I loved this mafia story written by a gifted and talented author. It ended on a cliffhanger but while reading I was glued to the page and read in one sitting.
Konstatin “Kon” meets Iris at an LA party when he tries to protect her from an aggressive man. Iris rebuffs his attempts at assistance with a sassy “I don’t need a man to fight my battles”. From there Kon throws up his hands and ignores her which catches her attention and his nonchalant attitude causes them to spend a couple of hours together and they part ways. We are taken ten years later when Kon finds out he has a son.
I loved the interaction between Kon and his son Max. Max reduced this Bratva don to his knees and their times together were priceless. Of course you had the push and pull between Kon and Iris which is par for the course with this trope usually but she sometimes got on my nerves with her tough act.
I can’t wait to dive into the next book as it ended with a whopper. Highly recommend this duet if you like Russian mafia.

One of the most frustrating FMC ever written. She just spoiled the entire book.

The writing is good and the author does a good job of providing the reader with a solid backstory because this book has a ten year gap before it progresses to the present. Kon is everything I expect in a Bratva leader and is everything I look for in an anti-hero/MMC. He is dominate and sure footed even with everyone around him yapping in his ear and unlike some characters in this genre that are just pure evil and mean. He is a great combination of heart/soul and tough and calculated when he needs to be.
Iris' character got on my nerves about 35% into this book. I even started skimming because I felt that 400 plus pages was much too long to read about her indecisiveness, her inability to see the trees from the forest and her stubbornness. Yes there is plenty of drama to divert from the main story, but the premise of the story took far too long to unfold. The book felt too drawn out as the drama piled on.
Iris' character is a mixture of strength and weakness which is on a collision course throughout this book. She has a history of making bad decisions (including getting pregnant in a one-night stand) pursuing a career she hates and then fighting Kon throughout much of this book when he wants to know his son and take care of her. She managed to get a degree in Advertising but still at 28 bangs away at a half-ass modeling career. She has pissed off some people at the top of the food-chain in the modeling world who undermine her throughout this book, got involved with a drug ridden, promiscuous singer/rocker for two years; pays her piece of s.....t father money each month, while she and Max live in squalor, but still loves a man she spent just a few hours with that produced Max, her son. She NEVER contacted Kon or even tried to let him know he had a son finding baseless excuses to support that decision. I feel like her character doesn't believe that she has any right to happiness or any right to a life that is not filled with "what ifs" or "should haves".
When Kon learns that he has a son from a quick hook up ten years earlier with a woman he has never forgotten and fantasizes about, pursues Iris and Max at at time when he is due to marry (arranged) to erase daddy dearests' debts. This story is a complete train wreck from the standpoint that his father has done nothing but lie to him about EVERYTHING and is forcing his son to wipe away all of his poor decisions, poor leadership resulting in extensive money losses and an indebtedness that must be fixed through his sons' arranged marriage for his Bratva to survive.
There's some issues with the authors' reference to the Bratva and the people in it, but nothing that most readers would notice.
The book ends on a cliff hanger with a ending that could easily destroy everything these two characters' have overcome in book one. Hopefully it is not a reset of book one but leaves off from book one.

I truly was invested in this book from Kon to Max and even iris to a point. That point of interest died and I could not continue on bc of Iris! Omfgosh! She is the worst character ever! Who knows what happened to make her a distrustful, insane, lonely, snobbish, prideful women above even her own survival(at least again with Kon), to never letting anyone close to her. She has no friends, no casual people nothing! She won't even make eye contact with the other moms at her sons school, Who does that?!? Then she has the nerve to ask one of them why no one ever talked to her...bc your a loner, who stays away from everyone and puts off a don't talk to me vibe! I'm surprised she loves and lets her own son in! Her son who she chooses not to the tell the father about ever! Luckily he found out that he had a mini me running around, but he missed 9 yrs of his life! 9 years!!
I have huge issues with any one parent(character) not allowing the other to participate in their child's life out of their own selfish behavior! And she was selfish, she did not want to share Max, maybe bc he's the only one she allows to love her! She ruined this book! If I was Kon I'd get to know my son, have visitations and tell Iris to take a mfing hike!
The story does little to help you understand why she acts, behaves, infuriates you the reader. There is no history of why she is a loner, pushes everyone away and by not telling the reader anything it does not allow you to either sympathize or understand why she is the way she is. Instead you just want to throw your Kindle. I first thought that maybe the was book 2 and her backstory was told prior, but nope this is book 1.
If you like to be confused, pissed off reading a story and honestly want to smack a character then this book is for you! I tried so hard thinking eventually she'd stop being a bitch, eventually she'll stop punishing Kon for things he never did ( but whatever she ran from her hometown for) but sadly 87% in and I was so frustrated with her idiot actions I couldn't even finish this book! I'm not sure why this got high reviews bc Iris is a crazy bitch and not in a fun way! Will not recommend and will not read anything in or about this series ever!

Ehhh
I really liked this book at first. I loved the FMC and her fire AT first but 80% in it got old and felt unnecessary. She was just making things harder on herself and at some point you need to set your pride aside and make sure you have a roof over your kids head. At the end I mostly skipped her parts because I couldn't do the pity party anymore. It was just could enough that I think I might read the second one but im really not sure if I can read a whole nother book with her in it.

Ms West is a new author to me, but this won't be the last of her books that I read. I somehow managed to get this duo the wrong way round but that didn't detract overmuch. Great story, great characters

Synopsis sorta*
Naomi West's Caged rose tells the story of an 18yrs old Iris, who left her home due to abuse from her father after her mother's suicide. Leaving home for L.A, she goes into the modelling gig under David. And then, on her first outing to one of L.A parties to make connections, she meets Konstatin, Kon for short, a Bratva. As you might have guessed, yes, things happened but they went their separate ways before she realised she was pregnant. Now ten years later, they meet again, because of their son.
If you're looking to just while away time, then this book might be for you. Here's my opinion:
(Heavy sigh)... although I don't want to be the bad egg but this book, well, at certain moments I find that it's alright but then all of a sudden I get punched out of fantasy world into reality. It's too fake. In my opinion, a good fiction is one that is able to make you forget reality, but this one is too abrupt in almost everything. And there's the unnecessary repetition. And Iris, I can understand that she's scared to due to scars left behind by childhood memories and events, I believe her misunderstanding level is always too exaggerated when it comes Kon. It's like there must be a misunderstanding for the story to go on. She's kind of silly.
I can't say I like Kon entirely either but he's alright. I love his attitude and chemistry with his son.
And Max, I like Max the most. He's a cool kid. He so understanding of his mum's situation and smart.
Basically, the novel is passable if you don't mind some sillyness in your day. I won't finish the series, thank you!

Naomi West has the ability to draw me in with her strong, possessive, alpha H, action-packed storyline and spicy spice. She loses me with dumb h who can't make a decision, make poor decisions, and are otherwise repetitive and dumb.
Ends on a cliffhanger, as this is a duet. I will read book 2 and hope the FMC gets better.

Normally I love Naomi West but I had a hard time with this duet. The story I loved, but I just can't get past how much I dislike Iris. Having pride is one thing, but being overzealous in that pride, to the detriment of her son, and thinking she is better than everyone else because of it? No thanks, that doesn't make a character strong which I think is what the author was going with.

Story could have been done in 1 book
I bought both books and I'm not going to read the second one, hot and steamy it's not, wordy yes. The h is a loud mouth with something to prove to her self but still moves in with him and marries him. The second book I can see coming about fighting between the families and him trying to woo her back and getting her wow didn't see that coming.

This is the first in a new duet and this story ends in a cliffhanger, and this is Konstantin and Iris’s story. These two have a brief fling, and the Iris runs from her life to LA, where she just wants to survive, avoid trouble, and raise her son on her own. Kon is feared, ruthless, dangerous, and wealthy, and 10-years later he knocks on Iris’s door desperate to see his son. This is a well written story which is dark, raw, gritty, intense, and action packed, with twists, suspense, danger, intrigue, drama, humor, emotion, and love, which leads to a heartfelt riveting page turner.

I liked this story. It was kind of slow going, but I enjoyed seeing Kon get to know his kid and slowly building a foundation with him. Although Max seemed to take to Kon instantly.
I wanted to like Iris, but I just didn’t. I’m wondering why Kon is even trying at this point. I get that she has a past and that she’s been raising Max by herself for nine years and it’s hard to accept change or be open when you’ve been hurt so much in the past. But Kon has been nothing but spectacular through this whole book and she has not been.
I’m not super picky about things, but the author makes a point that Kon is part of the Russian Mafia, which is the Bratva, but throughout the whole book she calls the head of the Bratva the don and I don’t think that’s the term used.
I feel like the blurb was slightly misleading. It made it sound like there was going to be more suspense or action. I’m hoping something a little more interesting happens in the next book.

Iris meets Kon and they share a special moment. But they walk out of each other’s lives until 10 years later, when Kon realizes Iris has kept their child a secret from them.
There was a lot of tension in the story to say the least! Iris has had to depend on herself for the last 10 years and she’s built up shields like Fort Knox after having to deal with an unloving home life, uncaring relationships, and a tough industry. She wants to protect her son with dignity and pride. However, the reappearance of Kon along with things looking less than positive on her side has her reflecting and feeling frustrated at her situation. Yet she doesn’t break down completely and allows herself time to figure things out. I liked that she was a spitfire with a backbone and while at times it seemed she should accept help where it is given, I felt there was some justification in her wanting to have independence and not easily trusting others. I also liked how in the end she chose for Max and for herself.
Kon as the new Don has expectations placed on him and he learns of a large debt that he is stuck in the middle of. Despite this he wants to follow his heart and do right by his son. He has the patience of a saint when it comes to Iris, not pushing her to do anything and trying to understand why she makes the choices that she does though he isn’t afraid to call her out on things. He also is protective once he meets Max and the chemistry between them is instant. One thing I wondered was that he kept telling Iris that he knew her but there were some things he didn’t communicate with her, even though it may seem she shouldn’t need to know since it was Bratva business but I felt she was the type of person who should know especially when her child could be involved or get caught in aftermath.
I really liked Max, as he shows his parents just what really matters. He is also kind and brave but also owns up to his mistakes. He takes after both Iris and Kon for sure! I also liked Lynette and how she was so understanding. I hope she and Iris can stay as friends. Yerim was definitely Kim’s devil’s advocate, making him think about all his choices. He still stood by him though.
This story definitely took me through a whirlwind, and I can’t wait for Book 2! That cliffhanger!.

BEFORE WE GET STARTED LET ME SAY THIS AND GET IT OUT OF THE WAY I HATE CLIFFHANGERS BUT SO WORTH IT ….NOW THAT FEELS BETTER 😊! This is the first book in the Aminoff Bratva series so buckle up this is a wild ride, dangerous men, alpha personified, possessive, oh, so gorgeous, brooding all the makings of a deliciously story that can be read in an hour or so 😊. There will be suspense, betrayal, arranged marriage, death, darkness, secrets reveled, violence, hope, forgiveness, and maybe love (to be expected in the mafia world). By the time you’ve figured out who is who and what is what, you’re already hooked, and you may as well give up the fight and prepare yourself for an all-nighter!

Kon sexy as all get out bratva, possessive, arrogant, loves family will die to keep them safe and longs to find the girl he met ten years ago she has captured is waking thoughts, his dreams and yet just one night with her and he can’t seem to find her. Iris intelligent, so very strong, remembers the man who left her with an unexpected gift their son ten years ago. Fast forward to today Kon has found the girl of his dreams demanding the truth, wanting to know his son and she is just as feisty as he remembers if not more very protective of her boy which only makes her more attractive to him. The attraction is just as strong as it was ten years ago if not stronger and the magnetic pull between them can no longer be ignored so his demands of marriage right now doesn’t go over well considering she has raised her son alone for ten years now and doesn’t’ need him coming in telling or demanding her will she agree for her son, will he make a great father, can he heal her brokenness, will the war touch them or will he come out on top oh my goodness so many questions and we have to wait ☹ me don’t like it!.

This story ends on cliffhanger so be prepared and even though I'm not a fan of cliffhangers, this book is so worth it. It is written fantasticaly, fast paced, gritty and completely exasperating at times, their story will capture your attention and you're in it for the long haul.
Kon and Iris had one unforgettable night 10 years ago and after that they went their separate ways. After a decade with no way of finding Iris, Kon finally gets a lead about her and he finds out where she is. In doing that he finds more than he bargains for but he's definitely met his match in her. Iris is a broken, tough, independent woman with walls built up so high Kon may never break them down.
This book was so enthralling and kept me on the edge. The relationship between Konstantin and Iris makes for a really fascinating read.

I really enjoyed this book. It’s well written and entertaining. You know things are going to go south, but you’re not sure about specifics. Iris has a lot in her life that I’m sure we will learn about in the next installment. That cliffy though… 💔 Can’t wait to see how things go down next.

Wow, what a start to this duet. I was totally hooked from beginning to end. Iris left home to go to LA and pursue a career in modeling. At 18, She is a strong, independent and speaks her mind. She meets Kon at a party her agent set up to introduce her to contacts in the modeling business. When she voices her opinion, her agent manhandles her and Kon comes to her rescue. He invites her to his room and they end up having sex. As she leaves the room, she turns to him as if expecting him to ask her to stay, he wanted to but doesn’t say anything. Ten yrs later, he discovers his father made an arranged marriage for him because of a debt he owes the Kuzmin Bratva. He has no interest in marrying the girl. He’s angry with his father and is determined to break the contract. The he sees a TV show and the guest is none other that Iris Keller, the girl he hasn’t forgotten. When she declares there is only one man in her life, it’s her son Max. Kon realizes he has a son and he is determined to find Iris and meet his son. Very intriguing and captivating storyline. I enjoyed both of the characters and felt connected to them. Really looking forward to the 2nd book in this duet.

This is part one of a two book series and yes it does end in a cliffhanger! But I loved this first book its beautifully written and flows seamlessly. Iris has always been a strong willed woman with high morals, even when she ran away from home at18 following her hopes to become a model she stayed strong and determined. She meets Kon ( Kontantin)( part of a Bratva ,in-line to become Don) at a modelling event, they have one wild night together which consequently will change the future of both their lives.
10 years later Kon sees Iris on TV where she happens to mention she has a nine year old son Max, Kon is shocked as he had never forgotten their one night together, but now with the mention of a boy, could he be the father?? And if he is what is Kon prepared to do about it? Kon is hiding a secret that could alter the course of things!! Iris won’t be easy to win over and share her son can Kon with his good looks and persuasive charms gain her trust and let him be part of her family??? Just when you see a happy ending coming it all falls apart, will Kon get his HEA with Iris and Max, book two should hold all the answers!!

Konstantin Aminoff is man not to be denied anything and when he discovered the one woman who has haunted his dreams for ten years has just announced she has a nine-year-old son. A son she has kept from him all this time, it’s time to find about his son and why she never told him about Max, his son. Kon and Iris Keller shared one night, a few hours that has change their lives forever. I love Iris she’s a strong, independent woman, she’s determined to give her son the best life she can provide. She’s a wounded soul who’s afraid to trust anyone, she’s been betrayed more than one, especially in the past. I love it when Kon so patient with Max and Iris, she defiantly stands up to him, she wants to prove they do not need or want anything from Kon or his Bravata world. Kon and Iris have a connection, chemistry and passion neither can deny nor forget. A captivating story I loved I can’t wait for the conclusion in Caged Thorn! Tbh I don't write reviews. The book was ok. I felt as if the entire plot revolved around the FMC being stubborn and saying no to the MMC who was offering help when she actually really needed it. The FMC felt really prideful and in some ways stupid to me. At first, it was ok but 95% of the book was like that and then in the end after some sex with the MMC she suddenly accepts him when he asks to marry her. The ending felt way too rushed.
I like the MMC a lot as compared to the FMC because he was quite level-headed and not stubborn. He was very cool and calm.
I'm not saying stubbornness is bad, its just the FMC's situational stubbornness was really annoying and that refusing help which was basically the whole plot.
The book was however interesting enough that I did finish it save for the last chapter which I'm sure has a cliffhanger. (I don't know about that but most books do) The book although is similar to most mafia secret-baby books, it still was interesting enough.
**No offense to anyone. This is just my take on this book.

Had promise but ended up disappointing. 1) I start out liking the heroine but by the half way point I find her truly annoying. She is so stubborn that she ends up becoming a contradiction. She works so hard to provide for her son but when help is offered she won’t accept it. 2) the author kept referring to the Russian mafia leaders as “don”. I’m pretty sure the term “don” is for the Italian mafia. I believe the Russian mafia uses “pakhan” for their leaders. 3) she’s constantly referring to her horrible past but once we learn about her past it was a let down. There wasn’t any abuse or crime. Basically, her parents were neglectful. A lot of people have neglectful parents but don’t let it control their lives. 4) the story drags. All you need to do is read the first and last 25% and you will know everything relevant. 5) The hero is mostly sweet to the heroine. I like the mafia men to be domineering and assholish.

Overall this was a good read, it was engaging and entertaining. However, the FMC was a frustrating, independent, stubborn woman, annoyingly and overly so.
I loved the MMC he was not a typical overbearing Bratva boss with a sensitive side. Loved the interaction between him and Max.
The storyline has some interesting twists and this does end on a cliffhanger for Book 2 of this two book series. The cliffhanger ends at a nice point and everything in this book is closed out before it ends.
I’m not rushing to read Book 2 and not sure if I will, the FMC was that annoying to me.
Editing was frustrating in the sense that it needs good proofreading and it would have been great! There were a few sentences I’m not sure what was meant to be said.

Carino, peccato soltanto la ripetitività della seconda metà del romanzo e l’assenza di azione - credo, questa, dovuta alla volontà dell’autrice di dividere la loro storia in due libri. Molte delle circostanze che sarebbero potute essere interessanti se sviluppate vengono completamente ignorate e non colte; il carattere di Iris appare spesso più ottuso che indipendente (come, invece, la si vuole descrivere) e la conclusione del libro appare affrettata, soprattutto alla luce della reticenza di Iris verso la loro relazione (elemento che caratterizza completamente il libro e che quindi stona con la scelta improvvisa del matrimonio).
Leggerò comunque il secondo nella speranza di trovare l’azione che qui manca :)
