A bit of a tease
I found this book “over promised but under delivered” for the most part. The characters and the story started out as interesting and intriguing, only to turn out to be one-dimensional and lackluster. The spicy scenes weren’t so spicy; the suspenseful scenes were short-lived and anticlimactic. I finished it, but I definitely skimmed the last chapter or two.

Fabien Gerard is “the sophisticated gentleman with impeccable manners and a voice that would melt panties.” And, he’s that and so much more. He’s obsessive, determined, gorgeous, murderous…what’s not to like in a fictional hero? Then there’s Nicolette. Jaded, yet altruistic, and has her sister’s best interests at heart. They’re perfect for each other. I do enjoy dark(er) romances and I love that Ms. Henry has made the heroes in this series French. It’s a nice shift in what is more of a typical expectation as to where the heroes are from (Italy, Russia, Ireland, Mexico/South/Central America). And the development of their relationship was fab. He’s a bit of a sneaky B—okay, he’s downright conniving in how he orchestrates things. Then there’s the swoony things they do together (sanitized for the bots) that are just delicious in all the right ways. Own Me is book 1 in Ms. Henry’s new Masters of Corsica series and I can’t wait to see what comes next.

Sexy, Dominating & Intoxicating
Wow…this is one heck of a series opener. This book has a little bit everything and hits all the best dark Mafia triggers. You will fall hard for our alpha Fabien and all his demanding needs and wants. He is the perfect dominating character that will stick with you long after you finished. He is the perfect character to kick off the Masters of Corsica series…he is the master of all things and it’s quite a ride watching him dominate the world around him!
Nicolette’s job is to keep her sister safe and earn enough money to ensure a future for them both. She’s not thrilled about her job but she does it well, the pay is decent, and she’s made friends there that she can rely on. What she never anticipated was meeting Fabien and having such an emotional and physical reaction to him. Plus he’s her boss so that makes it a bit awkward at first.
She’s offered a job she can’t refuse but what she doesn’t realize is that Fabien has no intention of letting her go ever. She is his and he will do anything and everything for her and those she loves. Buckle it for a wild ride but it’s so worth every twist & turn. Happy Reading!!!

I was in the mood for a bit of spicy, but honestly, the spicy scenes in this were underwhelming. This book focuses more on a plot which is quite fleshed out, and I appreciate that. I enjoy a good plot. I also appreciated the dominant undertones.
My issue (aside from the lack of spicy) is that the book could have been longer to give more to the plot. Since it was a shorter book the whole thing felt rather rushed.

Story a little weak
The story didn’t hold me at all. The 🌶️🌶️🌶️ were pretty good, but having said that, you still need a strong storyline to go around those scenes. Narrators were really good though, so that kept me listening.

Jane Henry always draws you in with her characters. Many of her books are Mafia driven and this is no exception, but in a deliciously different way.
Fabian Gerard owner of a Gentleman's Club in Corsica has become obsessed with one of his "Girls".
Nicolette is an American, working in the high end brothel and when she is attacked by a client, Fabian rescues her and his fascination takes him over.
He needs a date for a family wedding, she is trying to earn enough money to look after her sister who is still in America. When Fabian offers her two million dollars to give him her company for the wedding, she realises this is once in a lifetime chance to set both her and her sister up for life. Little does Nicolette realise she has sold her soul to this dark and sexy man.
When Fabians brother is taken and the ransom made known he talks Nicolette into helping him get him back and the adventure begins. Nicolette quickly realises exactly what Fabian's world is and he discovers this girl is no shrinking violet and has a backbone of steel. The chemistry between these two characters is brilliant and you will find yourself willing them to find their HEA. It is so great to have a heroine that stands tall and fights for the man who is quickly becoming more than just a boss.
This is an absolutely stunning start to a new series, this is a standalone but the next book in the series will bring more of both characters families into the mix. This is a must read and another triumph for Jane.

The description said dark mafia romance. Not particularly... It sort of morphed into a 'caper' story. The writing was fine, just not what I was expecting. There are lots of secondary characters.

When you read a Jane Henry novel, you know there will be dark, hot, sexy romance between a surly, alpha male and a tenacious, willful woman. However, Ms. Henry shakes things up for her readers in her new series Masters of Corsica. The setting of Own Me: Masters of Corsica Book 1 transports us to France, as the main characters frequently jet between Paris and the island of Corsica for business and pleasure in their world of status and excess.
Fabien Gerard, a surly alpha male, is being pressured by his family to bring a date to his cousin’s wedding over the weekend. Mr. Gerard is one who prefers to give the orders rather than receive them. However, unbeknownst to his mother and brothers, Mr. Gerard already has a lovely female employee of his Corsican establishment in his sights. Now all he has to do is formulate a plan to entice Nicolette to attend the wedding with him in Paris at his family’s ancestral home for the coming weekend. One would think this would be an easy task for the handsome and wealthy Mr. Fabien Gerard, but it is not. You see, Fabien Gerard is a high-ranking member of the French Mafia, and Nicolette, the tenacious and willful American gal, is employed at Mr. Gerard’s high-end brothel in Corsica as a high-class call girl.

Just a bit too silly for me
i totally understand that the erotic/romance stories that I read are pure fiction and utter escapism, however, when they become so unbelievable and illogical that your response is "Oh really", you know it is time to give up and find another book.

It’s ok as far as books go but it didn’t feel like a page turner for me. As someone else noted, it wasn’t really that spicy and it probably wasn’t quite what I was expecting from the blurb. It wasn’t a bad book, but probably not quite intriguing enough for me to read the rest of the series. I’ve enjoyed other books by this author but this one wasn’t quite for me.

TikTok has once again led me astray from my never-ending TBR pile, and I have to say that I am not mad about it. Nicolette is working in a high-end brothel to save up money for herself and her sister, Savannah, after the death of their parents, when one night leaves Nicolette attacked and the object of affection to Fabien, the owner. With an history of obsession and definite ties to the mafia, Nicolette finds herself thrust into Fabien's life and conflicts as he cannot let her out of his sight.
With a dual POV, we get to see Nicolette and Fabien's inner thoughts and struggles, especially with Fabien and how he views Nicolette and tries to help his family. I really liked the fact that this was not an insta-love for the girl first, but rather with Fabien basically being obsessed with her before she even knew that he existed. Yes, it is unconventional, but it is a dark romance, so this is just another walk in the park as far as I am concerned. I do think this book was on a lighter side of dark romance -- nothing too out of the box happens, but definitely skirts on the edge of heading towards being dark.
The girls in the high-end brothel very much resemble a tight-knit friend group that is seen in the Phoenix series by Stacey Kennedy. We get brief scenes with characters like Gwen and Cosette, but they add a support system for Nicolette since her sister is away at school and she has no one else in Corsica while she works. As far as Fabien's family goes, I liked his brothers, but his other family members kept pushing my buttons and made me irrated -- definitely the author's intention, but interesting to see the comparison of Nicolette and Fabien's outside relationships.
Together they are going to attempt one of the greatest heists ever seen in order to keep Fabien's family in tact, and in order to do so, Nicolette has to do everything Fabien says without a second thought. He wants her more than anything he has ever laid eyes on, and if making her obey him will keep her safe and pull off the heist, it will be killing two birds with one stone. The sex scenes were well done but a tad short, and I will admit that I was giggling and kicking my feet any time Nicolette and Fabien were together.
I do wish that the plot moved a little faster, but I still had a fun time getting to know the characters and I enjoyed all of the background information that the author gave us. Same goes for when Nicolette and Fabien actually entered into their more dominant/submissive relationship -- I kept waiting for it to begin as I was going through the story, and it really shows up for the last third of the book. It was still entertaining and great to read, but I would have loved to see more of it closer to the beginning of the book.
If you are looking for a gateway mafia romance that has a splash of dark themes, Own Me is a great spot to start. This is a very quick read and keeps the reader interested to see where Nicolette and Fabien end up after their weekend is through -- will they part ways, or will Fabien finally have Nicolette all to himself?

Although Fabien could possibly have any woman that he wanted, he was obsessed with Nicolette, one of the prostitutes at La Maison. Fabien knew everything that there was to know about American Nicolette, he had researched her background, he even had copies of her bank account.
When his mother ordered Fabien and his brothers to bring partners to their sister's wedding, Nicolette was Fabien's choice but she didn't even know who he was, could he persuade her to do it ?.............perhaps for two million dollars, he would arrange an accidental meeting.
Nicolette was no shrinking Violet, she was strong willed and focused, she was working to put her sister through collage, she couldn't believe that someone like Fabien was interested in her, what harm could come to her at a weekend at Fabien's Paris family home ? I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "VILLAIN'S OBSESSION" (Master of Corsica) new series it start off with a bang your hooked from start to finish, kidnapping, suspense, intrigue, danger, steamy scenes, angst, attempted rape, twists that have you turning the pages.
Fabien is head of Gerard Mafia Family in Corsica he's gorgeous, dominant, obsessive, he runs a Gentleman's Club in Corsica where Nicollete the woman he's obsessed, she works at the Brothel there he wants her as his submissive, his plaything, then eventually his wife.
Fabien's mom wants her boys Thayer & Lyam to bring dates to Antoine's wedding he tells her they will when he gets a call from an I know saying he has to something from the Lyon Family arriving in Corsica if he wants his brother Lyam back.
Nicollete is working with a client she's seen a few times when he decides he wants more she say no he attacks her trying to rape her he locked the door she screams for help that's when Fabien burst in to deal with the client Gwen tells her hes Monsieur Gerard he owns the Club her interest is peaked.
I definitely recommend to get this extremeky well written story Fabien will pull Nicolette into his world she'll help him get Lyam back, she's his ticket into the Underground, she doesn't know what he has in store for her will they get their HEA in the end you have to get this awesome read you so won't be disappointed.

First I loved the setting of the story. It takes place between Paris and the island of Corsica.
I googled the island so I’d have a better feel of the atmosphere of the story.
Oh my goodness it’s absolutely breathtaking!
So their beautiful surroundings on the island and the romantic vibe of Paris lets two people who aren’t meant to be together pretend to be in a bubble of their own away from the real world.
Fabien Gerard the gorgeous Frenchman is not just an extremely successful businessman

Another great book by Jane Henry, and a great start to a new series. Fabien Gerard is a man that owns many businesses. His family is well known by name for their control and rule as a Mafia family. Fabien is the eldest Gerard and the one in charge. He has two brothers that he works with. When one brother is in trouble the other two will do what is needed to get him back and protect the family.
Nicolette is in need of money and decides to work as a high-class call girl in Corsica, not knowing who she’s working for. She needs enough for her and her sister to live and make a life on. When she finds herself in danger with one of her customers the man that comes to the rescue will become more to her than she expects. When Fabien asks her to accompany him to his cousins wedding as his plus one, she begins to wonder if his interest is real or if he’s obsessed with her.

I love the grumpy men of the Gerard family and can’t wait for more of them. He needs her help to carry out a mission to save his brother who has been kidnapped. He also needs a date for a cousin's wedding. He offers to pay Nicolette two million dollars to be his for the weekend. He doesn't plan on ever letting her go.
The other girls warn Nicolette that Fabien becomes obsessed with things and she needs to be careful. But the money he is offering will allow her to quit her job and go back to America to her sister - she can't say no. As he shows her what it means to have a man who is considerate and who appreciates her brains as well as her body, Nicolette starts to think she may be falling in love with Fabien. But does she really mean anything to him and does she really want to be involved with a crime family?

I absolutely love it when Jane starts a new series because you never know quiet what your going to get until you read it. We all know of course that Jane is well known for writing great Mafia stories and this one is another but with a little twist.
And i have to say at first when i started reading it, i honestly wasnt sure but as the story went on, it really is a must read. The characters themselves are quite the actors, and i really thought it was a wonderful twist on the whole story.
Nicolette just needed to save up money for her and her sister that is where she was, when Fabien saved her. She was just trying to get more money for her and her sister, so when Fabian came up with an offer for her to be with him for the weekend she accepted. What follows for them both involves savings Fabiens brother and a bit of acting, in which i had to do a smile to myself. So the question is can they both admit to each other that they are both in love before it all ends?
These two together are smart, talented, and definitely this is a must read book. All in all well worth a good five stars, and im looking forward to the next story!

'Own Me' is the first book in Jane Henry's new series "Masters of Corsica". Trust me when I tell you not to start this book in the evening if you have to get up early the following day. I couldn't put it down and am now writing this review in the wee hours of the morning … it's that good. She takes us to Paris where we meet an American woman named Nicolette who works at a reputable brothel. She alludes to the reason she's taken on the profession and is working towards a goal. Unfortunately, a client takes things a bit too far and Nicolette is forced to push the panic button installed in her room for such occasions. Luckily for her, the owner of the establishment had just arrived and was there to intercede and handle the problem. The owner? None other than Fabien Gerard, head of the Corsica mafia. This storyline had it all. The dominant, grouchy alpha who always takes what he wants, the strong, independent heroine who has no problem fighting for what she wants, multiple attempts on their lives, a heist, and even role-playing. Add all that to the sizzling chemistry these two share and it was just an absolutely wonderful read.

He uses his power to find out everything he can to convince her to be his for the weekend. He doesn't care that he's not giving her the whole truth, he's getting what he wants, a date for his cousin's wedding, a way to save his brother from a kidnapping and her, for the weekend. She's doing this strictly for the money, to help set up her and her sister for the future. She wasn't expecting a man like Fabien. They fall hard and fast for each other, both their chemistry and the situations they get into. Both keep trying to tell one another it's just a job/just the weekend, but when they finally open up to truth with each other, can they finally truly be together.

If you love stories that hold you captive from beginning to end, then this is the story for you! Can’t even express how much I loved it! Fabien and Nicolette will make your heart swoon and you will definitely fall in love with them. He’s from a French Mafia family and runs a brothel which is where he meets Nicolette. She has her reasons for being there of which no one knows about. He is fascinated and enamored by her and will do anything to make her his. But how? Can he show her there is another side to life?
I loved all the characters and can see this being a series of which I can’t wait to read. There’s also mystery and intrigue mixed into all this, which gives this story a special element. And let’s not forget to mention the sizzling chemistry between Fabien & Nicolette! This is a definite must read!

What an amazing story! Jane Henry brings us another Mafia Family to meet and love. This is the story of the Leader of this French Mob boss Fabian Gerard. He owns a high end Brothel in Corsica. Que our lovely leading Lady Nicolette. She is from the states living in France in order to make enough money to keep her younger sister, Savannah in College in Boston.
The action in this is a rush, exciting and funny also. Of course the steaminess is off the charts.
I loved meeting Mama’n Gerard along with the brothers Thayer and Lyam. This is a wonderful start to a new series. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series. Jane Henry is such an incredible Author. I swear, you feel like you get to know her characters and root for them to have an HEA.

Fabien is attracted to Nicolette for several reasons. First, she is lovely and enticing. He feels a bit obsessed by her allure. He realizes she is working toward a goal, so enough money will definitely entice her into helping him. In addition, he desires to have a beautiful woman on his arm for a family wedding as well as a slave to help him ransom his brother by stealing a Napoleonic talisman. Will Nicolette be willing to participated in each scenario? Will they succeed with their plans? How will they feel about each other as they get to spend more time together? Will their feelings continue to grow even after they succeed in their mission?

As with each and every other read from this author, I couldn’t turn these pages fast enough. It is easy to connect with these characters and jump into their world.

Fabien Gerard is a dangerous mafia boss, an arrogant man, a man obsessed with Nicolette. Nicolette is working to earn money for her and her sister so they can have a better life. Fabien offers her job worth two million for the weekend, but little does she know he has ulterior motives. It soon becomes apparent Fabien will do anything to keep Nicolette after the weekend is over, my favorite line is “I fear his obsession. I fear everything he’d say and do. I fear hoe he is. But now I’m wondering if I’m not the obsessed with him.” This line says it all. I love this story of intrigue, danger and romance as they rush to find and save his brother from his kidnappers. A great story and the beginning of a new series. I’ve voluntarily read and reviewed this excellent story.

This story is fabulous! It's fast, exciting, suspenseful, and extra steamy. I'm very familiar with Mafia romances that have an anti-hero that I love to hate and an innocent female who may know about the danger around them but has been sheltered for their whole life. That's not what this one is, and I loved it for its uniqueness. Nicolette isn't an innocent, far from it, and even though she may not know exactly who Fabien is, she goes into the situation with both eyes wide open. I loved her strength and her independent streak. I love the different sides of Fabien. I loved the well written plot and the intensity level, and I loved the passion between Fabien and Nicolette. I loved everything about it, and I'm excited for the next one.
