Excellent collection of stories, i loved the intros or outros Sea added to each story I love learning more about authors and their writing! Penis Pummped and Worst Fear, where my favourites in this collection
Reading this book feels strange since the first story talks directly to you and implies that the rest of the stories are told by an unrealiable source, however this unreliable source turns out to be a weird psychotic man with an obsession with rainbow tattoos, which makes the stories not only a bit more uneasy to read but also gives them a vibe of something you'll hear in whispers on a dark alley. It makes them eerie and more powerful this way.
My personal favorite would be the one about the garbage collector, unexpected and very original.
I was a fan of the bonus drabbles too, altough some of them where a bit generic for my liking, but still amusing.
I can't say it enough but Sea Caummisar is Brilliantly Talented! There isn't a single read of her that I haven't enjoyed. I'm not a huge fan of short stories or dabbles. Only having read a few an enjoyed, I thought I'd give Sea's a try. As I read along I was engrossed. I could never get into shorts as I find them too short but wow, here I lay ( reading in bed ) enjoying every word. Each story capturing my attention and taking me away. I loved it every minute of all of the amazing short stories. So even it your not a fan of shorts, give this one a try, you'll love it. Definitely recommend.
Love Sea Caummisar's stories. They're visceral, we'll-worked, like a shiv stabbing repeatedly a meat joint until the meat falls from the bone. She likes to go deeper than most horror writers, peeling back the skin to expose the full-fat, multicoloured bloody horror. Good for her. These stories are more than just feckless gore; I like how she needles the reader with the deep anxiety the character feels, and researches the often quite exotic medical conditions underlying the visceral horror. Not for the squeamish, but there's definitely a pot of gold to found at the end of these painbows.
Painbows & Faded Tales is a short story collection by Sea Caummisar. This book comes in just around 100-ish pages and is quite the easy read.
Before jumping in, make sure you read the triggers / warnings, as this IS a splatterpunk / extreme horror book. If you are NOT a fan of splatterpunk or gore, don't pick this up. haha. This is not for the faint of heart, I assure you that. :x
As with any short story collection, there are great and "meh" stories. Some better than others. I did enjoy pretty much every story here, but some moved along easier / better.
PAINBOWS AND FADED TALES was a cool short story collection with some horror, and other great stories with dark twists. I enjoyed them all. Two of my favorites were the one featuring the trip to the dentist's office and the one set in the shop that sold sex toys because I particularly liked the characterizations. Sharp and voicey. Garbage Man was a fun story as well and as a Hannibal Lector fan, I loved this one too. Great characters. Sea Caummisar has such a creative mind! 5/5 stars.
