“I don’t want to live like this either, only ever being despised.” Life in hard mode for “villain” Penelope Eckhart means with every step forward, she’s shoved five steps back. Just when things seem to be stabilizing between her and the brothers, she finds herself coming to blows with Reynold, who insists on dredging up the past—an affront Penelope refuses to take lying down. To make matters worse, she’s forced to attend the hunting tournament hosted by the crown prince…and Callisto + weapons = a recipe for DANGER!
Not gonna lie, chapters with Prince Callisto made me blush and giggle like a teenage girl (which I still am. I'm definitely not turning 21 next month).
This continues to be a cut above all other villainess isekai stories. Penelope's actions are informed not just by the game world, but by her past in a similar situation to that of the character she now embodies, and in this volume she really lets that work in her favor. All of the things she swallowed back in Korea she suddenly allows herself to say, and regardless of what it does to the plot, it's clearly very cathartic for her. She's not just living as a game character, she's having the chance to resolve her own issues, and when you pair that with the way the author factors in how otome games actually work, this is the smartest of its genre currently available in English.
This series is so good! While there isn’t much that I can say about this particular installment, I’m really enjoying the advancements that we’re seeing with Penelope’s character. This game has me on the edge of my seat, so I couldn’t imagine how stressed she is. There were some great confrontations that occurred in this one with a lot of built up tension. I’m so excited to continue with the series and see what happens next because no one and I mean no one can be trusted!
Layers upon layers. I love the complexity to this story and the fact that what you see at face value, isn't usually the reality of the matter. I do not know what the end goal in this story is, but those Penelope & Eckles scenes have me living, laughing, loving. That cliffhanger was just cruel until the next volume!
AJSDJJDSLS THE CROWN PRINCE IS SO ..... 😍😍😍😍😍 (unhinged love interests >>>>>)
also i love eckles' devotion to penelope :') i have a feeling though that he will become unhinged as well .... and in a way that will possibly put penelope's life at risk 😬
I prefer the Tappytoons’ translation, this one is too informal and weird, but Penelope is Mai Queen, so still 5 stars, no question. I LOVE this series!

Penelope is an EXCELLENT example of a girl boss who can absolutely slay!
Goodness, I love her character so much and how smart she is when needing to think on her feet! She surprises me just as much as the other characters do, especially when she gave Reynold a piece of her mind!
And let me just say…
YOU TELL HIM PENELOPE!!
Oh my goodness, I was SO angry after that conversation she had with him! I cannot stand him despite that I did like him in volume one, but now? UGH, NO! I hope she bests him in EVERYTHING! In action, in conversation, I hope she always outwits and outplays him because I loathe his character. Her actions were DEEPLY satisfying in this one when it came to him.
I have started to like Eckles more, though I worry Penelope's plan is not going to unfold the way she anticipates. I feel that he will grow VERY jealous in the future because that one moment later on was a prime example of things that can easily backfire (even if it had nothing to do with jealousy in that moment). I can't say I necessarily ship them together, but now that we have seen Callisto once again, I'm still totally terrified of his character. Maybe with the preview of the next chapter, I won't be so worried, but at least he and Eckles are a hundred times better than her brothers.
I have continued to really like Emily and even Penelope's Father! Emily has really come a long way since the beginning while her Father is treating Penelope with actual respect. (Or at least more so than before anyway.)
The guy who sold the weapons was funny and liked him a lot!
Overall, another FANTASTIC volume! Truly rivals for one of my favorite manhwa because Penelope continues to slay and can't wait to see what happens next, especially with that cliffhanger!
Penelope confronting Reynolds warmed my shriveled up black hole of a heart. I love her confronting all of the people who have bullied her as well as showing little known discussed facets of bullying and how victims are expected to behave. I never expected I would love this series as much as I do, but I am locked in.
loved seeing penelope stand up for herself and put the stupid little brother in his place. I honestly can’t get a good read on either brother..they are still so terrible to her. glad to see her relationship with her adopted father/the duke is improving. callisto at this point just seems kinda crazy…? her knight is very puppy-dog and seems too easy to be endgame.
hope we get more of winter in the next volume!!
