The Stone Circle Queen

Rate this book
“You need something more. And for that, I need something from you.”

When you’re queen, what you want and what you get are two different things.

On the run from the High King, Sorcha is offered the Earth Fae throne and the chance to find justice for both her peoples. She’s determined to save her kingdom and bring peace to a country torn apart by war and prejudice. She knows her battle has only begun for no Fae wants a human-born queen on the throne.

When she loses her heart’s desire, only a bargain with a Goddess will help her find him again. As with all things magical, however, there’s always a price.

Can Sorcha pay it and still save her kingdom? Or must she sacrifice her kingdom, in order to save her happily ever after?

If you love fae stories and plot twists that keep you guessing, you will not want to miss this high-fae Arthurian and Sleeping Beauty reimagining with a strong female main character, fated mates, and forbidden love.

”Yes,my Queen?” His lilt is low and sultry. “What do you need?”
Sorcha is free, awoken from her sleep, and on the run from the High King. Sorcha is offered the Earth Fae throne, a chance to right the wrongs for both her people but can a human-born queen rule over Fae? Will they let her? Not only is she determined to save her kingdom but she finds herself without a piece of her heart as well. She makes a bargain with the Goddess to ensure she finds him again. But magic comes at a price, can Sorcha pay it? Will she end up sacrificing her happy ending or her kingdom? Can she save both or is she doomed to fail?
What a perfect finish this book was! I loved The Borderlands Princess but The Stone Queen might be my favorite. We jump right back into where we left off in The Borderlands Princess and straight into the action. I knew this one was going to be full of self-discovery, and Sorcha was going to face a lot of challenges ahead. I devoured this book, it had me feeling all kinds of things throughout. I definitely cried along with Sorcha at times. I love the journey Sorcha goes through in this book compared to the first. You can really see how she's growing but also how her good heart still shines through despite everything she is put through. I really adore how Sorcha is a 31-year-old FMC, which really helped shape her character and choices in my mind. I also loved that we got to have a little more inside Achill’s mind in this one. I know he's the villain, and he’s awful still, but I found myself eagerly awaiting his chapters. The spice in this book is higher than in the first, very steamy, and still stocked full of tender moments. Conall is something else, where can I get me one of him? I love that we got more of him, and I loved how he treated Sorcha, and how he always gave her a choice. I will try not to go too in-depth to avoid spoilers, but I enjoyed how Sorcha and his relationship developed and grew beyond the circumstances. I won't go into too much more about the other characters but I will say yall are not ready for Murdock. New book boyfriend alert! I highly recommend you check out this series if you enjoy fated mates, strong FMC, forbidden love, and a great story.
Thank you Ophelia for a eARC!

4.5/5

Ophelia Wells Langley's conclusion to the Stone Circle duology is an emotionally dark, but powerful, ride.

I truly enjoyed the darker tone of the second book. It builds off the events of The Borderland Princess, but the themes of sacrifice and loss made this a soulful, but infinitely darker book. Even more, I liked that the characters while battling events and fate still had the power to choose. It made the story much more emotional because of what each of the characters was willing to sacrifice for each other.

I won't lie, I was a bit concerned when I saw who received a POV in this book. I did think "Where are you going with this, Ophelia?!" But having both Sorcha's and Achill's POVs provided this nice dichotomy on the power of choice and what happens to people when they choose certain paths. Our choices have the power to strengthen us or unravel us if we let them. It was emotional to see Sorcha struggle with the events that unfold, but also watch her battle through them. At the same time, you get into the mind of a villain in a new way. You understand his backstory -- and how to see how he became the person he is in books 1 and 2. It added to the depth and richness of the overall story in a way I was not expecting but really enjoyed.

Overall, a stunning conclusion to an emotional series.

Unsure how I feel about this book.
Some of the confusion I had from the first book was cleared up. However, the ending was…. incomplete?
The Murdock thing was never properly wrapped up. We only get just a glimpse of Thorne in the end? After they were missing for so long, we never find out what exactly happened to them?

I really hope there is a 3rd book coming eventually and this isn’t just a duet because man I am very much left hanging.

Also, can someone please tell me what the hell “Och” means and how it’s pronounced? Murdock begins almost every sentence with it and I cannot for the life of me figure out what it is.

No. Just no.

It just sucked, so much of it was stupid and didn't make sense. The author somehow managed to make me not like a single character. This was a 6/10 idea with a -70/10 execution.

This was a perfect ending and wrap up to The Stone Circle duology. It's full of twists and turns that have you gasping on the emotional ride it takes you on. Overall I can say that it was absolutely phenomenal and my favorite book in the set. All conflicts were closed smoothly and the novel itself had a steady pace for everything to come to an end. The romance part of the story had me dancing around and going back and forth on who I liked because of certain parts.

Sorcha really found herself in the installment. I really appreciated that Sorcha was 31 and not a teenager/younger FMC. I love how the cover themselves on this set really display her character but even more so for TSCQ. All the characters in this duology are amazing. It was hard to dislike them other than certain ones obviously. Murdock and Thorne were my favorites outside of Sorcha and Conall but I can't lie I was rooting for Murdock. We all know that Achill is still evil.

Absolutely worth every star.

This book is just brilliantly such a great ending to the duology.

The relationship between Sorcha and Conall goes into so much more depth in this book, and I just love it, the fact that regardless of being mates the emphasis on Choice is soooo much better than just the fated mates trope.

Sorchas body image issues are so brilliantly handled and hit home for me more than once, it's brought up often enough that it really does mirror my own experiances but not so much it takes away from the story itself, and it was so wonderful to have Conall reassure and treasure her at any moment when she has doubt.

There is certainly something else that can be said about her writing style that had me hating King Achill so much that I was messaging a friend constantly and had given him a nickname I can't share here.

This book has cemented my love for Ophelias work, and not only am I sure I want to read more of her work, I have already preordered a few future releases so I can read them as soon as they are out.

This is my voluntary review after receiving a free ARC copy.

Wow wow wow wow...
This book was phenomenal, I loved book one so much so yes I applied for an arc of book two. This book was amazing, Sorcha waking and being on the run had me so stressed. Everything about the plot was so well detailed that I couldn't put it down. Like not once was I confused about what was going on. The character development between books one and two for Sorcha was so well done. I could tell how badly she wanted to write the wrongs of the humans but like imagine ruling over fae when you are in fact human... no thx haha.
The romance was to die for, like I ate that up and you know my mood swings between not wanting spice and then wanting all the spice. I can't recommened this book enough but I will try and it'll end with the majority of people reading this excellent piece of work. Now to just figure out how to enter this world so I can be on my merry way...

This is one of my top reads of this year.
This book is the final book in the duet. We have characters from the first book making a reappearance and new characters popping up. We follow Sorcha and her friends as the set a blazing trail of action and adventure. There is heartbreak, there is love, lost family and found friendships. And an epic finish to top it all off.

Ophelia has done it again. This book was just as amazing as the first. This is the conclusion to The Borderlands Princess and it starts off right where book 1 ended. Following Sorcha’s journey was quite eventful.

🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ was on point! The POVs with 2 different characters was spot on! If you need a great new read definitely pick up The Borderland Princess and The Stone Circle Queen! You will not regret it!

obsessed

I read book one and two of this series right after the other after seeing a small clip video on TikTok and I got obsessed. I know I just had to get my hands on it and let myself fall into the rabbit whole that is the stone circle series. If you enjoy Fantasy and romance and some heartbreak this is definitely a read for you

Ophelia has done it once again!

Let me start by saying that I did receive this book as an eARC in exchange for an honest review!

Also, if you haven’t read the first installment of this duology, I highly recommend running to go read The Borderlands Princess because this book picks up right where we left off!

I didn’t realize how much I missed these characters until I started to read this book. The inclusion and diversity of the characters in this book is outstanding with the author making sure everyone is represented in all aspects of life.

Sorcha, our FMC, is a 30 something year old curvy female character who bargains with the Goddess of the Borderlands in order to save her people and her mate for a false King who has over stayed his welcome. Along the way Sorcha faces many trials which come with consequences and risk versus reward. She must decide which risks she’s willing to take in order for the greater good.

This is a spoiler free review but let me just say… Connall. That man… That fae. Yes. Also, Murdock? He came out of left field, but I want mad about it.

The magical elements and world building in this book are so easy to follow and we got to see more of both of them in this book. I love all the different species of mythical creatures that we see in this book, but I will always love the brownies the most!

The spice is there people. The. Spice. Is. There.

As someone who struggles with body dysmorphia, it’s refreshing to see a character also struggle with her body image! The author makes it known that no matter our size, shape, or color, we are all beautiful and there is going to be someone out there that loves us as we are, but that we should also love ourselves.

So, if you are looking for your next great fantasy read, check out The Borderlands Princess and the Stone Circle Queen!

“You like what you see?”

I will be honest I signed up as an ARC reader but I had also pre-ordered the Kindle copy long before I had signed up for the arc option for this book. I just adore OWL’s writing and couldn’t wait for more Sorcha, Conall, Opal, and Thorne.

Ugh, OWL did it to me again. My emotions were EVERYWHERE. I was on edge the entire time. I thought she was going to do my man Conall dirty so many different times I could barely stand to keep reading (but I’m so glad I did because the way she writes all of her characters makes me so torn between sympathy and rage and every choice comes from the core of each character to whatever end). I was sobbing at different points. So many characters imprinted on me forever.

I love the self realizations Sorcha comes to and the selfless way she pledges herself to a resolution and the way every choice she makes comes from wanting better for the human, fae, and creatures alike.

I wish I had more Thorne time but that is because they are my favorite character so I am extremely biased. They deserve everything.

I need an epilogue! I need more where are they now resolution. I need to see where everyone is and how they are faring after every crazy thing that happened. And I want to see the longer consequences of the choices Sorcha makes at the end.

Sornall for life.

Loved this book. Can’t wait to reread the series as a whole back to back. But I still need more Thorne!!! <3

⭐️This the second and final installment of the Stone Circle series, and I absolutely loved the way everything wrapped up. (If you haven’t read this series, start with the prequel novella, Of smoke and Shadows, then move onto The Borderland Princess.)
🧚‍♀️This book picks up exactly where the previous installment left off. So much is explained, and so many secrets are unraveled throughout the course of the story. We follow Sorcha on her journey of self discovery, as she endeavors to save her people, and the man she loves. She picks up some skills along the way, and dabbles in the ways of badassery… and it’s a good look on her.
🐺The MMC is even more delicious in this book. And there’s an uptick in the banter and angst between him and the FMC, which I definitely appreciated.
🧜‍♂️ Y’all… there’s a merman shifter in this one. And he’s all spangly and sexy… I’m just gonna leave that one right there.
😈 We get the POV our complicated, bad boy Smoke Daddy villain… and it’s written in a way that I can’t help but have a soft spot for him, regardless of all of his douche-tastic behavior.
🌶️ For spice, I’m giving this a solid 2.5🌶️ rating. There were several tasty, well written scenes, that had me all hot and bothered…. Goddess above. 🥵
⭐️This author is fast becoming one of my favorites… I wait with bated breath for her next series!!

I absolutely loved this book. It was so much better than the first. It is kind of fast paced and a lot of information coming at you quick. But that is what kept me going. It was one thing after the other. I didn’t want to put the book down. I absolutely loved it. I love the supporting characters (especially Thorne, I wish I could have seen more of them). I love that Sorcha and Conall have their hea even though he’s super stubborn. I love that Murdock is so close to Sorcha and Conall and that they can live with each other and their feelings. The only thing is, I want an extra chapter that talks about Sorcha’s fate and how she grows old with Conall after her final decision with the goddess.

I also love the details about Sorcha not being the skinny, fit princess/queen, how she has wrinkles and thick thighs. It’s sooo relatable as a reader. I love the time she takes to express how Conall loves her body regardless how she feels about it. Ophelia does an AMAZING job describing their relationship and makes it so realistic how couples argue and learn to trust each other.

Thank you, Ophelia, for giving us this gift of a duology.
The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because of the typos I read/found throughout the story.

Ophelia does it again. The Stone Circle Queen is a wonderful conclusion in Sorcha's story, but I will say this, I was at the edge of my seat until the very end. I needed a breather before I could write this (in a good way) lol.

Book 2 starts off continuing the plot twist from book 1. We follow along with Sorcha, Conall, and Achill. I wasn't sure how I would feel about seeing in Achill's POV, but it was completely worth it to understand how each side of the story is brewing and his thought process as a character. This book has even more twists, dark plots, nail-biting action scenes, and chef's kiss steam and spicy moments than book 1.

I loved being able to see and feel Sorcha's turmoil and strength when having to me life altering decisions in love and survival for both her and her people. We see both her and Conall grow throughout the book but also find who they truly are meant to be.

This book is a page-turner keeping you up late needing to know what happens next. If you are looking for a book with wonderful world building, action-packed scenes, and heartwarming love and friendships, then The Borderlands Princess is where to start.

Thank you Ophelia for the ARC!! The Stone Circle Queen was such a great end to the duology! I was on my toes the entire time and loved seeing Sorcha’s growth and relationships build with the characters. I also loved how the start of the book picked up right where we left off and also went back over the highlights from book 1. Since it had been a while since I read The Borderlands Princess I appreciated the refresher and shows the strength of Ophelia’s writing. I also loved getting more background on Murdock and seeing Conall’s brothers and other little characters who played such a role in the story. And seeing Sorcha come into her magic *chefs kiss*. I absolutely adore that Sorcha isn’t like a regular fantasy FMC - she’s 31, not stereotypically skinny/athletic, insecure about her curves and signs of aging, and slowly coming to admire them. She is one character that I can heavily relate to and love that the story and her are so strong. I have to admit I’m going to miss the characters but I truly enjoyed this world and the story!

This is book 2 in this duology. Sorcha is such a great FMC! Super kind and understanding and forgiving. I know Fern isn’t as big of a character as some of the others but the fact that Sorcha can listen to Fern and process what happened and forgive her is beautiful. Sorcha is also worried about her human people and her fae people. Conall is her fated mate and she must save him! She also must save the nymphs sisters from Achill and go through her Rites before she is meant to and save the people of the human world and Fae world. No big deal! Haha jk it’s a huge deal and she is taking it all in stride. This is a must read

Bugger...
I really liked the 1st book, but the 2nd one did not give me the same feeling at all.
Adding Achill's pov was an interesting idea but unfortunately it hardly added anything and could have been left out in my opinion.
Murdock actually became my favourite character and I feel we could have delved more into his story only that never happened...

Perhaps instead of a duology it could have been just one book, leaving out Achill's pov and maybe some of the new characters...

Book 1 was great. This one...not so much.

What a way to end this duology! While Sorcha is a grown woman in her 30s, I feel like she matured in this book and grew into a real leader. She has grown to be very courageous and selfless, and that carries over to how she rules as Queen of the Earth Fae and humans. She is determined to do whatever it takes to defeat Achill and get revenge for the fae, Conall, and all her people. She sacrifices a lot to finally unite the Fae and humans and to hopefully never have another King like Achill again.
Achill is evil. He has done insane, horrible, unforgivable things. As a reader, I hate him and yet also feel some sympathy for his loss and his descent into madness.
This was such a magical, unpredictable, and tragic story.

I was fortunate enough to reduce an ARC for this book in exchange for an honest review. This review will contain spoilers but will have a spoiler warning before getting to that part.

This was a beautiful finish to the Stone Circle duology! It felt like a natural continuation of book one and kept me captivated by the lush world and intriguing story telling.

Sorcha’s journey has been stunning and I loved the conclusion.

SPOILERS BELOW:

This was gut wrenching. Conall’s captivity infuses the story with a major sense of urgency. King Achill is truly terrifying. A masterfully crafted villain. I highly recommend reading his prequel novella, Of Smoke and Shadows, for a more rounded experience.

I couldn’t put this book down!!

This book is so fun to read. Just like the first, it’s a ton of magic and adventure and don’t forget the spicy spice. I enjoyed this book so much and as always the characters were a joy to read and learn more about. It was wonderful to see some old faces and spend more time with them. And I wasn’t expecting the ending at all but I’m hoping it leaves room for a 3rd book. This romantasy series has become one of my faves and I look forward to reading it again. There is something truly magical about this series. 10/10 overall. Now we need audiobooks lol!!

Would you sacrifice everything to protect that which is believed to be yours? Sorcha does just that in book two of the Stone Circle Series. Be ready for ever swist and turn you can think of as Sorcha and her closet confidants do everything in the power to defeat the False king. Grab both books, find a comfy spot and get reading! You won’t be disappointed.

I must be in the minority here because.... What even WAS THIS book??? What happened to all of the characters from book one?? What happened to the strong focused Sorcha? The love sick Conall? The sneaky and hard to catch Thorne? The absent dad? It was like everyone suddenly did a 180.

I hated Sorcha in this book. She went from this strong woman who was raised her whole life to become a queen to a scared unsure woman who kept second guessing herself (and repeating the same thing over and over). She honestly turned into a petulant child throwing tantrums which managed to keep getting people harmed/kidnapped or killed. WHO wakes up after a year, realizes theyre in the enemys home with said enemy right outside the door with a small army, and their mate telling them they have to leave right that minute and decides to throw a fit instead??? She threw a tantrum and demanded answers to questions that werent even that important in the moment. Then she does it again later and gets her father and opal killed.

Why was the love triangle with Murdock thrown in there??? Don't get me wrong, hence was my favorite side character in this book, but it went from "my mate, my mate my mate" to "screw my mate, lets kiss since im no longer sure i want him" WHAT?! It was so unnecessary are really threw the importance of a mate out of wack. Speaking of mates... in book one the claiming was so hyped up. A bite that would bind them fmtogether forever, never to be undone. Yet in book two, its barely talked about. We dont even get a scene with a claiming bite. It just becomes love bites and no actual binding. What a let down to something so important to their relationship.

WHAT was that ending???? It basically ended mid scene! It should have had at least a few more pages to wrap things up. What was the smoke that came out of the soldiers? Does Sorcha get the sword back? What happens to all of the lands now that the "one ruler" is gone? Does Sorcha rule the human lands too? Is Conall technically a king now? What happens when Sorcha is like 90 and croaks? Does Conall live on?

Book one was so good. It had a well thought out plot, twists that made sense, solid characters, and a clear line of the book. Book two has almost none of this. The prophecy was confusing, the war plans were all over the place and confusing, the random things like the journal not showing the words for anyone but Conall was confusing. I feel like the author wanted to fit so much into the story that they crammed it all in this book and didnt give it all the time and space it needed to make sense.

Nope.

You mean to tell me she was asleep the whole time in the first book? Or as soon as she got to the king?? Nope nope nope.

Literally what the fuck. So like nothing in the first book was real? I can’t.

Updated Review 5.7.2024 -
After reading the author’s updated version, my rating still stands! I very much enjoyed the changes and additions made on the book. It was almost like reading the book for the first time! The additional spice is also very nice 😉😉
I still highly recommend this book if you are a fan of Fae, fae shifters, elemental magic, Arthurian legend, 30ish plus size FMC and of course, spice!
And, once again….I still very much hate Achill 🤣🤣

Ophelia Wells Langley has done it again in this second book of her Stone Circle duology!! This book was phenomenal! 🩷🩷

What a finish this was! I loved everything about these characters and world the author built! Like the first book, this one also contains some twists and turns; and secrets and lies! The author really kept you on your toes throughout the series!

Sorcha’s journey to find her place in the fae world is full of heart wrenching moments and adventures. The author made you feel like you were right there along the journey with her. I will say it again, I absolutely love the fact that Sorcha is a 31 year old female with lots of curves. She is very self conscious of her body, the crows feet around her eyes and her gray hairs. But Conall, loves everything about the way she looks and is constantly telling her not hide herself from him. *swoon*

I am really going to miss this world and all the characters. I am looking forward to novellas featuring some of the side characters.

As for spice…there is an abundance of it. I would give it a solid 4/5 🌶️!!

p.s. I still hate Achill 😂😂

'Let it be a choice,” I say, raising my chin and meeting her gaze directly.'

This is the conclusion to the series and I would recommend reading the prequel Of Smoke and Shadows and book 1 The Borderland Princess as this one begins where book one left off. Sorcha awakens and is free from the High King, Archill. She is running to get to her homeland and the circle of stones before he can find her. Upon returning to her ancestral lands, she is offered the Earth Fae throne. This is her chance to save the people and bring peace to the lands. She makes a bargain with the Goddess in order to complete her rites and get her magic do she can defeat Archill and save Conall and everyone. She worries what will happen when the Fae find out what she had to give up to do it. Will Sorcha be able to save her kingdom and her one true love?

I loved this series but The Stone Circle Queen was the best by far. The sacrifices that each character must make for each other and the good of the kingdom are heartwarming and sad at the same time. Sorcha’s character really evolved in this one and you can see her grow into a confident ruler. She has many choices to make but always weighs the risks with the reward. You also learn more about Thorne, who is one of my favorite characters. We get to see things from Archills POV which helps to understand him better and I felt a little bad for him. It had the perfect amount of romance and a 🌶️🌶️🌶️ on the spice scale. I stayed up late to finish this one and it was totally worth it! I highly recommend this engaging, emotional fantasy read!
