I spent more than half of this novel confused. I deserve a pat on the back for even finishing it, considering how long it is. The translation, which I initially thought was just mediocre, turned out to be edited MTL. I didn’t realize this until I read the T/N in the later chapters. Still, I pushed through because I really wanted to see the main couple’s happy ending. I grew so fond of them and was rooting for them to get the happiness they deserved.

This book is packed with every K-drama cliché you can think of: amnesia, mysterious illness, separation, kidnapping, mafia—you name it. I admit, I enjoyed some parts of it, especially the romance. Their relationship growth was actually really heartwarming, largely because they were equally obsessed with each other. ML deserves everything in the world for how he took care of MC. I didn’t expect him to be so tender and affectionate, but he completely won me over. The more you read, the more you realize just how absolutely devoted he is to MC. He would do anything for him, and his sheer terror at the thought of losing him made me so emotional at times. I have such a soft spot for the sickly shou and protective gong dynamic, and this novel delivered on that.

but I was a bit disappointed with the amnesia plotline. There were mentions of mental illness, and MC had symptoms that made me think it was building up to a big plot twist. like maybe the transmigration or rebirth wasn’t real and MC was just having a psychotic break. That could’ve been amazing, but instead, the author took a much more predictable route.

Overall, the novel was okay, but I wouldn’t recommend it unless a better translation comes out or if it ever gets officially licensed in English. I listened to it using Speechify, which helped smooth over some of the awkward phrasing, but for a purely reading experience, the translation might be a dealbreaker.

A solid 3 stars, but I’ll be nice and give it a 4.

You get to around chapter 90 and then it’s nonstop. When MC was having trouble breathing, surprised, or having trouble seeing I could feel it cuz I was copying him. Love that I’m so engaged that the writing could make me integrate myself. ML isn’t really a red flag, one pretty bad moment yeah, but it was dealt with…
