all this book is about is for you to manage to escape the first significant barrier in photography, which is photography gear.
We understand now that an essential part of becoming a photographer is to master light and be able to create images by using it appropriately. That is all there is to it. At least the artisan part of it. You need to understand how light is used to represent real-life forms and use it within your photographic frame to create a beautiful, attractive visual stimulus for human emotions.

Throw Away Your Camera and Become a Photographer by George Tatakis is a non-fictional guide to photography, touching on subjects such as composition, light, and philosophy. While it doesn’t fully explore all the technical aspects of photography, the book shows us that photographic gear isn’t always as important as the picture you create. Photography is not only about the image, but how you master light and how you utilize it in creating your images. In the first half of the book, Tatakis discusses what taking a photograph entails, particularly the subject matter and composition. The second half goes on to share the author’s thoughts on photography, especially relating to his underlying philosophy. Here, we see the personal struggle of a photographer as he grows artistically.
Throw Away Your Camera and Become a Photographer by George Tatakis is primarily a semi-technical guide on photography, but is also an in-depth look into a photographer's mindset and the creative process. The book shows us that capturing an image is not just about knowing how to operate a camera or knowing what photographic equipment to use. It reveals that hard work, patience, and perseverance are also essential factors in creating a consistent body of work. Through the latter more personal aspects of image making, we see why some photographs stand out more than others and why photography is also highly regarded as a form of art and not just a means of documentation. Becoming a photographer
I have A LOT of photography books, I have spent A LOT of money on cameras and lens. I feel like George was speaking to me from my experiences. I have learned more about photography from reading this book than all the information I have read. This is a keeper and on my “read again often” as well as recommending this book to others.
