What can I say, I loved The Mandalorian, and this book contains all the important and dialogue of the first half of season one of the show. Awesome artwork in the book. Also in this book it contains the great cover art, including the varient covers.

If I have one complaint about this book it is there is nothing new in this book that was not in the TV show. I know why that is done, but it would be nice to have a few extra bits for the book. It is simple if you live The Mandalorian TV series, you will love this book.

I've watched the first season of The Mandalorian twice now, so I didn't expect to find much new or interesting in this comic adaptation. Color me surprised, then, that I pretty much loved this!

Turns out, The Mandalorian should have been a comic book all along. Perhaps that explains why the TV version has felt so stilted and awkward to me. The comic format allows for characters to arrive, take part in the action, and depart without much backstory or in-depth conversations. It's fine to not know everything because you have to cram the story in 25 pages! On a streaming TV series, this lack of characterization and explanation stuck out because there's all the time in the world by comparison. In comics, your brain fills in the gaps. On TV, there shouldn't be gaps.

Anyway, this book is basically a word-for-word, scene-for-scene adaptation of the first four episodes of the first Mandalorian season. The art is really good and the pacing is near perfect. I might just skip future seasons on Disney+ and wait for the comic adaptations.

Just what it says on the tin, a shot-for-shot recap of the first half of the first season of the Mandalorian TV show.

This is the way.

I didn't read the description carefully and believed this might be further adventures of the Mandalorian. But, no, it's just the comic adaptation of the first season of the show. The artwork is decent, but a lot of the story is left to still images without any dialogue or description, and thus, parts of the story are skipped or just pretty vague. In this day and age, comic novelizations like this seem like a waste of time.

I wish that the various versions of the Mando seasons weren't being drawn out or released so late after running the shows (junior novelizations, this comics series, trading card sets). I also wish there were "more" added (inner dialogues, not-seen scenes) than just the drawn visuals of shown visuals the audience has already visualized with their vision. This was just alright.

A strong reminder that I should rewatch this show before the start of Season 3....
This Volume is a graphic novel conversion of the first 4 episodes of the Mandalorian. Takes us through the intro to the character, the bounty on the Child, rescuing the Child from the Empire, and then defending a village in Sorgan after meeting Cara Dune. It's a really good interpretation.

You should be watching the show. You should also be reading this, if you read Star Wars graphic novels.

Breaking my own rules for this project and jumping slightly ahead on the timeline because it is going to take me a while to finish 'Last Shot' and I'm in the mood for more comics today. I enjoyed season one of 'The Mandalorian' but found it a little slow. Having the same story in a quick, efficient comic format worked wonders.

Each issue covers one episode of the show and while this obviously means the comic is lacking in depth, it does keep a stronger pace than most of the episodes did. I love being in the 'Star Wars' galaxy but some of those episodes meandered along at a real slog. This book, covering the first four episodes, had a brilliant pace to it. We met all of the important characters and hit each episode's core objective quickly.

The artwork is most great, the only time it isn't is when there are crowds of characters and you can tell the artist couldn't be bothered drawing lots of details. Anyone not focused on suddenly has an emoji face, although even some emojis have more detail than these people. Other than that though I like the artwork and the colours. The dialogue seems like it was taken directly from the show.

You can find my review of season one, part two here (once I've read it) and all of my 'Star Wars' book reviews here.

I'm not even kidding when I say I was hearing his voice the ENTIRE time I was reading. Otherwise this was kind of pointless but I'm not mad about it- it's literally just the show in comic format but slightly abridged and with sometimes questionable art. (Grogu will haunt me.)

Good refresher on what happened in season 1; art was good as well. The narrative structure of the story seemed to be set up for readers who've already watched the show and can understand the flow of events without much detailed explanation. So, newbies going in blind might be left a bit confused. However, it wasn't a bad read overall.

The Mandalorian is a bounty hunter, and he is given the opportunity to retrieve something for which a huge reward has been offered. He succeeds and brings in a child, but he leaves with remorse, and soon goes back to take the child with him.

Graphic novel, this one is called, but I call it a comic book. I shall read on.

Unfortunately, The Mandalorian doesn’t translate very well from TV series to comic book. Barnes does a respectable job with the script and Jeanty’s artwork is gorgeous, but the nature of the show simply doesn’t work as a comic. There’s too little dialogue, so a lot of the story is told through silent panels. But given how fluid and kinetic the show and its action sequences are, that silence doesn’t work anywhere near as well on the page as it does on screen. Jeanty manages to capture a fair amount of that energy, to be fair, but it always feels like something is missing.

It’s a quick read, overall. But that’s also the problem. You don’t really get anything here that you wouldn’t get by just watching the tv version, and that’s a definite disappointment. There was an opportunity here to bring something new to The Mandalorian. But that’s not what this is. It’s a very faithful, somewhat abridged adaptation of the show. I’m not really sure who the audience for this is as hardcore Star Wars fans will have already seen the show, and I can’t see this appealing to a more casual fan.

It's been loads of fun to re-experience the events of Season one through these pages! The artwork is great and it's a well-done retelling, so far.

This graphic novel is the Season One Part One adaptation of The Mandalorian TV series. It contains four issues, each of which covers its correlating episode from the show. For those unfamiliar, it features a Mandalorian bounty hunter in the New Republic era after the downfall of the Empire. When he turns over a bounty, a child of Yoda's species, he fights everything he knows with the Guild and follows his way.

As far as adaptations go, this one is certainly well done. While no art can create the adorableness of The Child as seen on screen, the art in this graphic novel is phenomenal. It was fun to revisit the series through a new medium lens. There is no music, and action seens must be more visualized, but this is certanly an enjoyable addition to the comics universe that any collector should invest in.

This is the Marvel Comics adaptation of the Disney+ series, The Mandalorian. Season 1, volume 1 contains the first 4 episodes of the hit TV series.

I gave this volume 4 stars. Unlike the Manga, this volume is the frame by frame shot of every episode. The comic is produced in colour (the manga is black and white) and the characters aren’t as accurately drawn. (Grogu is really ugly in this volume and he is featured much less)

This comic is more focused on the action elements- gunfights but every scene is much shorter. Having watched the series, I can follow the story. If you haven’t watched the TV show it may be a bit difficult to follow as it’s missing many more frames compared with the manga.

I'm not exactly sure who this is for, really. It's a graphic novel adaptation of the first part of Season 1, which I guess is a nice refresher for those who watched it but don't want to rewatch it, but because it's mostly new characters, I don't know why someone who hadn't watched the show would pick it up. Or why they would want to watch the show after reading it, since they're now caught up on the first half of the first season. I can't say the format adds much new, but at least the art is well done enough that it doesn't detract from it either. It's an interesting experiment that works fine, but doesn't really justify its existence.

This is literally a scene for scene, almost shot for shot retelling of the first four episodes of the season. If that's what you're looking for, then sure, go for it. It's certainly a quicker way to digest everything than by re-watching the series, because even though each issue is extra sized, they fly by because most pages don't have any dialogue on them.

The art's okay. Georges Jeanty is pretty good at capturing likenesses after his time on the Buffy comics, but his Grogu just looks...weird, and I can't even place why exactly.

This is a pretty straightforward effort to adapt the popular Disney+ show into a comic book. I loved the show. I'm just okay with the comic.

It really speaks to how the way the show was put together and how it had a lot more "show" versus "tell" that didn't translate perfectly well into the comic format. The art was decent but not quite as majestic as the vibes or the show or even the concept art featured during the credits. In that sense, it sort of cheapened the experience and further diluted the impact of the book as a whole.

This was a rather straightforward translation of Season 1 from screen to page.
This is fine, it's nothing new, but when combined with volume 2 (which should have just been packaged together), it at least feels complete. This doesn't feel rushed like a lot of these more basic adaptations do, and for the most part, I liked the art. It's not trying to shot-for-shot recreate the show, but its cinematography’s influence is heavily felt. Plenty fine.
Good refresher for me, recapping in order to watch ahead in a faster format than a full re-watch.

This adaptation does The Mandalorian no favors. Sure, there's a few pretty panels but it is completely devoid of the pace, style, and charm that made the show a hit. It also fails at adding anything new to canon; my favorite adaptations are the ones that give us just a bit more than what we saw on screen, or let us see something in a different light.

This is exactly what it says on the cover: a graphic novel adaptation of the first half of Season 1 of the hit Disney+ show. It covers the first four episodes faithfully with decent art. Actually watching the show is better, but if you need a quick refresher or don't have access to Disney+, then this is a great way to experience the hit show and cultural phenomenon that is The Mandalorian.

An almost shot for shot adaptation of the first half of Season 1 of The Mandalorian. I'm not really sure who this is for. Just go watch the show. And if you've seen the show, this doesn't add anything to it. I'm honestly surprised Marvel even hired a writer. They could have just handed Georges Jeanty the scripts.

There isn't anything new or substantial added to these adaptations, so if that is what you are looking for, you could pass on these. This really is for huge fans of the show who want to enjoy the story in a different medium. The artwork overall is not my style, but there are some fun panels. Some episodes translate well into single issue comics, some not so much.

Of course the live-action series is great, and there is no way that a comic adaptation could really do it justice. I've got to be honest here, I really didn't love the artwork, which is why I'm giving a relatively low rating. This is completely skippable.
