I’m going to start by saying I am NOT someone to read self help books. But this one was wonderful! It was so detailed and easy to follow/ understand that I just couldn’t put it down once I started. I love how it compared self care routines of well known celebrities while also giving helpful tips for the every day crazy busy mom life. As a mom of a 5 and 6 year old who works two full time jobs, takes care of a cat and 4 dogs, full time RVs and home schools the kids? This book was all too relatable and hit home just perfectly! One of my favorite things was the listed websites for all of the names information found in the book so that I was able to look and do my own research on top of what was mentioned in the book! 100% recommend for a quick read to get some awesome advise on how to take care of yourself in todays crazy busy world!
I got this book as part of a self care event we had at work. This book reiterates a lot of the usual points: importance of rest, healthy diet, engaging in activities you enjoy, etc. There were som great mantras and little mindfulness snippets that I did enjoy & get something out of. However, I didn’t think this book was anything special or groundbreaking. I HATED the celebrity examples & all the amazing self care things they engage in; this is all assuming that celebrities are self actualized & lead fulfilling lives, which I think is for the most part very false. Overall a decent enough read, but this reminded me of why I don’t read a lot of “self help” books.
This book is an easy read yet it is chalk full of ways to take back the self love we so often give away at the expense of external busyness. As women we make sure everyone else has their needs met ensuring they feel loved and supported but this book reminds us that we cannot give from an empty cup and we must take care of ourselves too. The tone is soft and caring yet reminds us throughout the book that we are important too. It gently explains the many reasons we feel tired, run down, sad and even hopeless but it also offers so many ideas on how to make even the smallest daily change that will bring joy and connection back to our daily lives, even if you think you have no time in your day. Many of us know, or have read about, these things here and there but rarely take even 5 minutes to slow down and breathe or think about our day let alone what we want to accomplish or the things we have already accomplished. I loved the journaling prompts given in the book and how to create a plan for self care. There are so many great ideas. It was also a good reminder that it's okay to give ourselves grace if the plan needs to change as we go. This is a great reference book to keep handy and look at again and again. People of any age or gender will get something from this book that can be implemented immediately. Just take it slow and read a little each day. You will be glad you did.
“Self-Care Habits for Busy Women” is written for those who live in constant rush and feel that caring for themselves always ends up last on the list. Tula Rhodes delivers a simple yet persistent message: choosing yourself every day is not selfishness, but a necessary condition for survival and balance. The book is built around the idea that burnout should not be normalized, and self-care can become a new discipline. The strength of the book lies in its structure. Rhodes lays out six steps that help break free from the cycle of overcommitment: from setting boundaries and taking micro-pauses to re-prioritizing sleep, body, and emotional health. This is not abstract theory but a set of actionable tools tailored for real, overloaded lives.
The book works especially well for women accustomed to multitasking and treating self-care as a luxury. Rhodes gently but firmly reframes it as essential, showing that without regular renewal neither productivity nor happiness is sustainable. The tone is supportive and friendly, like advice from a close friend.
The weakness is its predictability: many of the suggestions will feel familiar to anyone who has read other self-care or time management guides. There is little that is truly unique, but that simplicity is also its greatest strength. For an overburdened audience, clarity and direct encouragement may be exactly what makes Self-Care Habits for Busy Women effective.
I dont normally read self care books because they usually don't seem to relate to my life.. However I thought Tula did a wonderful job writing this one. It was very interesting and very informative and I could use what I was reading. I read through the whole book and will be going through it again to help me with my own life and better self care. I would recommend this to all women. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Reading Tula's self care tips as I started out 2023 was a little motivational! It made me sit back and rethink my goals and priorities for 2023.
It is full of a lot of researched information and at times, I felt like I was reading a research paper. So I have to admit, I skimmed some parts. The 6 steps at the end sums it all up, but each step has multiple parts.
I think busy women who take the time to read through it all, will get some good tidbits, but I suggest using a highlighter as you read through to grab what might inspire you to take better care of yourself this year.
I was so honored to receive this book before it was published. It was almost the new year and I definitely was very busy and needed a change. I loved the easy way i could read through the book like Tula was physically talking to me! I am still learning to incorporate the habits in my daily life but i am glad to have a sort of blueprint to go back and review as i make positive changes in my life. I do recommend reading for yourself!
I got this book as a review. Of course, I was thinking o man another self help book . Yes, it's self help but the things I learned in this book amazed me. Some things are repeated from other self helps but she goes more in depth into the subjects. If your wanting more information on how to put yourself first or how to break out of anxiety and stress plus more this book is for you.
I thought Tula did a wonderful job writing this book. It was very interesting and very informative. I love how the book went over stress and anxiety right from the start. I read through the whole book and now I am going to go through it again to help me with my own personal life. Definitely recommend this to all women. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I received a free copy of this book for the purpose of reviewing it. The author provides strategies for self-care, not just for thebody, but the mind and spirit as well. Some of the tools I was familar with and others were new. I will make use of those strategies/tools that work for me - and do not add more stress to my life.
Absolutely loved this book! This is a step by step simple way to self care. Each chapter can be delved into deeper on your own. But she gives the basics. And that is a start! Self care is multifaceted. The real day examples are perfect. I will be giving this as gifts to those I love that need to practice this as well.
I don’t think I’ve ever written a bad book review, but wish I had been warned. I finished reading it to meet my reading challenge goals, but it was painful. Aside from the meditation techniques, the content seemed like basic common sense. This busy woman isn’t looking for a list of more things I should be trying…🫠
While this book has some good advice, it also has some bad advice (eg, advises avoiding using sunglasses or visor when getting sun). It lacks indicators that point people to therapist/counselor for further help or if dealing with x amount of issues discussed. Also, it could have used another round with a proofreader (clothes going to land mines?).
We as woman need to remember to slow down and take care of our selves first so we can better take care others. This book give you the tips and tools and then some to do just that.
1st I wanna start off by saying I am Not usually a big fan of Self Help books but this one took me by surprise.. I only wish I had had it as a guide 25 years ago when I had multiple children of a diverse age group running around my house making me feel like I was losing my mind. She even went as far to give you a guide to be able to follow and I will tell you I wish I had that to this day. She's very encouraging and very supportive with the different Styles in which to get your personal life under a manageable situation that works out best for you. I'd say you will be better for reading it. Happy Reading 📚
