Look, I don’t mind the occasional house guest. After all, cats are well-known for their hospitality. Okay, maybe that’s not entirely true, but when a woman moved in and immediately announced she was allergic to cats and induced Odelia to kick us all out of the house, I admit I wasn’t happy about it. And then when Chase was taken to the hospital suffering from a mysterious ailment at the same time as the four of us came down with a weird rash, it was enough to cause me to worry.
And this was even before the strange events began in earnest. Burglars, spies and other denizens of the underworld suddenly circled our home—that technically wasn’t our home anymore. Suffice it to say I was starting to feel the heat!
Nic has a background in political science and before being struck by the writing bug worked odd jobs around the world (including but not limited to massage therapist in Mexico, gardener in Italy, restaurant manager in India, and Berlitz teacher in Belgium).
When he’s not writing he enjoys curling up with a good (comic) book, watching British crime dramas, French comedies or Nancy Meyers movies, sampling pastry (apple cake!), pasta and chocolate (preferably the dark variety), twisting himself into a pretzel doing morning yoga, going for a run, and spoiling his big red tomcat Tommy.
He lives with his wife (and aforementioned cat) in a small village smack dab in the middle of absolutely nowhere and is probably writing his next ‘Mysteries of Max’ book right now.
Really enjoyed this Max mystery! A nice switch up with just Max and Dooley solving this mystery with Jackie, the mole. I totally enjoyed this story line with Odelia on the side lines as she stays with Chase. It was a mystery full of twists and turns keeping me glued to the book to the very end. As always I love this series! Can't wait to see what Max and Dooley will get involved in next!!!
I adore reading the adventures of Max and his pals. This time Dooley meets Jackie, a mole, who D thinks is a precursor to alien invasion. A lady (in distress) contacts Odelia and Odelia offers her home for protection. Chase suffers from a stomach bug, but ends up in a coma. Meanwhile, Francine, the aforementioned "lady in distress", kicks the cats out of their home. And that is not all. But I really liked the entire 'tail'!
Max and friends are perplexed when Odelia invites a stranger to stay in her house for a few days. They are dismayed to learn that the stranger does not like cats and requests that Odelia keep the cats away from her. Join Max and the gang as they try to figure out what the stranger is doing.
Ok, so this story was filled with so many twists and turns I can’t really think of one to talk about—we’ve got drugs, moles, cats, dogs, intrigue with intruders—take your pick, but all in all a good story, so different from the others that it’ll hold your interest for sure.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book that is why I gave it 5 stars. I loved the comedic element between Jackie the mole and the fabulous foursome. Also I wasn’t expecting the twist at the end of the book, very clever. I have loved every one of Nic’s 62 books and look forward to reading many more.
The cats are diagnosed with ringworm and need to be kept away from Grace. A young girl from a prominent family wants to try a jumping competition, her father has money troubles. A mole moves in along with a stranger. All told they catch the bad guys.
I loved the little mole. What a sweet little addition to this story and she sure was a sweetie. Nice to have another animal. She made me look at moles differently. Sometimes I wish we could talk to animals.
The characters are fantastic and quirky. The plot is twisty and interesting with no murder just mayhem. The world building is good. The humor is wonderful.
