Four years ago, Viper was killed. But she never had any intention of remaining dead…
When Alina Maschik walked away from her former life, she was hoping to live in relative peace. She should have known better. As top energy executives across the world begin dropping dead, Viper comes out of retirement to do what she does best: the impossible. But nothing is ever as easy as it seems, especially when the target is her husband.
Michael O’Reilly has a new life. After a tragic loss, he walked away from the civilian existence he knew and stepped into the shadows. But spying for his country brings its own challenges, and when his hunt for an international arms dealer takes him into the path of a dead assassin, things get complicated.
Racing across war-torn Ukraine, two operatives must forget the past and focus on finding the one man who can help locate a deadly foe before it’s too late…
CW Browning is a great story teller and I enjoy her writing style. As the byline of the book states, this book takes place 4 years after the events in book 7 of the Exit series, we catch up with familiar characters and are introduced to new ones. From the first chapter I was engaged with the characters and the story. Set against the back drop of current world events, there is action, intrigue, (official) cover ups of criminal activities by individuals and the alphabet agencies of the USA and UK trying to contain the fall out of bad decisions made by shady (government) officials in high places who are motivated by power and greed. People playing dangerous games and a twist toward the end of the book made for a great entertaining and for me a thought provoking read. After reading this book, looking at world events with some critical thinking, observing the continued gaslighting of world news stories who all seem to have been generated from the same "one source", the fictional events described in this book just don't seem to be as "out there" as I once believed. There is no need to have read the exit series as there is enough background information to follow along, but my suggestion would be to purchase the exit series box sets and read the previous 7 books if you enjoy action-filled thrillers. A great read.
*I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book*
I love the way the author pulls you in on the first page and let you go till the last page. When you start reading you will not want to stop until you finish. Michael has spent four years looking for Viper. He just didn't believe she was dead even though he saw the boat explode. He had came close to finding her a couple of times. Then Charlie sends him on a mission to find the Cuban an arms dealer. Viper's husband has been imprisoned and is being tortured. She knows the key to finding and getting him out is the Cuban. Charlie sends her to rescue her husband. This is a very good book and a must read if you like a well written exciting book.
The Cuban is (hopefully) the first book in CW Browning's After the Exit series. We thought we had said goodbye to Viper forever at the end of The Exit Series but she's back!! What a fabulous gift from CW Browning. If you were a fan of The Exit Series you need to read this! If you have never read The Exit Series you need to read this! Viper and Hawk are lovable assasains that you need in your life whether or not you know their history! Looking forward to many more books in this series!
I must say I’m a fan of CW Browning writing! It all started with her series with Evie. Although I have not read all of the Exit series just the first two, I enjoyed this book. It is probably best to read it in order to stay up to par but I was able to catch up. (I will go and read the rest eventually, just gotta know.) It is well written and holds your attention. I don’t think I can pass up any of her books! Well done and thanks for quality writing.
I could not stop reading and was very excited to have Viper and Hawk back in full form. Pretty suspenseful however still easy to read in one or two sittings. I highly recommend reading this next addition to the series and look forward to seeing the direction these operatives will take us in the future. There may even be some new characters you will enjoy.
It’s hard to imagine how C W Browning can raise the stakes any higher for her iconic female assassin from the EXIT series but somehow in this new series she does. A must read.
What a way to come back! Enthralling as ever, the author really sets the scene and so many puzzle pieces come together. Can’t wait for the next instalment!
Viper is back and I couldn’t be happier! CW Browning’s The Exit series is one of my favourite assassin series so when Viper made a comeback I was all over this novel!
