This work is a decent overview of raising rabbits as a hobby. Various breeds are described as well as feeding and breeding. There is a good section on illnesses and other ailments that can affect rabbits.
This book is an excellent source for beginners and expert rabbit handlers. Having raised pet rabbits for most of my life I have a lot of appreciation for the tips and information provided in this book. It provides the basic care of rabbits and also the important medical alerts to be aware of when taking care of a rabbit. I would strongly suggest people read this BEFORE deciding on a rabbit as a pet.
I normally love reading non-fiction about animals. This book was genuinely difficult to read.
Since the author is also a veterinarian I had high hopes for this book, hoping the qualified author would make the book's contents more reputable. I did find some information that is largely regarded as incorrect even for the time of publication. It might be inconsistencies due to when the book was actually written vs when the information became available, and the book may have been published later. So I don't hold this against the author.
One thing I couldn't look past was the grammar errors and poor writing structure. The book almost feels rushed to be written, and it made me question the legitimacy with simple errors made in writing. The author inputs personal stories haphazardly, and it feels very unprofessional. Sometimes these personal recollections are extremely short where I feel like the author should have gone on longer to fully explain her point. Other times the stories are rather long for what it should be. Every time, these stories are slapped into an otherwise strictly informational paragraph. It felt very out of place and felt improper.
I can't quite pin who the audience is for this book - the author uses a large vocabulary but the tone was written like it is geared towards a younger audience. Some very simple things were over-explained, while other subjects are barely discussed.
This book should be on every rabbit owners shelf. All the basic info you need to own a bun. The book is well organized for quick reference. Simply written with right to the point
I read up on rabbit care non stop for a whole week straight before I brought home my little bunny. I made sure to read various websites and compare and contrast information. My bunny has been with me for almost 7 months and I thought I would refresh my memory and read up on rabbit care so I started to read this handbook. While this book does have good information, it also lacks instruction and has some misinformation as well. I put it as read, but I didn't actually finish it since I was afraid there would be more misinformation.
Lots of great information about rabbits, their behaviors, their health, and how to care for them. There's also quite a bit of information about the different rabbit breads and coat colorations. The only criticism I have is that having more photos in the breeds/colorations section would have been very helpful. But other than that, it's a fantastic book for rabbit owners.
