In the aftermath of falling into Alice's carefully laid trap, Laura finds herself imprisoned in the Anomaly Containment Association—an underground government facility dedicated to the research and containment of anomalies. And even though the place feels relatively safe, Alice is plotting something that might put all of their lives in danger.
Laura knows she needs to stop Alice, and soon, but now that she's under constant surveillance and separated from most of her friends, she can't do much. The ACA's tight security makes it impossible to even speak freely without the fear of being reprimanded by Alice herself. Fortunately, an unlikely ally agrees to hear Laura out, but even with the help of someone on the inside, the odds seem stacked against her. And the longer Laura is trapped in the ACA, the more she learns about the organization and its sinister hidden agendas.
In this riveting conclusion to the Echoes trilogy, Laura is faced with some of her biggest challenges yet. Will she be able to discover the true power she wields in time to fix everything? Or will her enemies triumph yet again?
Marissa decided early on that she never wanted to grow up, so she became an author of young adult novels. When she isn’t writing her own books or reading everything she can get her hands on, you can usually find her somewhere in the outdoors admiring nature or curled up on the couch playing The Legend of Zelda.
I was able to read the ARC and I couldn't be more thankful for the opportunity! Congratulations for your first trilogy Marissa!!!!!! So proud of you!!!! ❤️❤️❤️ I really liked the concept (X-Men vibes), every book was really enjoyable and I couldn't let them go. I think if I'd read this when I was younger, not joking, it would be one of my favourite trilogies. As an adult, I just wished this story was bigger and not so fast paced/rushed. In this book that was a bit noticeable but it was ok. Either way, I liked how it turned out and how Laura evolved! From her powers being a burden and then turned into something more and something I really wasn't expecting. That was nice. Overall, I think everyone should read this trilogy because it is a cute, comfortable, adventurous and mysterious reading.
What an incredibly satisfying and rewarding finale!
The reason I didn’t start reading this book any sooner is that I knew I wouldn’t be able to put it down again once I got going, and that’s exactly what ended up happening. I read most of Heroes last night, in one sitting. I’m not going to talk about the action (there’s plenty + it’s very well-written) and the plot twists (plenty of HOLY CRAP moments!). I’m a character-first reader, so that’s what I’ll focus on. There are SO MANY GUSH-WORTHY MOMENTS in this novel! It’s not even fair! The slow-burn romance between Laura and Maverick finally pays off here. I couldn’t get enough of these two — their connection is so soft and gentle. It’s obvious how much they genuinely care about each other as people, not just as love interests. The way Lete explores the complexity of living with extraordinary powers is amazing. In this book, we learn why Maverick has been so hesitant to re-enter into a relationship with Laura, and damn. It makes so much sense. If you’ve been rooting for these two all along, you’ll find exactly what you’re looking for in this book. Promise. There’s also plenty of adorable and legitimately hilarious banter between these two! Their scenes are so beautiful to read — a kaleidoscope of deep and beautiful and genuine feelings. I’m also in awe of Laura as a character. There’s a lot of character growth over the course of the series, and seeing Laura stand up for herself here is beautiful. She’s no stereotypically plucky heroine. She’s still the shy, thoughtful, and deeply caring girl she’s always been, but she’s learned to stand her ground and not take any crap from anybody. It’s impossible not to root for Laura. Her character arc is realistic and full of struggle but also incredibly wholesome. And I’m so glad she gets to embrace the full extent of her truly awe-inspiring powers in this book. I gifted this series to a 13-year-old relative of mine, who devoured it and even faster than I did. The lessons about self-acceptance in this book are just right for its young target audience. I plan on recommending Lete’s trilogy to my 7th and 8th graders and hope they’ll fall in love with Laura, Maverick, and the other anomalies just like I did.
Thank you for this gorgeous finale, Marissa! And thank you for writing an ending that made me cry.
This was definitely a high stakes conclusion to the trilogy! We got a lot more insight into the antagonistic forces of the trilogy to better understand their motives and reasoning. Learning more about Laura's ability to hear echoes of the past, and what else she could do with it was very interesting, because I definitely didn't expect it to be useful except in remembering stuff you forgot this time last year. (Although, for how forgetful I am, that could be very useful!)
I definitely needed more. The final fight/last climax was too fast, too quickly resolved behind the scenes. The confrontation was amazing, stressful, and nail-biting, but man I would have loved more of the actual "fight" to happen on paper, even if it needed to be another character POV for a chapter. The last couple chapters felt a little too much, "in summation" instead of getting to watch everything unfold.
I still have so many questions I want answered, although some of them have nothing to do with the main plot at all, just my own curiosity. 😅 Most of my theories about character's true identities and such proved to be untrue and not even a question (maybe I've read too many crazy twist books recently 🤔).
As a romantic who loves a flair for the emotional damage and drama, I would have loved more stakes in the relationship, but the romance was still written well. (I also have to keep remembering these were teenagers, not mid-twenties folks.) The romance was still clean and sweet and I love everything about Laura and Maverick. ❤
All in all, a really fascinating ending to the trilogy! I definitely wanted more: more details, more nitty gritty with the abilities, more obstacles (yes, more obstacles, occasionally things felt a little convenient).
But did I still enjoy it? You betcha! Such a unique concept for a book series, with a main character I very much related to, having a brain that just wouldnt.stop.talking. 🤌🏻 You all should try this trilogy!
First of all, the level of frustration Alice gave me in this trilogy was unhealthy. I swear I wanted to throw my kindle across the room every time she ruined the heroes’ plans for the billionth time. But I commend Marissa Lete for writing this complex villain, because if she wanted me to hate her—yet also feel for her?—boy did she succeed.
The book regained the structure it slightly lacked in the second book, and it gripped me from beginning to end. We finally get into the belly of the beast, meet new characters, and of course reach the end of the adventure.
Speaking of …
The ending had me emotional! The descriptive prose of Laura’s ability, that tie in scene from the first book, the hope and light and relief that washed over her and me as the reader, it was cinematic to the point I could almost hear the soundtrack. Simply *chef’s kiss.* I would totally watch this if it was made into a movie!
And Maverick … sweet protective boi, he and Laura were my favorite!
A very good book with a very good ending to the trilogy.
5/5 would recommend (I was an ARC reader for this)
An epic conclusion! Heroes picks up right where Anomalies left off with all our faves in a very precarious position. The action and momentum never let up for a moment, and I flew through this book even more quickly than the previous two. If these books had existed when I was in middle school, I think they would’ve become my whole personality, and I would’ve spent days daydreaming about what my ability could be!
It’s difficult to write such an intelligent villain as Alice and stay a step ahead of the reader as much as the anomalies, and Marissa Lete handled it deftly. Even as a grown woman reading a YA trilogy, I felt like I figured out her plans at just the right moments.
Heroes addressed some adult topics like government conspiracy, life threatening situations, revolution, and being forced to work with morally gray characters and organizations in ways that are palatable and appropriate for younger readers. It shows us all to value what makes us special and that the things we’ve carried as burdens can be the very things that save us in the end. Loved this whole trilogy, and I can’t wait for the whole world to give it the attention it deserves!
Wow! This trilogy was incredible; and what an ending to the Echoes trilogy. Throughout the book, I found myself questioning the motives of certain characters, feeling worried for Laura and nervous that she'd trusted the wrong person. I won't spoil it for future readers, but it was one of those page turners that you just can't put down. The author is very good at telling the story and making you want to root for Maverick and Laura, as well as the rest of the anomalies. I highly recommend this book for everyone and hope that you all enjoy the books as much as I did.
Wow! I’m blown away! This story sucked me in from the start. When the third book came out, I decided to go back and read the first two again before starting the third. I’m so glad I did! Although I got almost nothing done the past few days, I was completely invested in this story. Loved the characters, loved the messages. I’m only left hoping for more as I wonder what happens now? What becomes of my favorite characters?
Holy moly, this was absolutely the most perfect conclusion to this trilogy! I loved it all the way through and I am so happy that Laura and the others got a happy ending! The ending literally almost made me spill tears, and I am so happy I read the trilogy! I look forward to reading more of Marissa Lete’s work in the future and I definitely recommend the trilogy! Please go check it out, you won’t regret it!
I read this story over a year ago, and the ethereal moment at the finale + the ending line of that particular chapter have stuck with me to this day. And every time I think about it, I feel just a bit more at peace than I was before. And that's an achievement in its own right with how much else we have fighting for headspace. I can only hope someone might say the same about my own books.
The finale we've been waiting for! Marissa did it again! She perfectly crafted an awesome conclusion to the trilogy with plenty of twists, and the ending was *chef's kiss*
If you love X-Men and Shatter Me, give this series a read!
I'm so excited to share the final installment of the Echoes Trilogy with the world!
This book was so much fun to write, and I've been waiting for so long to tell the ending of Laura and Maverick's story. I can't wait for you to read it!
Twist, turns, memories. Everything! And I still shake a little bit. Maybe because I’m still in disbelief that this is the end of such a wonderful trilogy. I must say that it’s been a delight to read this ARC and that I can’t wait to hopefully hold the physical copy in my own hands one day.
One of my new favorite series! This final book of the trilogy keeps you on your toes the entire time, wondering what’s going to happen next! Something you would never expect happens, then you’re sucked in again and can’t stop reading. Coming from a young adult, I really recommend this book to everyone!
