I just can't make up my mind if I like Amber or not. Over and over in the 3 books I've read so far I really like the puzzles, but otherwise she's really annoying. Why go through the FBI training and then wonder if it's the right career choice? There's a plot brewing in the future with the escaped inmate, so I might plod on.
The books could do with some editing so as not to repeat scenes and also a little more of a back story for the characters.

Amber has finished her training and now can be hired by the FBI but she has doubts about leaving her life and her puzzles behind and immersing herself in a totally different reality. Joseph, her now boyfriend, is not helping her to make a decision. She is asked to join Simon on the hunt for a serial killer who leaves Rorschach cards at the crime scenes. Their search for the killer will have many dead-end leads until they find the culprit. Good plot, the ending leaves the door open for the next installment in the series.

Why I picked this book: The name of the author caught my attention. I am a voracious reader, but some how I have never read any of this author’s work although my research showed he has written quite a number of books. Also, the name of the book is unusual.

What kept me turning the pages: Although I found the story a trifle slow, the continuous conflict between the two FBI agents – their approaches to the problem – intrigued me. I was impressed with the trainee’s tenacity. She stubbornly held on to her point of view in spite of the fact that her superior instructed her to cease and desist. 1
The exchange between the two FBI employees reflects the norm of society where elders tend to hold on to tried and proven ways while the youth tend to want to venture into new avenues.
The story in a nutshell: Two employees of the FBI One a male veteran special agent with lots of experience under his belt and a young female puzzle expert turn FBI consultant who has not yet accepted the job as an agent although she has completed her training and has been offered a prestigious position.
They were given the task of tracking down a serial killer who left mysterious drawings for the police hinting at his next victim and who was very skilled in evading the police.
One could feel the tension as the killer evaded even the skilled FBI agent and consultant. As he commits murder again and again.
The versatility of the young consultant could not be overlooked as she refused to embrace failure and would suggest a new approach as each of their attempt at apprehension fail.
Sympathy is also aroused for some persons on whom suspicion fall. People who were struggling to fit into society and whose lives were torn apart.
Even the killer when he was finally arrested elicit some level of sympathy as the story leaves you with the impression that the victims were not as innocent and blameless as they were thought to be.
An element of the story that was entreating is the attempt to use of puzzles by the consultant who is a puzzle maker and solver to find the killer. As the story ends there are solutions to the murder mister as the killer is apprehended and also the question of whether the consultant would accept the job as a FBI agent. There is also what seem to be the beginning of a sequel as an escape murder focuses his attention on the young puzzler who has made the decision to become an agent.

“Sentimento assente” di Blake Pierce pag. 218

I read this quick, so I didn't have time to put it as currently reading and such.

Amber's such a fun character to me. Plus, the puzzler aspect of this series is just a unique touch.

Her relationship with Joseph feels.... awkward to me? I don't know, I just feel like there's not much to it, I honestly can't tell if Joseph genuinely likes her and wants to be with her or if there's another reason for it, maybe I'm being too suspicious. Plus, I feel like maybe they aren't the endgame relationship, I feel like something is slowlyyyyyy brewing with Simon maybe?

Also, the introduction of Colm has me really intrigued! really can't wait to see where his stuff leads.

Either way, Blake's books are a comfort to me to read, I think because they're one of the first authors I read with these FBI type stories. so, now I just love sitting down and chowing through their books. Kinda like cozying up and watching one of those Christmas-y hallmark movies.

already halfway through the next book!

Thus far my least favorite of the series. Because it was some what more focused on her relationships I’ve come to feel that her relationship with Joseph is just our awkward. I get this is a mystery crime book but that doesn’t mean that relationship should be so underdeveloped.

I would say even her relationship with Simon while more developed then Joseph is still lacking. The issues that came in this book just felt like it came out of no where or rather they were focusing on things that weren’t perceived to be an issue earlier in the series

Like there was constant discussion of her recklessness and yet it wasn’t addressed. If the issues described in this book was brought up earlier then it would have made the book make sense. maybe not In the first book but in the second it would have been fine

Absent Feeling

Amber has successfully graduated from FBI training. She is though ambiguous whether she should continue with being a full fledged FBI agent or stay with the life she knows and is very comfortable with.

Blake Pierce has another edge of your seat book with this third installation of the Amber Young series.

Another series from Blake Pierce.

Just finished the third book and purchased the fourth. Amber Young is quite different from Blake’s other heroines. She uses her skills at solving puzzles in her roll as a FBI agent. Each book has been a bit different. Of the three I have read this one is probably my least favorite. It wasn’t bad, just not as exciting to me.

Really liking the puzzle aspect of this series even if this one wasn't very puzzle-y. Can't wait for the next book in this series.

The plot in this one was not as interesting as the first two. The main characters are quite likeable. I may or may not read book 4, but for now I will move on to something else.
