With Angels as Witness

Rate this book
Every angel in the Realm knows that the long-awaited Messiah is coming very soon. And they know because all the angel choirs have been practicing their songs of praise and adoration - they've been practicing a lot. There's just one problem. The big event won't happen until Gabe completes his latest assignment, and he's run into a spot of trouble. Will Gabe insist on making this special announcement the way he's always done before? Or, will he listen to the advice of his friends and adapt to the situation? With angels as witness to God's unfolding plan, what could possibly go wrong? With Angels as Witness is a actually tow stories intertwined into one; the Gospel story of Jesus alongside the fictional tale of the angels who are observing, critiquing, and sometimes obsessing about what is happening to their beloved Messiah. Scriptural references and discussion questions are provided to encourage readers to give new thought and curiosity to what the Bible tells us.

I hate being the first one to leave a review. It makes me feel bad, as I dont want it to come across as I did not enjoy this because that is not the case. I did enjoy the story and the authors writing style, but I do think there is room for improvement in how the gospel was presented.

This is a story of the gospel through the perspective of various angels, including Gabriel and Michael, as they are sent on tasks to prophesy to people and witness Jesus' ministry throughout his life. The angels were more human-like, which made them easy to relate to, but I dont feel this book is an accurate depiction of their true holiness.

I know even in the bible there is a big time jump from when Jesus was a young boy to the time he started his ministry as a man, but I feel like if the reader is not familiar with the Bible or Jesus' life there would be much confusion when reading this. Between chapters 8 and 9, the story goes from King Herod killing all the boys 2 and under to John baptizing Jesus and then immediately Jesus spending 40 days in the wilderness and being tempeted by the devil with no context, and then more bible stories were added at random throughout the remainder of the book. Jesus is mentioned early in the book as the Messiah sent to save the world but again, I feel that of the reader isn't saved or already know the Bible, the gospel presented here would not mean much.

There are scripture references throughout the book to coincide with what the author is presenting in the story, which I loved, but the story, in general, was just all over the place. I just don't feel the story was presented in a way that would resonate with all readers, especially those who are not familiar with the gospel already or their need for a Savior.

Since there are no other reviews or ratings, I don't feel comfortable putting a star rating.
